Theon
I was enjoying my little drive when I felt my stomach grumbled. I suddenly realized I hadn’t eaten anything today. Glancing at my car’s time, It was only five in the evening, too early for me to go to the bar. I suddenly felt the craving for a burger shack that I usually go to with Ted and Thea.
I was about to pull over on the side to return to the food station where the Diner was located when my phone rang. I answered it via voice command of my car.
“Hey, happy birthday to my favorite brother….” It was my youngest sister Thea.
Her sweet greeting made me smile, “Hey, there bugger, thank you… another favor?” I asked. I knew she wanted something.
“Yes, I just woke up, and I remembered you. I kinda sensed you are out so, would you, could you, buy me food and stop over to my place? I want to see you and give my gift,” Thea sweetly requested.
“Oh, my favorite sister, how lucky are you? I am about to go inside our favorite place and get myself one. Do you want the usual?” I asked, glad she called me at the right time.
“Yayyy!” she screamed in excitement. “I love you! Yes! And milkshake!”
“Okidokie ma’am, in next thirty minutes, your order is about to come,” I smilingly said before hanging up the call.
I parked the car outside, but something strange caught my attention. A lovely older woman was wobbling outside the restaurant. She then opened its door and entered.
I quickly stepped out of my car to check on her, and I surprisingly saw from the outside window that she slumped out cold on the floor while a lady was shaking and checking her pulse.
I kind of understood what happened as I saw the woman shook her head and started doing chest compression. I ran to the nearest emergency kit station and found an AED. I took it as I ran back to the diner.
The woman was giving the old lady some rescue breaths when I kneeled next to her. I noticed a young man looking petrified beside her as some people on their phone watching us.
“This, follow the steps,” I said, giving her the AED. She then looked at me. Her eyebrows were knitted, staring closely at my face.
“Miss!” I loudly called out as she seemed stunned while ogling me.
She quickly took her composure, taking the AED on my hand. She opened it as I unbuttoned the old lady’s shirt. She then patched the AED and pressed the start button.
“Move away!” she said, spreading her arms walloping me on my chest. I didn’t budge because I knew she didn’t mean it.
The old lady jerked, followed by an analyzer saying there was a heartbeat. Not long after, the lady grunt and woke up puzzled. The young man beside us rushed into the old lady,
“Granny!” he said, hugging his grandma. The fear in this young boy’s eyes didn’t escape my eyes. It would have been a joy to save someone else's life.
“What happened?” The old lady looked at us in confusion, but before we could answer, the paramedics rushed in and started checking her. Soon as They saw the AED, they thanked the woman and me. They put the old lady on the gurney and left with the young man.
I noticed the woman next to me looking baffled. She wasn’t just a woman, but I found her a striking one. Her face seemed familiar, as if I had seen her beautiful and stunning appearance.
She was staring at the floor. The shock was painted on her face. I could imagine the adrenaline rush slowly running out of her body.
“Miss?” I mumbled, offering my hand to her.
She then stared at it for a couple of seconds before grabbing it. She was kneeling for a long time. Standing up, I saw her knees buckled as she grabbed my chest to hold herself.
Looking down, I perceived the beautiful lady was inches smaller than my six-foot-three height. Lifting her head up, I met her dark blue eyes glistened in fear.
“You okay?” I asked her worriedly.
“I…I’m okay…That was dope,” she replied, taking off her hold on my chest.
I tittered, trying to stop myself cracking up from her odd remarks.
“You did a great job!” I said, praising her
“Thanks to you!” she replied, moving her eyes away from me.
“Mia! You're a hero! Thank you!” one of the crews at the counter yelled out, startling her.
Mia.
She then turned her head, “That was nothing…I hope Mrs. Griffley would be alright, Tim,” Mia said to the guy named Tim.
“Your food is ready,” Tim said.
“I’ll take it away, Tim,” Mia said, heading to the counter, leaving me amazed.
Tim packed it quickly and gave it to her, “That’s on the house,” he said,
“Thanks, Tim. I got to go and check Jay. They must be worried,” I heard her before dashing away from the diner, not even giving me a glimpse.
I somewhat felt interested in her. Her beauty enthralled me and somehow pushing me to know her more. ‘Mia.’ I chanted her name in my head.
Shrugging my thoughts away, I proceeded to the counter. Business as usual, I ordered Tim my and Thea’s meal.
“That’s on the house, bro. Thank you for helping our Mia,” Tim said, giving me my order. I hesitated, but he was firmed giving it for me for free.
“Thank you,” All I could say.
I left the diner and went straight to Thea’s flat. I rang the bell, and Thea opened the door wide,
“Surprise!!!!!” the people greeted inside. It was only Ted, his wife Selena, Thea, and my three-year-old niece, Christina.
“Wow!” I was shocked to see balloons and decorations inside her flat.
I walked in and hugged Thea tightly.
“I wasn’t expecting this!” I exclaimed to Thea, “So much happened before I came here with this, and now you’ve got so many foods here!” I added, looking at the stuff on her table.
“Well, you know me,” Thea replied, escaping from my tight embrace. “Get off!” she said, giggling,
Ted tapped me on the back as I hugged him, “Well, you know who’s idea is this? Happy birthday! ” he said.
Breaking the hug, “I know, my favorite sister-in-law. Thank you,” I replied as I hugged Selena, carefully dodging her protruding belly, “How are you, my beautiful preggy-in-law?” I asked her, caressing her bulging tummy.
“I’m great, Mr. Casanova, happy birthday,” She kidded, rubbing her belly,
Selena’s answer made me chuckle. That was her pet name to me.
