Or so was the plan. When she found out that her class had been moved for the next day and her precious time taken by an incredibly stupid movie a Japanese professor was presenting, Maia’s mood went down by a notch. She wasn’t just being pouty, her pettiness and sarcasm jumped to the highest level as she threw the insults in her head towards the speaking form of wrinkles. She had wanted to go home after her previous class, considering that the one that was moved didn’t really require her presence. But when the professor announced that special points will be given to those who come to the lecture and that it will be counted in the finals, she had no choice but to drag herself to the auditorium. Ridiculous.Irritating.
Unplanned occasions were something that had absolutely annoyed her. Something like this was not a part of her daily routine and to have to change it for this made her turn into a small, pouty mess. Not even Sky or Lina could cheer her up. After the failed attempts to bring back the gentle smile to Maia’s face, they completely gave up and took their own roles in the class. Sky was napping, her head on the table, and Lina was reading a book she had supposedly gotten for her birthday last year.
How boring.
She wished some form of entertainment would at least seize her attention. But even there she wasn’t in luck for the first forty-five minutes.
A low sound of a bump of someone’s bottom could be heard from her left side. Her seat and the table slightly shook, making Sky let out a soft grumble in her sleep. The person, who was obviously ten times heavier than her, or maybe even her and Sky together, kept squirming in their seat, trying to make themselves comfortable. She almost turned her head with a snap in order to curse out their choice of place.
Her eyes and peripheral view caught the long legs and the strong hand that cupped one of the culprit’s knees. She blinked, fazed and slightly frightened to ask them to cease their consistent fumbling.Slumping back in the seat, her shoulder bumped into the other’s and the action she was holding back from executing, took place. She moved her head to the side, eyes rising immediately to catch the man’s persistent gaze.
She immediately froze in her chair.
Her breathing stopped and all her senses turned into a hazy mess that prevented her from snapping out of her shock.
The God had taken his respectful seat next to her.
It was as if a million of sparks erupted in her skin as their shoulders touched, his eyes bore into hers and the sly, fake smile adorned his gorgeous face.
“Pardon me. I’m a little too big for these chairs.”
His eyebrow arched only slightly, inquiring her baffled look and the shock in her expression. It was the first time her ears had picked up on his deep, velvety voice, hushed because of the time he had spoken in. It was masculine, sending tiny needless across the length of her spine and right around to her belly. She blinked a few times, chasing away the astonishment and shaking her head as if to cover the sudden rosy blush that spread across her cheeks.
“It’s no problem.”
She replied with a tight smile and turned her attention back to the Japanese professor. Rather, she simply needed an object to observe in order to not give away her shyness and the absurd feeling of attractiveness she felt for the man. Her insides had already completely turned into a puddle of mush, legs almost feeling nonexistent under the pressure of his unwavering stare. She was positive that if he didn’t stop the abuse with his dreamy eyes, she would be tempted to look at him again and would probably pass out from the heat that rushed straight to her head.
He shifted again, gently pressing his muscle against her shoulder as he changed his position. She could only lean to the other side, towards the back of her sleeping friend and away from the tingling sensation the simple touch gave her.
“This lecture isn’t even worth the time. Do professors nowadays propagate unimportant and unqualified knowledge?”
He spoke again, giving her no choice but to dart her eyes back to his form. His mischievous irises were staring in the direction hers had before, but the comment he had made sat right with her previous anger and pettiness.
“Ah…that’s true. They changed the whole schedule because of it.”
“Really now? How idiotic. At least the professor could give a better speech.”
He then stared back into her green orbs, letting the charming smile possess his lips once more. It seemed as though he wasn’t intending on letting her have her peace during the remaining time in the auditorium, requesting from her to humor him. She only nodded, her throat clogged up with the nervousness and fervid feeling she was having in her gut.Attempting to turn away and calm herself, the man chose to speak once more, leisurely angling his body so that he was giving his full attention to her.
What the f**k is happening.
Her mind was already swimming in the pool of frantic nerves that set aflame her whole body. Anxiety.
“You know, I find it quite rude when someone simply disregards a greeting and walks away. Even though they were so adorably staring at me.”
Get the f**k out.
She had absolutely not expected for his direct and honest opinion of their previous encounter, positive that he had forgotten her pathetic existence. Her mouth curled in an awkward smile and she lowered her gaze, her cheeks about to fall off from the embarrassment she was feeling.
Somebody prepare me a grave already.
“I was not…feeling too well.”
“Hmm, so it seemed. But you were definitely staring shamelessly.”
“Well, who wouldn’t…”
She rasped in a hushed tone and brought her hand up to cover her face. The abrupt blurt of her words had sent the God into a slight surprising shock. He chuckled, leaning back and letting her finally inhale a portion of semi clear, yet heated air into her lungs.
“Indeed. I still deserve an apology for the rudeness.”
“I didn’t mean to be rude, I’m sorry.”
