My dad glares at me with his greenish-brown eyes that shine through his overgrown
brown curls.
When did he start getting Into the shaggy look?
I smile sheepishly between the two men and cower as they place their hands on their hips
intimidatingly.
"I wuve you guys," I say in a baby voice.
"And we love you honey. That's why I'm going to make sure Alpha Axe straps you into a carseat
if you ever do that again."
My eyes widen and I nod in understanding. They're dead serious.
"I won't do it again," I promise.
Both men nod firmly, taking my word for it and they give me gentle hugs.
"I have a surprise for you princess," my dad announces taking my left hand. Two in one day?
Axe occupies my other and we walk to my old cabin house contently.
This is nice. I hope we visit more often.
Upon entry, a mouthwatering smell wafts past the open door and I look to my father in
confusion.
"Did you learn how to cook?"
Not to say he never has, but pasta doesn't smell this amazing.
Dimples appear on his stubbled cheeks and he shakes his head.
"No. I want to Introduce you to someone."
Not a minute later, a black haired woman walks out of the kitchen, plucking off her oven mitts.
She seems young. Older than me, but with an air of motherly maturity.
She smiles widely when she meets my eyes and flits her eyes to my father for a moment.
"You must be Lilac. The resemblance..."
"Is not there," I finish off for her.
Everyone knows I look like the polar opposite of my dad.
She forces a laugh and my father walks over and puts an arm around her.
"Honey, this is Anita. My second chance mate."
My eyes buldge and I watch my father's eyes search mine for approval.
What about mom? I know it's been years, but he never even considered moving on when I was
home. Did I hold him back? Are they mated?
There is one question above all that seems to bother me the most. It rubs me in an uncomfortable
way and I think for a minute that I'll be expected to accept this whether I like it or not.
Is she supposed to be my new mom?
