HER PAST IS A MYSTERY

Theo’s P.O.V.

I was in my office working on the project we were going to start in two days. Since Maggi was admitted in hospital due to her anxiety attack 2 days ago, I didn’t have any clue on the financial issues. I had called Marcus with all details. I was massaging my forehead as I was feeling headache.

Someone knocked on the door and I gave the permission. Marcus came inside and closed the door.

“Good Afternoon, Theo”, he greeted me and I greeted him back. I signaled him to sit on the chair across my table.

“How is Maggi now?” he asked me.

“She is fine and mom is with her taking care of her or… you can say spoiling her”, I winked at him with a smile and he laughed a little.

“I know Christine. She is an amazing mother and knows very well how to spoil her children”, he said to me and I gave him annoying look. I am not a spoiled brat.

“I am not talking about you, Theo. You are very much sincere. I hope that all her care doesn’t affect Maggi too”, he chuckled and I passed a smile again. I hoped so too.

That day, when I took Maggi to the hospital, the emergency resident immediately admitted her as her anxiety has taken the toll over her mind. Her pulse was dangerously low and she was not breathing properly. She woke up almost after 10 hrs in the night. Meanwhile, my parents came to the hospital. I was surprised first about their concern for her but then brushed that thought off. She was daughter of their friend and her parents already died. So, they were like second parents to her.

My mom took the responsibility of taking care of her and shooed me from her room. Aiden came later and told me what had happened back there with him. I needed to do something to teach that b*****d a lesson. So, I instructed Aiden to make the arrangements and leak the information about their company declared by us as defaulter.

At the end of the day, it was all over the media about how an aspiring company is going to be bankrupt soon as they don’t have funds to clear their debts and is declared as defaulters by one of their associated company.

I watched the news on my tablet and scoffed when I heard his statement that it was nothing but just fake news. I didn’t have any interest in his statement. The legal department had already filed a case against them.

“Theo”, I heard my name calling and came out of my trance.

“I am sorry. I zoned out a bit”, I apologized and then regain my composure.

“As Maggi is not in good health to come office soon, can anyone tell me the status of finances that I assigned Maggi to arrange for our next project?” I asked him and he gave me a questioning look.

“Didn’t she tell you that she already had arranged the funds?” he asked me and I looked at him in surprise.

Suddenly, I remembered that she did tell me before I requested her to accompany me in that s**t hole meeting and also she stated in the meeting that we already has given the clearance for the initial stage during the meeting. I rolled my eyes internally on my own self.

“Yeah… she told me before but she didn’t tell me how did she do this?” I tried to change the topic.

“She talked with some of our share-holders and one of them invested the amount we need.  The money is already transferred in out account and I have given the clearance to the first phase of the project”, he told me and I nodded my head a little. I was a little embarrassed that I forgot an important information. She was really amazing. I was also a share-holder and I could do this by my own.

“The project will start on the time and after some time, we can request for the more funds to the company. In next week, we will get our payments from Casper’s as they promised and also got the mail from Justin’s that they will make the rest p*****t within 2 weeks as we discussed with them earlier. So, we will have sufficient funds by the end of this month”, he paused and gave the file to me.

“Also, we will get the r****d of our security deposits that we deposit for the 2 projects, we lost the big. So, for the time being, there is no financial issue”, he gave me a smile and I gave him a curt nod.

I opened the file and looked over the figures. She had done her job well. The amount invested by that share-holder was more than we need. His investment had also increased the price of our shares in the market. So, luckily we were also getting funds from there.

“I must say that she knows her job well”, I praised her a little while going through the file.

“I wondered Theo, why did you take her with you in that meeting?” Marcus asked me and I knew that I had to answer him. Maggi was like a daughter for him and also he was her superior.

“3 days ago, Andrew came to my office requesting the transfer of Maggi back into his department. I asked him and he proposed me to take her with me for that meeting so that I could see by myself her interpersonal skills and conversation skills according the time. He followed his advice and I can say that he was right about her. But …. (I sighed)…. We didn’t know that that asshole would react like that”, I made a disgust face.

“He was indeed right about her, Theo. But none of you knew about her anxiety problem. She was suffering from anxiety for more than 5 years. She takes the medicine when she has attack. The medicine is always with her in her clutch. I know because, 2 years ago, someone shouted at her during an in house meeting and she got the attack. Your father fired that person instantly but that day I came to know because I was the one who found her almost fainted near the girls washroom”, he exhaled sharply and I felt a pain in my chest.

“She is very good in her skills but her only problem is…. She can’t bear anyone shouting or yelling at her. I am sure that something has happened with her in past that led her to this state. So….. I just wanted to inform you that be aware in future if you take her again in any meeting”, he said to me and I understood his concern. He had witnessed her condition recently and now knew that I have to take care of her more in the future.

“Thank you Marcus for trusting me with this. I assure you that I will try my level best to keep this in mind”, I gave him an assuring smile and he asked me his leave.

He was about to leave when I called him again. "Marcus", he looked back at me and I told him that I suddenly remembered from that meeting, "Maggi mentioned a traitor in our company who is selling our confidential information out. Please look into this".

He was shocked first but then his face turned cold. He nodded silently and left the room. He knew what he has to do.

I leaned back on my chair and looked towards the ceiling. What she had gone through in her past was a mystery. I was curious now to know her past but how??? That was the question. No one except my parents knew anything about her past.

I still remembered how much I was scared when she fainted in my arms. My heart almost stopped beating for some seconds. She was looking so fragile and vulnerable at that time. I was afraid of losing her. We didn’t have any relation other than this professional relation. Still, I was in pain. I wanted to see her. I decided and stood up from my seat and headed towards the elevator.
