Chapter Twelve What Have I Learned? I read a blog post once in which a woman called her submission to her Master learned helplessness. It is not that at all. I have a family member who has learned helplessness because his mother rescued him and bailed him out of trouble every time he made a mistake. When we never learn to put our big-girl panties on and deal with life’s issues on our own—because someone else always solves our problems for us—that is learned helplessness. We never get to develop our capabilities in this regard if we never employ our own efforts. How can one strengthen a skill that is never used?
