Cora’s Point of View
I was forced to drive home. Lily was sitting in silence, leaning her head against the window. Poor girl! She had gone through so much trouble just because of me. How much I wished I had never fallen for that Monster. The ride was silent. We only stopped once for a brief coffee break. After driving for hours, we finally reached the city. I knew where we had to go. Wasting no time, I drove straight to the bar that was mentioned earlier in the message.
Lily jumped off the car and ran inside the bar. I followed her. Soon my eyes met Kelly, still tied on the pole, half dead. Those ropes were the only thing that was holding her up. Then my gaze shifted to Lily’s family. Five men were in the bar, holding guns. Their eyes were fixed on us.
“Finally, here,” one of them blurted.
To be truthful, I wanted to smack his head against the wall, making it bleed for good. Then my eyes fell on Lily at once. She was frozen in her place. Her cheeks were flooding with tears. And her family was in a mess.
“We are here… now release them,” I responded in a chocked voice.
“Be my guest,” that guy repeated.
I ran towards her parents and pulled them into a hug. Her mom melted in my arms.
“It’s okay! Everything will be okay.” I whispered as I untied the ropes.
“Who sent you?” Lily asked suddenly, still standing tall at her place. Those tears had disappeared, leaving rage in them.
“What name are you looking for?” His gaze was piercing through Lily.
“Lorenzo!” She mumbled.
“Still couldn’t forget? Three years, isn’t it?” He smirked. His eyes were glued to Lily. It felt as if he had mistaken her for me. Why was he asking her about all these?
Lily stood still as the guy made his way towards her. Holding her chin, he grinned over her face, “not bad!”
I stood up from my position, “stay away from her.”
“Aren’t you that little girlfriend of hers?” That man let go of Lily and turned towards me. His cold green eyes were bringing a shiver down my spine. But I couldn’t show him my weakness.
“You have me now… let them go,” I spoke with confidence.
“And what will I do with you, Lily?” He looked amused. His words brought me back to my senses. He took Lily as me. He had mistaken my identity. His cold stare was making me uncomfortable.
Before I could clarify their mistake, Lily spoke up, “that’s true. You’ve met. Let them go now.”
No! She was trying to take my place. Lorenzo would find out eventually, and she would suffer the most. I couldn’t let that happen.
“No… She’s Lily… You made a mistake.” I blurted quickly.
“No, you haven’t. Lily, stop,” Lily raised her voice.
That guy moved his gaze from me to Lily once and then again to me.
“She’s just trying to save me… I’m Cora… you’re after me, right?” I spoke again.
“No, she’s lying,” Lily yelled again.
“Enough! Stop, you both!” That guy ordered. He made his way towards me. Gripping my hand, he pulled me near Lily and made me stand by her side. I still couldn’t believe they made such a mistake. Well, we both shared the same brown hair and same shed of eyes. Still, Lorenzo knew me very well.
“You both are coming,” he ordered. His men surrounded us and motioned us towards the door.
“No... please, let her go,” I pleaded again. It was of no use. Suddenly I felt Lily clasping my hand. She did it for me again. Her teary eyes were looking at me. She gave me a small nod of understanding.
“You shouldn’t have done that,” I whispered.
“Anything for you,” she muttered.
They led us to a car. Lily and I sat in the middle. Another guy was holding a gun against my head. The car was running through the city. Soon I realised we were going to the outskirt. I thought we would be taken to a hotel where Lorenzo was staying.
“Where are you taking us?” I asked.
“You’ll see.” That man replied with a smirk.
I exchanged glances with Lily. We were holding on to each other. The car was running on the highway, leaving the city behind. I didn’t know exactly which way we were going. They took several turns here and there, and finally, we stopped in front of a manor in the middle of nowhere. Was that Lorenzo’s? How many properties did he have? Well, he was rich. I shouldn’t be surprised.
“Get down,” the guard said, poking my head with his gun. With no resistance, we followed his orders. There was of no use, anyway. I couldn’t fight someone holding a firearm, especially when Lily was around. Any wrong step could cause her life.
Slowly, we walked through the huge garden and then reached the front door. Lily was scared. Her grip on my arm was telling it all. I didn’t blame her. I was afraid as well, but couldn’t show them my weakness. An uneasiness built up in my heart. I could have never thought Lorenzo would go that far. Hurting her family was extreme. Now I was about to face him again. I didn’t know what to do.
I was engrossed in my thoughts when a gasp left Lily’s mouth. I shifted my gaze towards her, only to find one guard pulled her away. He clenched her hands as he pushed an injection into her arms.
“Lily!” I screamed, trying to reach her, but couldn’t. Another strong pair of arms surrounded me as I felt the needle sinking on my skin.
My head became heavy. I could hardly keep my eyes open. The last thing I heard was, “well done! I will love to see what Lorenzo can do about this.”
Lorenzo’s Point of View
I had to come back because of Marco. He had created a big mess. The dealing of weapons had slowed down. Also, he made some allegations about my legal businesses. Antonio was working day and night to fix everything. I gave him a hand to fix the issues. We had meetings after meetings. Then we cleared their base in one go. To my wonder, there was hardly any guard. I knew it wouldn’t be the end of him. I needed to look for the alliance since Marco was back. It took me almost a week to cool everything down. Now I could again concentrate on Cora.
I wondered how she had been doing! How dared is she tricking me? She had always been bold. And I loved that about her. I f*cking liked everything about her. And soon, she would be in my arms, thinking about me only. I would cut through all your little tricks, cupcake and would bring you here even before you could realise.
To my wonder, I hadn’t heard from Elijah in these days. I was unsure of the situation there. What was taking him that long? After taking the much-needed shower, I wrapped the towel around my waist and walked into the closet. As I changed into my sweatpants, the sound of my phone grabbed my attention. Elijah was calling. He better had some good news. He was capable enough, and I was assured he would have reached Cora by now.
“Speak,” I asserted, picking up the phone.
“Boss… there’s a problem.” He exclaimed.
His voice was enough for me to know something went terribly wrong. Cora! Was it about her? My heart was pounding. If something happened to her, I swear I would burn everyone down.
“What is it?” I asked, trying to keep my voice as calm as possible.
“Marco knew about her. We tracked his men in the city. And… they have captured her.” He spoke in the end.
Cora! Marco found her. I was sweating hearing the news. F*ck, I never sweat. My heart was throbbing louder and louder. For a moment, I lost my voice, my reasoning, my everything. Now everything became clearer to me. He created the mess here so that I had to come back, leaving her off guard. And he could easily capture her while I was away. Why hadn’t I seen it before? Now I knew why his den was so empty and lacking protection.
“Do you know the location?” I asked.
“We are trying to track down.” He replied.
He did everything with a purpose. I knew him very well. He had his ways with the woman. I could hardly believe what he could do to Cora.
“Do whatever it takes. I’m coming.” I responded.
