It has been a week since that night happened. Blane had no courage to tell his best friend about what happened when he got home late. He never says a word. They spent time hanging out together last weekend since they have to go back to their routine when Monday comes.
They are both law students, so basically, they are studying 24/7, and since Blane needed a job to pay for his bills, he only works 2 to 3 hours at the club as a server, except on Fridays because he had no class on the next day. He then studies his lessons until dawn and wakes up at 7 am. Krys was also there to help him if he needed it badly.
What are best friends for?
It was already Thursday and the two friends were enjoying their study session in the library, sometimes they both studied in the cafe, which was their favorite place because of the ambiance and the smell of freshly ground beans.
While studying, Blane kept on glancing at the boy across from him who was focused on reading the textbook peacefully. He was guilty of not saying anything and he was also afraid that what if his best friend got mad at him for sleeping with his stepbrother?
Krys didn’t mention that about his brother that much but Blane knows how he despises him. When the two siblings fought, Blane was always there to listen to all of the rants from Krys.
He was just not ready yet.
What would he feel? Sleeping with someone who your best friend hated the most. That feels awful on Krys' part.
But it was just one night. It was no accident that I made mistakes.
“Blane, are you okay?” Krys suddenly asks. Blane turned his eyes to him and nodded.
“Why?”
“I’ve been noticing that you kept on looking at me. Do you have something to tell me? Is everything alright?”
Blane nodded again and gave a fake laugh, “Yeah! I’m fine. Maybe I didn’t have enough sleep last night because I kept on reviewing for the test we had this morning,”
Krys had nothing to do but to let it slip. He knew that there was something going on, especially his best friend who had something to tell him yet he couldn’t. Maybe he’s not ready yet and he will respect it if he's not comfortable telling him.
He may be there through Blane’s ups and downs, but he knows how to respect somebody’s privacy.
“Do you want to have dinner with me tonight?”
Blane stopped from reading his textbook and looked up at him, “Why? Is there some celebration I missed?”
He chuckled, “No. It’s just that we barely went to dinner, so I’m asking you out.”
“But I have a shift tonight,” he sadly responded, “It will end at eight.”
“Then, I will wait for you.”
“Okay,” he smiled. Krys smiled back at him, relieved that Blane said yes. He really wanted to take him out on a real date because Blane had no time to have fun since he'd been working and studying. He wanted Blane to relax for once. He couldn’t ask Blane to take their friendship level because he knew that Blane wasn’t ready for a relationship and he was afraid that their friendship would be ruined.
As their class finishes, Blane rushes to the club where he works and Krys goes home to finish some assignments before he goes to Blane’s apartment to wait for him. He wouldn’t pick Blane from his work since the younger up wanted to go home first and take a bath before they had dinner.
Fast forward, they both met at Blane’s apartment and Blane walked straight to the bathroom to get ready while Krys was in the living room watching some Netflix shows. It only took half a couple of minutes for Blane to finish because he was already hungry and he didn’t want Krys to wait any longer.
When he finished, they both walked into the parking lot to where Krys’ car was. The restaurant where they will be dining is only a couple of blocks away and it’s not that fancy. They just love the place because it is where their favorite meals are and it’s cozy and it’s not crowded.
Once they arrived, they sat at their favorite place, which was near the window. One of the staff spotted them already, so she smiled at them and handed them each the menu.
“I will get the usual,” Blane said.
“So am I.”
They handed her back the menu and the waitress smiled at them and excused herself. When she was gone, Krys looked at Blane and Blane caught him.
“What?”
Krys smiled, “Nothing. I just miss this.”
“I miss this too. Thank you for taking me out again,” Blane smiled.
Will he get mad if I confess to him what I feel right now? Krys questioned himself. He doesn’t want to ruin this dinner date for them, since this only happens once in a blue moon due to their schedules.
Fuck it. It’s a win it or lose it.
“Blane, I have something to tell you,” he blurted out, and Blane looked at him in seriousness. Krys' expression was really serious so he was all ears.
“What is it?”
“I–”
But luck was not on Krys’ side when the manager walks up to them and interrupts the confession.
“Hello, guys. How are you?” he greeted with a smile. They both looked to the side where the man is standing.
“We’re both fine. How about you Liam?” Blane said.
“I’m good too, Blane. I’m just happy that you two were here. I knew that you both had ended up together,” Liam chuckled and Blane stole a glance at Krys and gave a little laugh. Blane probably thought that Krys was uncomfortable since Krys was just looking at him, so he decided to butt in and defend themselves.
“N-No. We’re not together. We’re just friends,” he said,
Liam frowned as reality slapped him, “Oh. Is that so? I’m sorry. I just thought that you two were together now since you two were friends for a really long time and very close to each other.”
Blane gave a small laugh and carry on with their conversation. Liam really wanted his two friends to end up together because first, they would be a great couple, and second, they’re not dating anyone.
Krys, on the other hand, got hurt by what Blane said. It hurt him when Blane told their friend that they were just friends. Although he wanted to confess his feelings, he still had the gut that Blane wouldn’t return it.