Maia was flabbergasted at the level of calmness her voice expressed, her jittery tone covered by the whisper she had to give out. She quickly wanted to close the case and cut the conversation, but the luck she had yesterday completely flew out the window the moment she opened her eyes in the morning. It was as if the odds were playing in favor of this teasing Adonis-like man.
When there was no reply, Maia wondered if he had actually heard her. She didn’t want to risk sneaking a glance at his figure, the potential danger of her mind getting caught in the games his eyes liked to play on her. But the silence and the nerve-racking insistence of his sole presence had her palms sweating and her whole body jittering with prickling sensation. She was feeling lightheaded and her eyes drooped each time another wave of heat rushed to her head. How much longer could she hold herself, she had no idea, but the sole thought of passing out and shaming herself in front of prince charming scared her to no end. Eventually, she shifted her gaze to him, earning herself a teasing tilt of his head.
“I didn’t hear that.”
Sure you didn’t.
“I said I was sorry.”
Purposely and to play with her nerves further,he leaned in closer to her, lending her his ear. She flushed completely, seeing as their proximity was awfully getting uncomfortable.
“Hm? What was that?”
She felt her hands twitch, a sign that her muscles were contracting and her body was slowly falling asleep. The action had caused panic to rise in her heart, which was beating harshly against her ribcage, her breathing to be cut off and her voice to stutter.
“I-I’m sorry.”
But she couldn’t risk exposing herself. She held onto the little consciousness she had left and spoke into his ear, breath brushing across his cheek and neck and the soft waft of strawberries entering his nostrils.
“Apology accepted.”
He let out a breathy chuckle and slumped back in his seat. Her vision instantly cleared and she managed to snuggle away from him a bit further. She breathed slowly, turning her red, cherry face away from his view and fighting her heart’s pitter-patter dance in her chest.
The sensation he brought with him was absolutely enslaving. She would usually feel this type of anxiety when she had to socialize with unknown people, but the intensity he gave her sent her body and mind ablaze with panic. He was not only smart and handsome, with a pretty face and gleaming, blue-gray eyes. The dominance while he spoke to her, that he purposely expressed, knocked her off her feet. Even though his voice was in alight hushed tone, it still radiated absolute masculinity, giving her ears a pleasure no one could possibly explain.
Is he from some fantasy world?
She wondered, cursing in her head for being in a total disarray after exchanging a few stares and words with a stranger.Although, if you add up all the previous facts, any girl would have her panties sliding down her legs. Nevertheless, after he had his fair share of teasing and was pleased with the outcome, the God had reserved himself to only staring and occasionally squirming in the uncomfortable chair. They only had a couple of minutes to go, but Maia swore that every second that passed stretched itself to last longer than necessary. Sky was still nodding off and Lina was oblivious to the fact that the guy she was amazed with was sitting right next to Maia. The wrinkly professor was boring everybody to death and her body was slowly turning into a sack of bricks that would be too hard to pick up.
She needed to get away from the God-like creature that sat next to her, run from his heated gaze and his teasing words, annoying squirms and intense presence. Right about now, a grave that she had planned to dig for herself would be great. The experience was embarrassing and a very harsh blow to her already upset mind.
Maia would need a lot to recover from this.
But when they announced the end of the lesson, everybody was standing up in a hurry. Sky jumped at the noises and quickly wiped her drool off her mouth, while Lina fumbled with her book. The two turned to Maia, only to choke on the very air they breathed. The girl was obviously looking like death had gazed upon her and the handsome guy they had seen yesterday was shamelessly eating her up with his eyes. Maia successfully shifted her own to Sky and the tall, raven haired girl understood the silent plead for help. She bent down to speak in her ear.
“Come on, let’s go.”
“My legs are too heavy. I can’t move.”
“What-?”
She shook her head, hoping the girl would just help her with a gentle lift to stand up. It was one of the consequences that her anxiety gave her. It would tire her out and later she felt immobile, as if somebody had rid her of her lower half. Luckily, Sky had slugged Maia’s arm over her shoulders in order to lift her up and successfully pulled her to her feet.
In that second the godlike man stood up and leaned over Maia’s shoulder.
“Thank you for the nice talk.”
His breath fanned over her neck and she felt a jolt run straight through her knees and stomach. She turned in shock, but he was already leaving down the stairs and towards the exit.
“Something wrong?”
Sky muttered. She had obviously not heard nor seen the male’s actions, which Maia was grateful for.
“Nothing, let’s just go.”
She husked, letting go of the tall girl and walking on her own. Her eyes, though, caught the baffled expression on Lina’s face. The girl immediately snapped out of it, skipping down to them and asking what the hell had just happened. Maia explained, telling the full, ridiculous story of the little conversation she had shared with the guy, only to get cheerful laughter from the two. They teased her and ventured on and out of the auditorium, leading her away from the air of unnerving occurrence.
But she still could not shake off the ere feeling that unimaginably, gorgeous guy was giving her.t turned her head with a snap in order to curse out their choice of place.
