Chapter 8

1352 Words
Liam walks into his office and takes his seat on his executive office chair. He swivels the seat sideways, staring at his office. He smiles and rolls up his sleeves to start his new day in the office. Leaning forward on his desk, he switches on his computer to check the company's records, waiting for the computer to boot. He ticks off the time as he waits for the computer to finish booting. Just then, his secretary knocks, and he responds, "Come in." Margret walks into Liam's office holding a file and smiles faintly at him, looking downward. "Yes... What's your name again?" Liam asks her, staring at her pretty yellow face. "Margret Jonathan," she says, still smiling. "Okay, Miss Margret, what do you want or how can I help you?" Liam asks as she steps forward. "Sir, Mr. John Patrick brought this file this morning and said I should hand it over to you," she replies, staring at him. "Okay, please drop it here," he points to the side of his desk with empty space and a few files. Margaret steps forward and drops it. She is a light-skinned beauty, a bit chubby, very tall, and elegantly dressed in a loose suit, unlike the tight short blue suit she wore the previous day. She drops the file on his desk and steps back. "Anything else?" Liam asks her, staring at her face. "Nothing else, boss," she smiles faintly and looks down again. "Good, you can leave," Liam dismisses her and starts typing on his computer, which is already switched on. Margret leaves his office, still smiling, and joins her colleagues working on the third floor. They are divided by a transparent glass wall, allowing them to see each other's offices and clients. Liam continues with his office work, forgetting to check the file Miss Margret brought him in the morning, until it's time for lunch. As he stands up to leave for the company's cafeteria downstairs, he sees the file and sighs, realizing it is related to Mr. John Patrick and his daughter, a topic his father had discussed with him. Liam decides to have lunch first and then return to check the file and hand it over to the department responsible for employing new staff. He walks down to the second floor where the cafeteria is located. Some female staff members frown as they see him approaching, knowing he implemented the rule about wearing oversized and loose outfits to work instead of tight or short clothes. Liam is not concerned about their reactions and takes his seat for lunch. After ordering his food, he notices Margret Jonathan's intense gaze on him and shifts his focus away from her. After lunch, he returns to his office to continue his work. Margret has developed feelings for Liam since the day he arrived at the company and his father introduced her to him on the fifth floor. She is happy to not be in a serious relationship and hopes he will ask her out. She admires his dark, tall, and imposing presence, as she has a preference for dark-skinned men, especially one who is the CEO and new general manager of the BENSON GROUP. Margaret smiles, hoping Liam will notice her and ask her out, despite the dress code he implemented to prevent female staff from seducing him before her. She is content to wait for her chance to be with him, as they work in different sectors managing the company's affairs. Margaret quickly finished her lunch. She's a 27-year-old lady and she heard Liam is 30 years of age and the only child to his parent. "What a perfect match," she thinks, as she knows his mother is a peaceful, god-fearing, calm mother. Unlike some troublesome mother-in-law that she may have to worry about. Through with her lunch, as she's having her lunch with a male colleague of hers who works in the production team and he's also like the head there as his rank and position in the company is a bit higher, with his dedication and diligence in carrying out his office works, Christopher Edmond, a light-skinned man, is asking her out to be his woman. Margaret sits with him having her lunch, but her mind is totally on the CEO as Christopher is only just a worker like her, while the CEO is the main boss. Although Christopher is two years older than the CEO as Christopher is going to 32 years, Margaret doesn't like him that much. "Through with my lunch, I have to go now, Chris. You know the CEO is still new and I'm still his secretary," Margaret says to Christopher as she stands up from her seat. "I know Margaret, but you ain't his personal assistant and besides the CEO is very hardworking, so I doubt he really needs much of your presence around him," Christopher responds. "You're only saying that because you ain't on the third floor with us. Assuming you're on the third floor, you will know how serious and work smart we work sitting there besides the boss's office. I have to go now," Margaret replies to him coldly and he gulps. "Wait Margaret, I'm not stopping you from leaving either. Besides, I have to go back to the fourth floor too now. But how about my proposal to you? You haven't given me a response yet?" Christopher asks her and she frowns. "I know Chris, but I am still thinking about it," Margaret replies as she bites her lower lip, and Christopher likes how she called him Chris and bites her lower lip too. "So what do you say? I have even been asking you for your contact information, and you don't want to give it to me. You know I cannot ask any of your colleagues. Please just give me your phone number, I will call you tonight." "Chris..." Margaret hums his name, and just then, they hear the sound of the buzzer indicating that lunch is over. "I'm sorry, Chris, but I have to go now. Maybe some other time," Margaret says, leaving Chris speechless as she immediately walks out from their table of two seats and quickly makes her way out of the cafeteria. She walks upstairs using the stairs, as a lot of staff are also exiting the cafeteria and returning to their working positions in the five-story building company, which is very big. Margaret steps onto the third floor and quickly walks over to her glass office to take her seat. "What took you so long to arrive?" Bambam Davis, one of her colleagues on the third floor, asks her as she makes her way towards her office seat. "Nothing. Didn't you just hear the buzzer? It rang, lunch is over," Margaret replies coldly, not liking the dark-skinned beauty in front of her. "Really? Then tell that to the boss when you see him, as he called your line just now and you didn't pick up," Bambam retorts coldly. "He did? Why didn't you just say that, instead of wasting my time asking me silly questions? Have you gone to answer him? Did you pick up my call?" Margaret questions, but Bambam scoffs. "No. Why should I?" Bambam crosses her arms around her chest and stares at Margaret coldly. The supervisor on the third floor steps out, as his work is to monitor the staff and see if they are in their usual working positions. "What are you two chatting about?" The head supervisor, Mr. Mavin Newton, asks. "Nothing, sir," Bambam quickly responds and walks back to her own open office, which is across and opposite to Margaret's office, while Margaret continues to stare at Bambam coldly. Bambam is very black and a hot seductress too. Margaret hates Bambam and sees her as a threat, as Bambam also has an interest in the new CEO. Bitting her lower lip angrily as she continues to stare at Bambam coldly, who sits and smirks at her. "Argh!" Margaret grits her teeth in anger, and just then her office line rings again, startling her, and she immediately picks up.
