Chapter 7

1030 Words
His? Like... His mate? A second chance mate?! Hope fills me thinking the moon goddess blessed me, but then I realize I'm not getting the addictive smell that I had with Jackson. That could be due to the snot stuffing my nose up from all the crying though. The man across the table is huge and his eyes are almost totally black. He has short messy black hair and a full neatly trimmed beard. The man next to him with a brownish blond hair color gapes between us, but everyone else in the room are slowly going to the back of my mind. The huge man looks scary. Looks, but I have this undeniable feeling that I can't explain. It's like even though he's clearly giving into his wolf, I want to be beside him. I want to be touching him. I need to. As if in a trance, I step around my father and step towards him, only for my dad to yank me back against him quickly. The strange man growls viciously and my father matches it possessively. "Woah! Hold up here," alpha Cam says holding his hands out. Being Leeland's dad, I see him a lot, but I've never seen him so...confused. "Alpha Axe, Gamma James, what's going on?" The stranger, Alpha Axe walks around the long meeting table and towards my father and I. Despite my attempts to give into the pull and meet him halfway, I'm pushed to the side behind my father's outstretched arm. "Mate," Alpha Axe says in a deep rumbling voice. "That's impossible," my father spits. "I want him out of here and away from my daughter!" Axe growls again and reaches for me, but my father slashes his hand away with the threat of extending claws. This really is my mate. The Alpha of the Blood Canis pack is my true second chance mate! Excitement bubbles within me and I move the fastest I have in the past two days. Sidestepping my father's arm and pulling away when he reaches out again, I stumble across the room and wrap my arms tightly around the Giants waist. His own tree trunk thick arms entrap me soon after, his nose finding it's resting place in my neck beneath the mess of curls. The tingling sensation of the mate bond is indescribable. It brings us instant pleasure and comfort, causing me to feel the best I have in a very long time. "Mate," I whisper softly. There's a small rumble of appreciation in Axe's chest and I sigh contently. This was meant to be. "Stop! Get off her! Lilac, get away from him!" My father's angry voice causes me to tense and I turn around in Axe's arms to face him and my packs side of the table. Dad, Alpha Cam, and Beta Rootox watch with wide eyes. "He's my mate, dad. My second chance mate," I clarify with happiness. At the news, Axe's arms tighten and I put my hand over his arm assuringly. "That's impossible," my father says looking to our Alpha. "She isn't over her first mate yet and Alpha Axe is ten years older than her!" Alpha Cam looks at Jackson's stunned dad with hesitation before stuttering a bit. "We-well... She did accept the rejection and... It's illegal to keep willing mates apart." I'm relieved to hear that everything is now my decision. They can't keep me away from Axe. I don't even know him, but his very presence sends the feeling of thrill and protection through me. "I want to be with my mate," I clarify. The room is silent for a moment before an unknown voice speaks up. "We finally have a Luna," the blond man on Axe's side of the table says. I smile at him. We would make good friends, and being Luna... I suppose I'll grow into that. "No! No, you don't. My daughter does not leave this pack!" I frown at my father and avoid eye contact. "Maybe Alpha Axe could stay in our house for the next day while I pack? We'll get to know him and we can work out a visiting schedule. Blood Canis pack is only forty-five minutes away." It's custom for the female to move in with the male, unless the female is of a higher position in the pack. I might have been a gamma to be, but it doesn't rival an alphas title. "You aren't going anywhere Lilac! Blood Canis is the most dangerous pack out there! Haven't you noticed they're the ones starting these wars?! Because of that man's father, your mother is dead!" My mouth gapes open in despair and I hold back a pained whimper. Dad never talks about mom. I certainly didn't think he would start as a way to make me hate my mate. "Axe isn't his father," I argue squeezing my mate's hand and trying to hold back tears. My dad shakes his head and grinds his teeth. "No. He was raised by him, though. I'm not going to let him take you away from me. His family has done enough damage." I can feel my breathing quicken as I begin to panic. Why is this so complicated? Why can't I just be with my mate? Axe finally speaks up when he notices me choking back tears and what he says only makes me want to be with him more. "I've come here to make a treaty with your pack. I come to make peace, and in return, you try to keep my mate from me? As you can tell, I am not my father and I am not waging war against anyone who doesn't initiate it. Now that I've found my love, she will never be absent from my arms. I've waited a decade to find her and I refuse to lose her now. We will make constant visits and I will give you all time to say your goodbyes, but by tomorrow afternoon, my love is coming home with me." "Or what," my dad spits crossing his arms. "Or you risk war. I will kill everyone in this pack and leave with my mate if that's what it takes."
