Burke entered DCI Collins’ office and strode straight over to the desk, where he set down a slim file and said, “We have a problem, sir, forensics have made a preliminary identification of some of the DNA from the burnt-out car that was found yesterday.”
“The suspicious death? What sort of problem?” Collins asked as he picked up the file and lifted the cover. “Does the DNA belong to someone we know?”
Burke nodded. “Yes, sir. According to forensics, Kurt Walker was in the car at some point before he was killed – the car certainly fits the make and model he was supposed to have been driving before he took hostages and got himself shot.”
