Protector

"You called?" Gabriel stood at the doorway to our house. A meek smile on his lips as he stared down at me. The discomfort clear on his face, as though he was unsure of how I would react.     I didn't care, he was my childhood friend I've known all my life. I ran to him, jumping into his arms  wrapping my arms around his body. He didn't even take a second to hug me back, pressing me tightly into his body.     "I guess this means you aren't terrified of me" he laughed. I slapped him on the chest pouting. "if you knew all of this then why didn't you tell me?" I asked.     Gabriel was rubbed the back of his neck as he explained "well I was also sworn into secrecy. Your parents found me and my mother when we were banished from the heavens. Mother became a fallen angel when she gave birth to me."     "A what?" I asked. He looked over to my parents asking with his eyes if he should continue. With a slight nod from Zander, Gabriel continued "a fallen angel is an angel that has sinned, in mothers case she fell in conceived a child with a demon and thus gave birth to me. Being half angel and half demon I was also banished from the heavens."     "I don't understand what that would have anything to do with me, or my parents" I stated. He sighed "I guess I'm not very good at getting to the point here. Your parents accepted my mother and I as long as I served as a protector to you. We were introduced when we were 3 years old and I have stayed by your side since then. I have always watched out for your safety."     Does that mean that our friendship has been a lie all this time? Could my parents have really instructed Gabriel to be my friend just to be my protector? If my parents did this does that mean that my feeling for Gabriel are a lie too?     I pulled away from Gabriel and walked into the house, I ran up to my room and closed the door. I don't think I could handle any more today. I slowly crawled back into bed, and pulled the covers over myself.     I started to think back and remember all the moments with Gabriel that I loved and cherished. I wanted so badly to believe that my feelings were real, but with knowing now that I was just a job for him I don't know what to believe any more.     A soft knock came from the door "Stazy? Can I come in" I knew from the nickname it was Gabriel on the other side of the door. I said nothing as I buried myself deeper into the blankets. I could hear the door slowly opening as Gabirel stepped inside.     "Stazy I know you're awake. Talk to me" He pleaded with me. I tried so hard to ignore him, but he had other plans. The bed dipped and I was forced to roll over to face him. "Stazy this doesn't change our friendship, just because I was to protect you does not mean that we were never friends." He gave me a stern look.     Gabriel really was my best friend that knew me better than I even knew myself. I snuggled into his lap and started crying, the only place that I truly felt comfortable right now. Gabriel didn't say another word, just stroked my hair as my tears soaked through his shirt.     At some point I fell asleep, only to be woken up by Gabriels strong arms lifting me up. He seemed so serious, and angry? Why was he making such a face?     That's when I heard the yelling coming from down stairs. I tried to escape Gabriels hold but he only gripped onto me tighter. I wanted to know what was wrong.     Suddenly Zander yelled shaking the whole house "You were supposed to be under house arrest. Who let you out?" Mom then burst into the room, nodded to Gabriel and were we suddenly crashing through my bedroom window.     I screamed as I noticed we were now flying above the trees; flying away from whoever was now in my home. I held onto Gabriel like my life depended on it, and frankly it seemed like it did. After what seemed like hours, but was probably only a few minutes I built up the courage to ask "What's happening?"     Gabriel said nothing, only started to go faster, every second he seemed to tighten his grip on me. I placed a hand on his beating chest and screamed for him to stop. He slowed and stared down at me, the anger evident on his features.     "We are going to a place that is  sacred, no demons can go there. I will take you to the borders and you will continue on foot." That was the only explanation he was going to give? I don't think so.     "Either you tell me what's happening or I won't go where you are taking me to." We landed quickly Gabriel dropping me to the ground with no warning. "Um ow?!" I exclaimed. Gabriel pulled me up roughly by the arm and pushed me toward a tree.     It was miles high with beautiful white blossoms, the trunk appeared twisted and a small opening could be seen at the base. "Go down that hole and you will arrive at the sacred waters, now go!" I whirled around to face him.     "Tell me what is happening! Why are we here? What about my mom?" I was screaming at him, desperate to  understand what everyone was so worked up about. Gabriel pushed me toward the tree once again "I can't go with you I will be expelled as soon as I try to enter. Peter has escaped the Devildom and wants to kill you for the throne. I don't have time to explain anything more just go, I will stay behind to protect you like I always have so GO!"     I could hear trees falling off in the distance and there was a dark presence coming our way, I took one last look at Gabriel before starting my decent into the roots of the tree. I tried to look back again but Gabriel was busy fighting someone off and the opening closed in on itself. Leaving me with only one option, to keep walking down this dirt path beneath the massive tree.
