Insult

Insult Dead silence pervaded the dining area of the private room. Kallum did not bother to pay attention to Syr. He fiddled with his quantum chip that is showing the interface of his messages from his irritating cousins and friends. “Uh…elder sister Syr, I heard from mother that you were in some kind of accident?” Axel curiously leaned near to Syr’s direction with a gossipy expression on his face that earned a glare from his twin brother. Why did he have to ask about something like that in their first meeting? Syr slightly jolted in shock at his inquiry. “Yes, I was in an accident due to my cosmic ship malfunctioning. I was in coma for a month before this.” Quinn did not expect for Syr to outright say it like that, and even Kallum’s fingers sliding across the hologram screen twitched at her words. He did not care much about his engagement partner, so the only thing that he knows about her is that she is the eldest miss of the Viscount Draecy family and nothing more. He could not help but ponder their similarity of experiencing an accident in this month alone. “Elder sister Syr was in a coma? Isn’t it a pretty serious case?” Axel could not stop his mouth after getting a sip of information, and even Art perked up his ears to listen. All the information that they know of Syr came from the files that their mother had their subordinates to investigate after deciding to engage her to their third brother. So, these two boys still at their teenager phase felt that they should help their third brother to gather information, other than waiting for their third brother to ask Syr himself, because that would be impossible at Kallum’s current mindset, especially with Kallum not even allowing their cousins and aunt to visit him at their mansion in the midst of his recovery. It was like their third brother closed himself off to the outside world, though he would still converse with them, but it feels distant than what it was before the accident. Syr shook her head and chuckled at the hilarious expression of the twin younger brothers of her fiancée. The transparent expression on their faces gave her the impression that they are the same as their mother, who is frank and honest without sounding offensive. “It is pretty serious. The doctor said that I could not have made it in that month if I did not hold on.” Syr honestly did not want to talk about that month of coma. It was at that time that she transferred into this world, and the original really died at that time too. Feeling the slight depressive mood in the air, Art tugged the corner of his twin brother’s shirt to stop his nosy mouth. Kallum looked up at that time to see Syr’s smiling expression that seems to be hiding something. His fingers hovered above his quantum chip before putting them down on the armchairs of his wheelchair. “By the way Kallum, don’t mind the words in the star network. I hope that you’ll recover soon” Quinn sincerely voiced out his thoughts while looking at Kallum’s silent profile. Axel and Art smiled sadly at that. Kallum raised his gaze and nodded at Quinn. He did not mind the topic being about him, after all it is already disseminated across the whole star network, and so hearing Quinn’s words did not displease him or anything. The atmosphere in the dining area slightly turned milder after a few sentences that allowed the group to sound out each other’s attitudes. Siello is the only one who is still on the side snacking on the dessert that was brought a few minutes ago. “Hmmm…what do you mean elder brother?” Syr’s suddenly raised her doubt that made the rest aside from Siello to look at her in bafflement; Kallum pursed his lips and gave a look to observe her expression that looks sincerely full of doubts. Quinn raised his eyebrows at his little sister. Did she really not know what is being discussed heatedly in the star network? But, before he could ask her, Siello tugged the corner of his shirt with his cheeks tainted in red. “Uh…elder brother, I need to go to the washroom.” His feeble voice melted Syr and Quinn’s hearts. “Oh I know, let’s accompany Siello to the washroom then why don’t we go to the eight floor where the recreation area is? It is full of fun things. There is even a mecha battle simulation for kids.” Axel suddenly stood up from his seat with an excited expression on his face. Art nodded his head with the same excitement written on his face. Siello perked up the moment he heard about the mecha battle simulation. He had always dreamed to be one of those soldiers that could drive a mecha to battle with the void parasites, so his little face brightened up like a blooming rose due to him being so flustered and excited. Quinn and Syr chuckled and agreed to the proposition. Kallum did not object seeing that everyone is in a great mood. So, the six of them, with three young adults, two teenagers and one kid exited the private room after getting informing their parents. Kallum’s wheelchair floated a centimeter above the ground as it smartly exited the door without his control. It is a modified mech by Alric that is planted with an AI branch of the main brain AI of his R&D department. Syr walked behind Kallum with Quinn next to her. Her eyes trained on the ramrod sitting posture of the figure in front of her. She had already noticed his condition the moment she entered the dining area, though she did not ask much to not offend him if he might take her inquiry the wrong way. But, her golden pupils darkened at the thought of what his elder brother Quinn mentioned about the words in the star network. It seems like something is happening to Kallum that she had no idea about, and she’s already itching to check the star network if not for Kallum being next to her. Looking at the broad back of the man that will be her husband in a month, Syr felt countless emotions, but none of them pertains to unwillingness or regret, especially after seeing the flash of coldness in his silver pupils at her elder brother Quinn’s words of comfort. It was only Axel and Art that accompanied Siello to the men’s washroom while the three young adults waited in the lounge area at the side of the wide hall in front of the elevator. The ambiance of the ninth floor is relaxing as there are no unnecessary noises, but it was broken with the loud clacking of heels hitting the floor with a force that even made Kallum to crinkle his brows. He is sitting on his wheelchair next to the sofa where Syr and Quinn are, and the three of them simultaneously turned their heads to the direction of the hallway that leads to the private rooms. The annoying sound of the heels is coming from there, but dining in the ninth floor means that the wearer must be from a powerful background too. Red striking heels first appeared on their vision along with bare legs with thighs barely covered by a fitted red dress that looks so flashy along with thin white arms covered in dangling jade bracelets with a red diamond laced pouch being held in her hand. Syr squeezed her eyes due to seeing too much red, before her gaze landed on the face of the individual, and her mind drew up another image of the despotic young lady that she met in front of the Ace hotel. Syr did not pay attention to that young lady too much, so when she looked back to that small incident; it is only now that she realized that the other was wearing a full pink outfit at that time. Kallum’s silver pupils radiated coldness the moment he saw the face of the newcomer. He remembered Cleo dressing so reservedly at their mansion and he couldn’t help the sneer at the corner of his mouth at her current appearance that is like a different person altogether. ‘It seems that she really worked hard to play innocently for three years.’ Kallum’s gaze did not linger on Cleo for even a minute as he lowered his head to check on the emails from his personal assistant Rio about the current state of the Alraym Industries. But, it seems that Cleo has sharp eyes as she instantly noticed their group of three, especially because of Kallum’s unforgettable looks that was the reason why she was so crazy about him back then, but it’s a pity that Kallum is now a paralyzed man, and it will be a joke for her to continue to be with him. After all, she is a privileged ancestral that is treasured by the civilization while the only good thing about Kallum is his face and wealth that instantly turned useless the moment he became disabled. With her looks and privileged identity, why would she stay with someone that would make her the face of ridicules and taunts from her circle of friends and acquaintances? So, breaking the engagement in Cleo’s eyes is entirely reasonable. Disdain and scorn swarmed in Cleo’s eyes as she saw the wheelchair under Kallum. Unbeknownst to Cleo, Syr quickly caught the emotion in her eyes. Syr felt her own body stiffen at the unpleasant feeling in her heart with the way Cleo is looking down at Kallum. Syr’s eyes narrowed while staring straight at Cleo, and the latter subconsciously shivered as she darted her eyes around while feeling confused.
