5 Finding her place.

Mikaela was freaking out. She closed her eyes as she stood next to her bed. She couldn’t be mated to that beast…no it was not possible. Her hand automatically went to the mark on her neck and shoulder. Her hand shook a little and the mark ached when she pressed her fingers into the skin there. No…She shook her head. She couldn’t be. She rejected the thought and quickly got dressed. She made sure to wear something with a high neck so that it hid the mark on her neck. She didn’t need other students looking at it and coming to the same conclusion the other girls did. Once she was done, she went to Rose’s side of the room. She touched her arm to wake her up. Rose looked up at her and smile. “Good let’s go,” she said and then flicked her hand in front of her face. The same glamour she had earlier returned. They walked out of the room, and out of the building. This time there were other girls walking around. And once they passed the three buildings, walking into the main part of the school she saw boys walking around as well. She looked at them in surprised. She thought the school was an all-girls. “Yes, dragon lady likes to keep us separated,” Rose said with a sly smile on her lips as they walked. “Do you have a boyfriend?” Mikaela almost tripped at her question. She resisted the urge to touch the mark. Stop it, she told herself. “No. Mom said I was too young,” she said saying what her mother told her when she talked about finding a boyfriend. “At seventeen!” Rose exclaimed. Mikaela didn’t know how she knew her age, but she thought it was young at as well. She was still so scared of her own shadow. She hasn’t been anywhere besides moving from England to her mother’s pack. She hasn’t ventured out yet. And back in England her father was paranoid half the time, so he didn’t allow her to do anything unless it was with them. She was so sheltered. Until the Alpha King came…Mikaela shook her head as thoughts of him filtered into her mind. Not going to think about him, she told herself. “We’re going to have to do something about that,” Rose said as they walked into a building that was set away from the others. Mikaela looked around the building it was a sterile looking building with the usual long hallways and wooden floors. There was a reception area that had a lone receptionist at the back of the desk. Mikaela didn’t know what she expected. But headmistress did say that they will figure out which classes she must be in, she figured there will be testing stations and beeping machines around. “We are here to see professor Benford,” Rose said to the receptionist. “Take a seat. He will be with you in a minute,” she said going back to whatever she had been doing. Rose and Mikaela sat down. Mikaela looked around her feeling a little nervous. She didn’t know what the professor was going to say. Hopefully he will find out that she was human. He would see that she didn’t belong there. She could go back home to her mother, grandfather and her room that smelled faintly of paint. She left her things there, things that she cherished and they brought her comfort. She didn’t even have her father’s pictures with her. Mikaela felt tears fill her eyes and pushed them away. There was no use crying. That beast of an Alpha King was going to keep her there until he was satisfied with his revenge. He hated him so much, Mikaela’s hands clenched into fists on her thighs as her hatred for the alpha grew within her. How could he do this to her? she asked herself feeling like she was going to bust with rage. But she was interrupted when a door was opened and a man that looked old with greying hair walked out. But there was something off with the picture she saw, because he didn’t move like an old person. “Mikaela?” he asked as he looked directly at her. She shivered as his bright grey eyes stared at her. She felt something swirl inside as if something was peering deep inside her. “Come into my office please. Rose go to class, she will be there soon.  “Yes, professor,” Rose said and walked out of the building leaving her there. Mikaela felt a spike of nervousness. “Come,” the professor said walking back through the door he walked out of. Mikaela followed him. She didn’t have a choice. Her other option was to run away. But where would she go. Maybe it didn’t matter as long as she was away from this place. The professor entered his office, and she walked in. He indicated for her to sit down. And she sat down. “Tell me about your mother,” he said pulling a chair and sitting down. “Ahhh…” Mikaela tried to think about what to say about her mother. Her mother was once happy. She loved life. But now…Mikaela shrugged. “She is the daughter and an alpha.” “She is a werewolf,” the professor prompted with a nod. “Have you ever seen her shift into her wolf.” “No,” Mikaela has never. She knew that she was a werewolf, but they lived like humans…like their father. The professor nodded. “You will have to learn from your teachers then,” the professor said reaching for a paper and writing something down. “But…I don’t…she said I don’t have the werewolf gene. I can’t shift,” Mikaela said with panic in her voice. Couldn’t he smell it? She smelled like nothing. She didn’t have a scent. If she was a werewolf she would have a scent. But she didn’t. Her mother said it was because she didn’t have the gene. She had made peace with the fact that there was nothing special about her.  “What happens during the full moon?” the professor asked. “I become sick,” she said remembering the excruciating pain of her body trying to shift. But it never happens. She just becomes sick as unbearable pain course through her. “It’s because there is someone trying to come out. She’s desperate to come out, and we need to help her along, okay?” the professor said sympathetically. Mikaela nodded. “Okay, take this  and give it to the receptionist. She will take you where you need to be,” he said with a warm smile. Mikaela got up, and took the piece of paper. She walked to the door, walking out of the room. She returned to the reception area, and handed the paper to the receptionist. She looked at it and then stared at Mikaela making her feel like she didn’t belong there. “He put you in this class?” she asked looking at her. She shook her head. Mikaela didn’t know what class it was, but she felt like it wasn’t a good place to be. She bit her bottom lip nervously, and waited.  The receptionist got to her feet. “Come,” she said. Mikaela followed her. They headed to the other side of the school where there were more students walking around. Mikaela could feel their eyes on her. They sniffed the air around her and then frowned when they couldn’t smell anything. “What the hell is she?” “That’s weird she smells like nothing,” they whispered around her. Mikaela bit harder into her bottom lip, tasting blood. She wished the ground would open up and swallow her as they continued to stared at. She faced forward and walked on. They walked into another building and climbed the stairs to the second floor. “Here,” the receptionist said opening the door for her. Mikaela walked inside and stopped in her tracks as everyone in the room turned to look at her. Sweat dotted her skin, and she suddenly didn’t want to step inside that room. She didn’t belong there. “Go in,” she said and left her standing there. The teacher in front walked to her. “Don’t be shy,” she said ushering her inside. Mikaela forced herself to move even though she wanted to run. They stopped in the middle of the class. She fidgeted standing there in front of 20 students. “Would you like to introduce yourself.” Mikaela breathed deep, trying to think of what to say. “I am Mikaela. My grandfather is the alpha of the moonlight pack. I lived in England half of my life. I love to paint.” “That’s great. Let’s welcome our new class member Mikaela,” the teacher said and showed her where to sit. Mikaela walked to the chair and she could feel eyes on her. She looked that way and saw Haile, Bree and Heather looking at her with disgust in their eyes. She looked away quickly feeling her stomach tightening. Damn…she really didn’t want to be in the same class with them. Mikaela closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She could get through this, she told herself. “Hi, I am Ryan,” someone said to her right. She turned and she almost gasped as she saw the most handsome boy she’s ever seen. “Hi,” she croaked and it sounded like she was choking. He laughed staring at her with bright blue eyes that made her think of the sky. Mikaela shook at her head embarrassed. “Yeah, hi,” he said. It was surreal that he was talking to her. “Stupid,” something smacked into the back of her head as those words were whispered above her. Mikaela looked up to see Haile pass to talk to the teacher. She sat still making sure not to look at Ryan. She didn’t want to see what he thought  of Haile calling her stupid. It was really humiliating.