“And how’s my favorite niece!!!” I said, looking down at the blonde hair, blue-eyed little girl. I took and carried her in my arms,
“Uncle Theo! Appy birthday!” Christina greeted me in her baby voice, making us all laughed in her sweetness.
I kissed the sweet girl on her cheeks, “Thank you, my love. You’re getting bigger!” I said, “Are you excited to become a sister?” I asked her, bringing her down,
“Yes!!” she replied, planting her face on her mummy’s tummy.
“She’s so excited, Theon,” Ted said,
“I bet she is,” I told him back.
We spent the next two hours eating and chatting. Mom and dad were on their business trip that was why they weren’t able to join us. I told them what happened earlier at the diner when I was getting the burger.
“Wow! that was dope!” Thea said.
I laughed at her words. Those were the exact words the woman named Mia blurted out. They noticed my reaction and looked at me as if I’d grown two heads.
“I know, that was the same reaction the beautiful woman I was with after the incident,” I explained.
Mia indeed was a beautiful woman, though I noticed something in her eyes I couldn’t put my hands on.
“That was really awesome, Casanova.” Selena teased,
“Indeed,” I agreed.
More chattings and talkings later, I left Thea’s place around eight in the evening. I informed them of the party that the boys prepared for me. They wished me luck as I drove my car away.
Soon as I got in, the bombarding sound of bass and noise in the club welcomed me. I saw Greg right away and headed towards him.
“They’re preparing the room. Let’s wait here!” Greg shouted as the loud noise echoed the newly opened bar of my friend. Fred Polanski.
Fred was a high-end club magnate and entrepreneur. A native from Poland. He was as old as my father and was a good friend of mine.
I nodded as I sat down on the VIP couch, watching the young people and some acquaintances dance and grind on the floor. Greg handed me a whiskey on ice and cheered with me.
“Happy birthday, boss,” he greeted. I clunked my glass with him and gulped.
The alcohol slowly soothed my throat as I continued viewing and gazing around, but then someone caught my eyes. Two women kept walking and dodging their way to the busy people on the floor. The dancefloor’s lights were bright enough to recognize one of them.
Mia.
The same woman I met hours ago at the diner. Since my VIP couch was placed in a high position, I was able to see and follow their track. I noticed the woman in the body con shirt spoke to the bouncer in the hallway where Fred’s office was located.
The bouncer nodded, and two women left. One went behind the bar while Mia sat on the stool bar. They spoke a little before the woman behind the bar gave her a shot.
They tossed their glasses, and both gulped the alcoholic drink. I saw Mia’s face grimace from the taste. She then thanked the lady before spinning her chair as she looked at the people on the dance floor.
There was something in her eyes that I noticed. Sadness. She was looking at the people as she caressed her necklace. She seemed spacing out as her eyes glimmered from the light.
I watched her for a while. Her beauty indeed was enthralling. I never saw any woman with so many mysterious emotions and demeanor.
Mia’s train thoughts were disturbed as I saw the bouncer guy walked towards her and whispered. She then nodded and looked at the woman behind the bar. She smiled sadly at Mia, and I kind of knew there was something wrong.
Mia then followed the guy to the hallway and disappeared.
“You okay, boss?” Greg tapped my back.
“Yes,” I said, “Excuse me.”
I left the couch and went down to follow Mia. A hunch was bugging me to follow her. Soon as I walked in, the hallway bouncer ceased me.
“Mr. Polanski is busy,” he said to me,
“I know, I was with her,” I lied. The bouncer just nodded and let me in. I strolled towards Fred’s office and stopped, and stood in front of his door. Luckily it wasn’t fully closed, and I could hear their conversation.
“How much do you need again?”
“fifty grand, sir….”
“That’s a lot, my love. How would you be able to pay me.”
I could hear the doubt in Fred’s voice.
“I could work for your bar at night, after my work at the studio, I…I just need it for my sister….”
I heard Mia pleaded.
“How much worth is that necklace?”
“A lot, sir, our mom gave this to my sister and me, but I can’t sell this….” Mia said, “It’s the only memory I had of her….”
Silence
“Tell me, are you willing to sell yourself for your sister?”
My eyes gaped. Was Mia selling her body?
“I’ll do anything for her….”
Mia firmly answered without hesitation. Pregnant silence. Then I heard a movement.
“That’s fifty grand, but for a night with someone that I knew, a good friend of mine who might be willing to spend a passionate night with an inexperienced woman.” Fred stated, “You will be my gift to him.” he sounded sarcastic.
No! He can’t do that to her. The woman was in need and desperate.
“I’ll take her!” I said after bursting the door open. Enough that, I pinned my ears back. I decided to take Mia from him. I’d rather have her and pay her more than the amount she needed than be Fred’s gift.
Fred looked at me in disbelief as Mia turned her head. Her dark orbs met with mine.
“No, you can’t. She’s a gift…” Fred smilingly replied
“I can. I’ll double her price!” I said, cutting his word.
Mr. Polanski stood up brusquely, “Theon she’s ….”
“Come with me!” I somberly roared, looking at Mia as my brows knitted, “You choose. Me or that guy?” I asked,
Fred didn’t speak. He was shaking his head, smiling smugly back and forth to Mia and me.
Mia was stunned.
“I’ll pay for your night, double the price,” I once again roared. She looked at my hand extended in front of her.
“I…I’m sorry….” She whispered to Mr. Polanski, who was smirking at us.
“Go on, love,” Fred said before lighting tobacco as Mia held my hand for the second time and dragged her outside. Mia took my offer without second-guessing.
I gripped her hand tight without glancing at her.
“No one can have you, Mia, and you just sold yourself to me,” I told myself as I pulled her towards the club area.
