Chapter 4

Chapter 4 Lunch was a lively affair. Despite things being awkward due to Leeland and I's kiss at first, Reece ended up getting mistaken for a waitress. She had chosen to wear a flowy powder blue dress that was nearly identical to the staff at Granny's. After being led to the table, one of the waitresses said, "oh! I didn't know you were taking the tables in this section!" She then handed Reece the menus and left her to it. As a joke, she went along with it and took our orders, even going as far as to bring out the food and snack on the fries in the back. She got a free meal out of it and nobody even noticed when we left. Leeland and I's meals were tip free of course because it was just Reece, so we saved money. Score. Now it's 2:20 and we're all on our way to the middle of the city where we're all going to the club. It's early yeah, but I need a full night of partying if I'm going to be grounded forever. Reece sighs from her spot in the driver's seat and looks at me through the mirror. "Lilac, you're bringing us down with you. This is the twelfth time your dad has called me." "Yeah," Leeland says pulling out his phone. "He's called me eight times." So the dictator noticed. Surprise. Surprise. "I don't need him to baby me. Especially on my birthday," I say grumpily. He won't do anything To my friends. Just me, but he doesn't give me all that many privileges anyway so bring it on. ••• It takes two hours to reach the club through all the traffic and since it's almost five, anyone else Reece invited from the pack should be on their way. "Who all is coming," I ask after flirting my way in with the bouncer. Reece is legal and Leeland has a fake ID, but I need to use my other resources. Reece pulls me to an empty round booth where I sit between my two friends watching people drink and stumble on the dance floor. Luckily, they haven't gone into night mode, so the flashing lights haven't come on and the music is at a tolerable volume. "Um... I invited Maddy, Kayla, Genny, Crystal, and Violet." Crystal, violet and I get along well, Maddy is tolerable, but Kayla and Genny ignore me. It's two sided though. I'm not fond of them either. "I invited Chris, Jackson, and Tommy. Rupert couldn't make it," Leeland says typing away on his phone. "Not Jackson," I whine. Leeland makes an exasperated face at me. He knows I hate Jackson, despite the fact that he's Leeland's guy best friend. He's the beta's son and ever since I wouldn't go out with him in sixth grade, he's been my bully. I never did tell my friends the extent of his harassment, but that's only because I don't want to be a bother or explain things in detail. "I don't understand why you hate him so much. Can't you two just get along?" "Yeah," Reece says. "He's not that bad and he's certainly good looking." I roll my eyes. He might be to other people, but to me he's just TOO pretty. TOO perfect and TOO... Just too much! He's like the most normal looking guy on the planet and he might be hot, but his looks are just plain boring. The fact that he's a player is a turn off anyway. Nobody wants someone who wants everyone. Not me anyway. "Tommy says they're almost here. They should be pulling in soon so do you guys wanna get drinks?" I nod and Reece jumps up excitedly to find the bartender. I guess she's the barista for the night. I've never had a drink, but anything to drown out life sounds perfect right now. Less than five minutes later, Reece comes back with a round tray of about fifty shots at the same time our guests arrive. Tommy, Kayla, and Jenny have to pull chairs up because the booth can only fit so many of us and I practically sing when I see Jackson isn't with them. Maybe he couldn't come. "Okay," Reece says putting the tray down and plopping beside me. "These are whiskey, these are vodka, and these are tequila. Birthday girl first." Everyone looks at me. Reece is smiling and Leeland is smirking, both ready to see me take my first sip. I pick up two shots, the tequila and vodka before I down them both to the sound of my friends whooping. "Okay badass! Leave some for the rest of us!" While everyone downs shots, we joke about things in the pack. About four shots in, I can feel my heart getting fuzzy. As I lift another shot to my mouth, I pause and sniff it deeply. Why does vodka smell like pine and coal? It's good actually. REALLY good. I lean back and close my eyes, sniffing my shot more until Reece bumps my shoulder from the side. "Why is your nose in your drink?" I open my eyes and look over with raised brows. "You don't smell this?" I end up spilling the shot on her when I thrust it near her face, but she just shakes her head wipes up with a napkin. "It smells like vod-" "AAYY! Jacksonnn," Leeland yells standing up and swinging this arm. The whole table looks over to see the brown-haired guy with a leather jacket standing a couple feet away. He's to the side of the dancefloor, but strangely enough he doesn't move. His eyes are fixed on mine and he stares intently before walking over with a clear purpose. The lovely smell strengthens as he comes closer and by the time I realize what’s happening, I sink down in the booth. No, this can't be. Jackson cannot be my mate.
