17. The Will For Emma?

1055 Words
Emma POV "What are you doing here?" I asked so politely. I glanced behind me, hoping Nathan wouldn't show up at this moment. Robert's arrival was something I never expected. "Do you think you can just disappear on me after you stole my grandfather's will? Do you think I'd let you take the inheritance for me, Emma?" I had no idea what Robert had said. Will? Inheritance? Oh, come on. I've already suffered through being married to a toxic man like Robert. Why would I have to deal with him again? I may be poor, but I have pride. I can't possibly take Robert's inheritance after he committed such a heinous betrayal. "I don't have any idea, Robert. I never got a will. Your grandfather didn't even give me a penny. You should ask your family. They know better." Robert's hand pointed at me. He was so annoying. "Don't accuse my family. They are a respected family. They're not like you, Emma. You were poor and used my grandfather, so I had to marry you!" This is my biggest regret. I never asked Robert to marry me. It all started because Robert and I worked at his grandfather's company. I was such a diligent employee that his grandfather liked me. It just so happened that my relationship with Robert was also good. I don't know what kind of arrangement Robert had with his grandfather. Robert proposed to me, and I accepted. I thought he loved me, but apparently, he just wanted to fulfil his grandfather's wishes for the inheritance. I didn't know until I found out that he'd been cheating on me all along. I kept worrying that Nathan would show up. Robert would think I was using Nathan. Worse than that, I could be accused of harassing Nathan because I was older than Nathan. "You should go," I said. "I don't want anyone to see you here." "Well," Robert smirked. I didn't like the way he smiled at me. I hated Robert. In a year, he had made me so depressed. I wanted to let go of all this pain. Robert didn't want to leave. Instead, he came in and ransacked my house. He opened drawers and broke everything he found. "Robert, don't!" Robert was doing this on purpose. He was upset that he didn't get anything from his grandfather's estate and accused me. "Tell me where you hid it, Emma. Don't joke!" Robert continued to shuffle around my house. I pulled Robert's hand away. The furniture here belonged to Barack. How was I going to replace all this damage? "Robert!" I squealed, hysterical about the situation. "You've gone too far!" "What?" Robert glared at me. He then grabbed my neck. He wanted to kill me so much. It was obvious from the way he looked at me. "How dare you, Emma. Did you think I could be fooled by you? You hurt me so much that you planned all this!" I was having trouble breathing. How was this going to go? Am I going to die here? Why is Robert so annoying? I had given up on our marriage, but why was he still interfering with my life? "If I don't find the will, then you will die. I swear, Emma." I flailed at Robert's hand to get him to let me go, but it seemed useless. His hands gripped my neck tightly. I'm going to die here. I'm going to die, and people won't care about me anymore. Maybe that's my destiny. I am indeed worthless. I should leave this world instead of suffering all the time. Since the divorce, I've never felt happy. I feel ruined. I'd rather die. Suddenly, a bell rang from the front of the house. Of course, it startled Robert, who immediately smothered my mouth. "Be quiet!" Robert warned me in a whisper. "Mrs. Wilson! Mrs. Wilson!" It was Nathan's voice. Wasn't he in my room? How did he get through the front door? Nathan entered the house because the door hadn't been closed since Robert arrived. At once, Robert took his hand off me. "Hey, Man. What are you doing?" Robert pretended like nothing had happened. While I was coughing because of what he did. Nathan showed an innocent expression. He was confused by Robert's presence here. "Am I disturbing you, Guys?" Nathan asked. "I need to see Mrs. Wilson about some coursework I need to do, but if you guys are busy, then I'll leave." Nathan turned around. This was my chance. Nathan must have deliberately entered from the front door to help me. "Actually, you're on personal business, man. You can come next time." Robert answered Nathan. "No, Nathan!" I immediately ran to Nathan. "Work is more important. What did you want to ask?” Nathan took my hand and hid it behind his back. He gripped it so tightly. "Shall we?" Nathan looked at Robert. I saw the redness in Nathan's eyes. "Why are you coming to your lecturer’s house at night, Man? You should know what etiquette is," Robert said. Nathan smiled at Robert. He then let go of my hand and grabbed Robert's arm. "Did you know Mrs. Wilson is my private tutor, Sir?" Nathan was so confident. "My dad specifically asked Mrs. Wilson to work as a tutor for me. My dad is obsessed with education. So, he wants me to have great achievements. If you don't believe me you can ask my dad. That is if you're prepared to replace the urn you broke a while ago." Well, I didn't expect Nathan to be so bold. Robert didn't dare argue with Nathan anymore, even though Robert hadn't broken the urn, and I'm sure Robert didn't want to deal with this. He didn't have that kind of money to replace a million-dollar urn. Robert looked at me sarcastically. While I tried to ignore him. "We're not done yet, Emma. I'll see you next time." Robert's words were like a threat to me. He was more toxic than when we were married. Robert left my house immediately. After making sure his car left this place, I was very relieved. I fell to the floor, clutching my neck, which was still in pain. My body was limp and helpless. To make matters worse, I cried because Robert had been cruel to me.
