Sofia’s Memories I

1086 Words
As expected, Doctor Melendez keeps us company until I get released. She’s eying Amy after she heard that she will be my personal assistant from now on. Rickard left to talk to my other doctors and get all the necessary medications I’ll be needing at home. My father called me that he will visit me in the house if he got time. He’s living in the country for three days for a business trip. I guess being Rickard Lee’s father-in-law really helps his company. Sofia’s memories are slowly playing in my head. I now know what happened when Rickard told me that I’m the one who ask for help in exchange for his grandfather’s wish. ********************************* *Sofia’s memories of that day* “What will happen to us now?” Monica shouted. We are all in my father’s office after hearing the news that we are going bankrupt. After knowing that my father lost the company’s money because of his addiction to gambling, our investors are starting to pull out their money. “You should have seen this coming Mom. You know that dad is addicted to gambling. I told you he need to be treated before but you ignored me.” Mylene said. I stayed quiet and just stares at them. I don’t want to get involved because I know that my opinion doesn’t matter. I hold my father’s hand to give him comfort. I can see that he regrets his actions. “If only we can get the Lee’s Corporation to invest in us, our investors might consider staying. You know the power of that company.” My father said. I know Rickard since childhood. Out fathers are friends before. When his father died, he manages all of their business and it became more successful. “Then why don’t we call him? You too knows each other for a long time and his father is your friend.” Monica suggested. “Good luck with that Mom, you know how picky that Rickard is. The only person he’s talking to here is Sofia.” Mylene said. Yes, Rickard is talking to me before, but when he becomes the CEO of his dad's company, he became distant and hard to reach. Ricky. I said to myself. “Why don’t Sofia’s call him. They are friends after all.” Monica said. “Don’t use Sofia, Monica. My daughter doesn’t know how business works.” “Use? Why not? She’s been acting all princess-like, staying in the house and doing whatever arts she calls it. It’s time for her to help the family business. She’s been cowering like that and hiding your back because you treat her so precious.” Monica said. “I-I will t-try to call him,” I said. “It’s not necessary darling. Daddy will call him, okay.” “B-But I want to help.” “You hear that? Let her help. It will be nice if Rickard marries her, by that, there will be a lot of investors will be interested in our company again because we have Lee’s name with us.” Monica. “I said to stop using my daughter, Monica. She’s still young and she wants to pursue her artistic skills.” “D*mn that skills. It will not help the business. We’re just wasting more money on her expensive private teacher. Let her call the Lee’s and ask for help.” “Monica, watch your mouth,” Father shouted. I pulled his hand and stares into his eyes. Stop it, Dad. I tried to send that message to him. “I will try to help. Rickard will be in the exhibit later of his funded organization for artists in Golden City. I will try to approach him and tell him about investing in our company.” “See, she can help if you let her be. Stop treating her like a princess, Edward. Mylene is working hard in the company. It’s time for your Eldest child to work too.” Monica said. Mylene is two years younger than me. My mother didn’t know that my father had been lying to her for almost seven years. Monica was my mother’s friend but she lied to her and secretly had an affair with my dad. I don’t know if my mother knows about it before she died that Monica’s daughter is my father's illegitimate daughter. I just found out after a year of mom’s death. He brought Monica home with her daughter and told me that they will be living with us and becoming my mother-in-law. At that moment, I told myself that love is not true. Love is a lie. Love doesn’t exist. It’s just an illusion that we believe in. After that, my life changes. She treated me like I don’t matter. Her daughter, my stepsister Mylene always bullied me and always take what’s mine. She took my necklace that my mother’s gifted to me when I was seven. Thankfully, Rickard helps me to get it back after seeing me crying in the backyard of our house. It’s Mylene’s birthday at that time and Monica throws her a big party. She doesn’t bother to give me one but her daughter always got what she want. Luckily, my dad knows what to do. He let one of his assistants manage to plan my birthday party every year. I want to get mad at my father but when I see how he cares for me, all those hurtful thoughts melt away. He is still my dad after all. Mother will surely forgive him if she’s alive. She might accept Monica’s daughter as her own child. That’s how great a person she is. Mother help me. Give me the strength to talk to Rickard. Though I know that he stills nice to me, I don’t want him to feel burdened because of his father’s problem. He’s a good friend of mine. “I’ll be going now dad, I need to be in the exhibit earlier to help the artist with their artworks.” “Are you going to show your work too?” Dad asked. “I-I don’t know. I’m not as good as them yet.” “I’ve seen your work darling. It’s wonderful. Let them see at least one of them.” Dad said encouraging me. “I’ll think about it. Bye.” I said before kissing his forehead and waving goodbye to my stepmother and step-sister. Maybe I can put at least one. I hope someone buys it.
