Brielle finally had everything...until she didn't. Everything that she'd worked so hard to build for herself came crashing down right before her eyes. She never wanted to be an Alpha, but despite everything, she ended up as just that. Navigating her new life comes with challenge after challenge, and the loneliness she feels slowly starts to ebb away at the walls that she built around her heart....as does a certain handsome shadow. Two broken souls find solace in one another, but can they fight through their own insecurities and open their hearts to the bond or will they let the ghosts of their past continue to hold them back?

PROLOGUE
PROLOGUE I'm walking through a long corridor with doors on every side. The lighting above my head is dim, though it feels blinding in this darkness. I look down, seeing myself in a hospital gown, confusion settles in. Where am I? I forced myself forward, stopping at the first door on the left. Inside, there was a large screen. I peered through the window, startled when it began playing. Nico found me on the sidewalk as I was walking to the grocery store. The skies were dreary and it was a bitter cold day, but I followed Nico dutifully, walking into the forest. I remember thinking that he might be a murderer, and I giggled, the sound echoing through the empty corridor. We shifted, running around and playing in the snow. Nico made me feel so....free. I continued to the next door, and it was Sam and I on our first date. Sitting out in the clear igloo by the water. I looked so nervous and slightly uncomfortable, but Sam was smiling at me like being in my presence was everything he wanted. We left, walking by the water, before the two of us slipped and fell, laughing until our stomachs hurt. Tears pricked my eyes realizing that my past was playing in front of me. I walked a few doors down, seeing myself running through the forest....from Brody.....goddess what a twist that was. I turned around, slicing Nico across his chest, his eyes widened as he looked down at the gaping wound. My hands went to my mouth staring at what I had done. I had just realized that I hurt the man I loved. Closing my eyes and wincing, I couldn't watch another moment. Moving on, I walked a few more doors down, and I was watching us cuddling in bed. We had made it to Canada and our necks bared the marks of each other. That moment was the happiest I think I've ever been in my life. Nico and Sam were peacefully sleeping while I was wrapped in their arms, running my fingers along their skin just to feel the sparks. The pit of my stomach filled with dread as I continued forward.....The next door was the Mate Ball. The night that sealed my fate. I was standing at the bar, making out with Nico like we were the only two people in that room. I could almost smell his sweet scent as I stood here, watching the memory play out. Alpha Xavier was a few chairs down, beginning his speech to spark anger within Nico. I pushed forward, the dread slowly spreading throughout my body. There was a larger door at the end of the hallway. Through the window, I could see red light illuminating from inside. I knew what was behind that door, but I couldn't stop myself from looking. This door, I opened, allowing the red light to blind me as I walked inside. My head instantly began to throb at my temples and my eyes squinted, trying to focus on the screen. I was in the middle of the field, screaming. There was blood everywhere. My body was painted red. Everything was red. I was holding onto Sam's lifeless body, tears flowing freely as I just screamed why over....and over again. I ripped the knife out of him, the wound bubbled with blood. I held my hands over his chest, praying to the goddess, anyone, please help me. His eyes were still opened and lifeless, and despite knowing that he was gone, I refused to accept it. Turning towards Nico's body, I rushed over, vomiting onto the ground next to him. His head was nearly removed from his body from the force that Alpha Xavier ripped his throat out. I punched the ground over and over again. Screaming until my lungs hurt. My jaw tightened as I turned my attention to Xavier's body. The gaping hole in his chest showing the evidence of what I had done. I straddled his body, landing blow after blow, punching his face as his head bobbed back and forward. ALPHA...... "ALPHA" someone screamed. I could faintly feel arms on me as I thrashed wildly, my arms swinging. "Grab the sedatives, she's going to hurt herself and her pups," the voice yelled. My eyes were flooded with bright, florescent lighting as I awoke. It was just a nightmare. But so is my life now.
