‘What’s the matter?’ he asked. Mark shook his head. ‘It’s like it doesn’t want me to look at it. I have to really concentrate to see it. If I don’t, it’s like the door is only something in the corner of my eye. My brain registers that it’s there, but it just doesn’t really see it.’ Every word Mark spoke as he stared at the door seemed to take extraordinary effort.
