Buddy called for a break and he and Martha moved to take down the pumpkins that had been shot. Dom stared at them tossing the gourds to the ground, realizing he’d already forgotten which was his. Buddy and Martha moved the remaining pumpkins, about half of them, closer together in a shorter row now, and the noise of the mingling drinkers grew. Police Chief Gordon approached slowly from the shadows and moved to stand nearly in front of them. Dom noticed that Kiko shot him a worried look, but Dom wasn’t drunk enough that he’d say anything stupid to the man, even if he did think Gordon wouldn’t remember it. “You mind telling me what that was all about…” began the police chief, indicating over by Martha with a shoulder and pulling out his notepad.
