Ch 27 - Dinner with The Hansens

1080 Words
It was Saturday afternoon, and Emily was sitting with her mother while they sorted out the property documents. They were preparing for their meeting with the lawyer on Monday and wanted to sort things out beforehand. Her phone rang all of a sudden and she glanced at it quickly, wondering again if it was Oliver’s call. For the past two days, she had been waiting for him to call or come to his senses but he hadn’t. It seemed like it was only her who was eager to talk to him when he didn’t care at all. She felt angry and irritated with him, but yet she couldn’t deny that she wanted to be with him more than anything. But what was the point when he didn’t even bother to send a message to her saying that he missed her or he wanted to talk or anything. “Men are idiots!” Emily muttered to herself and saw Eleanor’s name flashing on the screen. She picked up the call and answered. “Hey Eleanor. How are you?” Emily asked, wondering if Eleanor was still on her honeymoon. “I am good, but what about you? Where are you?” Eleanor asked and Emily chuckled. “I am at home, where I am supposed to be,” she said. “I am back from my honeymoon and want to see you asap. Come to dinner tonight and we will catch up,” Eleanor invited, and Emily’s mouth fell open. “You’re back, finally! Okay, I am coming. How’s your little guy, Noah?” Emily asked. “Come and see for yourself tonight. But he’s adorable and you have no idea how much I was missing him,” Eleanor said with a sigh. “Yeah, I know… Ok then I will see you tonight. Take care till then,’ Emily said. “I will. Byee.” Emily hung up and glanced at her mother who was looking into the papers. “Mom, I have to go to dinner tonight to meet Eleanor. Do you wanna come?” Emily asked but her mother shook her head. “No, I am good. You go, you have been looking forward to meeting her,” her mother assured her with a smile. “Okay, but if you need me for anything, call me,” Emily said and her mother nodded. ~~~~~~~ Emily got ready in a dusty pink dress that complemented her complexion and made her look like she was glowing all over. She styled her blonde hair in loose curls and did light makeup complementing her dress. Taking a selfie in the mirror, Emily stared at her image on the phone screen and nodded in satisfaction. If she was going to face Oliver then she wanted to be prepared for it. She would make him regret not talking to her. She walked out of her room and headed for the main door, after saying goodbye to her mother. She sat inside her car, and drove to the Hansen mansion. She was already getting late and didn’t want to annoy Eleanor by being further late so she drove fast and was at her destination within a few minutes. She went inside the mansion and saw Eleanor waiting for her. Emily grinned seeing her and sprinted to hug her. “I can see why you are late. You look stunning, Emily. What’s going on?” Eleanor asked with a mischievous smirk. Emily turned crimson and smiled shyly. “Oh, I was just in the mood today so I thought why not.” “Uh huh…” Eleanor nodded at her, not believing a word but let it go. “Let’s go, dinner will be served shortly.” “Yeah,” Emily said, following Eleanor inside and saw Ruth and Bernard waiting for her. “Emily, so nice to see you, how have you been?” Ruth asked and Bernard smiled at Emily. “Good evening, Mr & Mrs Hansen. I am doing well. How are you?” “We are good, come sit with us,” Bernard said and Ruth nodded at her. “You look beautiful, Emily,” Ruth noticed. Emily blushed at her remark and wondered if dressing up was a mistake. She wasn’t sure if Oliver was going to be there. After all, she hadn’t seen him until now. “Thank you, Ruth,” Emily replied and sat down at the dining table with them. Rickard soon joined them and the dinner started. “Where’s Oliver? He was going to join us tonight,” Ruth asked her husband Bernard but he shrugged while glancing at Rickard for a clue. Emily stiffened hearing Oliver’s name but tried to pretend that it didn’t affect her. She was happy to hear that he was going to join them and smiled inwardly. “He will be here shortly, I left before him,” Rickard answered. The dinner started and Emily continued to enjoy the delicious dishes while chatting with Eleanor about her honeymoon and the places she visited and the weird people she saw along the trip. They laughed at the funny stories and Rickard also took part in the conversation. “But it sounds like you enjoyed your trip,” Emily questioned both of them and they nodded, smiling at each other. “Yeah, we did. Unforgettable it was,” Eleanor affirmed. It was then they heard someone’s footsteps and grumpy voice, grumbling over work. “What the hell is wrong with people nowadays? He canceled the meeting at the last minute. I am not doing business with them again.” It was Oliver and Emily became stiff hearing his voice. Her heart began to race and she didn’t dare look in his direction. She didn’t want to seem desperate. After all, he was the one who had a stupid argument about a little thing. She continued to eat quietly while Ruth greeted her son, Oliver. “You have to have patience, Oliver,” Bernard said. Oliver threw his coat over the back of the chair and sat in it, not noticing anything unusual. “I have told this to him a thousand times,” Rickard said. “Emily, why don't you talk to him? Oliver was beginning to scowl at his brother, but on the mention of Emily’s name, he frowned in confusion and looked around the table quickly. His gaze found hers and it seemed like time stopped for a moment when their gazes met.
