7 What Happens In The Box

852 Words
A knock suddenly sounded at Kristi's door, interrupting her. "Who is it?" she asked carefully. And when there was no response, Kristi began to panic. After calling out again and getting no response, she grasped the door handle, slowly turned it, and when she started to pull it open, Ray pushed it so hard that it hit her in the forehead. For the third time that day, Kristi was thrown to the floor. She brought her hand up to her forehead, but Ray was utterly indifferent to your pain. He stood over her and shouted at her: "How dare you leave the box with my say so? Don't you know that you embarrassed me in front of my friends?!?!?!?" Kristi trembled, and her blood rushed to her head. The fact of the matter was that he HAD excused her, but she knew better than to contradict him when he was angry, so she bit her tongue and said nothing. Ray spat on Kristi and said, "Are you so desperate to not be alone, that you would hook up with any man?" Gradually, Kristi lowered her eyes humbly, and with a pale and feeble voice, she pleaded with him. "Ray," she said, "I just want to live." "Live?" Ray laughed. "Do you think that you deserve to live?" Ray's words stung Kristi, and she began to cry, but that only made him angry. "Cut it out. You're not fooling anyone, and your ploy to garner my sympathy makes me sick." Ray planted his foot on Kristina's chest and pushed her flat on her back. After that, he sat down on her stomach. He held her hands above her head, and in a quiet voice, he said, "Kristina, I will never forgive you for what you did. Do you understand?" Kristi nodded her head wordlessly, and after a moment, Ray got off her and left her alone. After that, Kristi's work at the club became harder than ever. People glared at her maliciously, and whenever the opportunity arose, Alicia taunted her mercilessly. One time, while Kristi was cleaning the women's washroom, Alicia approached her. "Wow, Kristi!" she said scornfully, "Why isn't there anyone to protect you today? Have you lost the ability to seduce men?" Kristi opened her mouth, but no quick response was to be found. Alicia laughed and said, "What is this? You look pitiful in front of a man, but you are paralyzed in front of me. Who is this act for?" "I-I'm s-sorry," Kristi stammered. "I d-don't know what you w-want me to say…" There was a mop bucket near the wall. Kristi had set it aside after she'd cleaned the floors. Alicia looked at it mischievously, and then she kicked it over. "Whoopsie. I guess you'll have to clean the floors again. Sorry. Not sorry." In a later instance, when Kristi was taking her lunch break, Alicia 'accidentally' bumped into her, and her food went all over the floor. Alicia had leaned into her ear, and with a grin on her face, she said, "Sorry. Not sorry. I guess you'll either have to eat off of the floor or go hungry!" Kristi hadn't known what to do. She was so hungry that she was starting to feel dizzy, but she was proud, and she didn't relish the idea of eating off the floor. Luckily, Miles appeared just then. He looked at Kristi and said, "Don't worry about the mess. I saw what happened. This 'accident' was Alicia's fault, and I am sure that she will be happy to clean it up." He turned to Alicia with a stern expression on his face. "Isn't that correct, Alicia?" Alicia's face turned red with rage and embarrassment, but she had no choice but to agree to do as he'd said. After all, he had a lot of power and pull at the Diamond Club. "You had better get to that before you eat," Miles said, and once she'd left to get the broom and dustpan, he turned to Kristi and said, "Kristi, I will take you out to eat!" Kristi nodded and allowed herself to be led to the front entrance. She didn't fully recover from the astonishment of what had transpired until they'd been outside for a couple of minutes, and when she did, she asked him why he had been helping her lately. "Why wouldn't I?" Miles replied. "After seeing me a half-dozen times, though, do you still not recognize me?"  "I don't," Kristi admitted. "I don't understand. None of this makes sense. Just tell me who you are, and why you keep helping me!" Miles looked Kristi in the eyes and said, "If I said that I was interested in you, would you believe me?" Kristi took a step backward and said, "Please don't make fun of me. We both know that people like me are not worthy of human affection…" Miles chuckled helplessly and said, "I will tell you the truth. I think you are very pitiful, but you remind me of my long-lost sister. That's why I help you. Do you understand now?" Kristi looked at Miles with a surprised expression on her face. "Thank you," Mr. Bradford. "I understand now. I believe you, and I appreciate all that you've done for me."
