Chapter 2 The following morning, the sky seemed lower. Banks of enormous grey clouds, some as dark as slate, hung heavily in the atmosphere. The humidity had a hint of chilliness to it. The rainy season was announcing its arrival. There was nothing more for Adama to do. His hibernation burrow was prepared. The macan leaves had been collected and placed inside. The time had arrived to purge and bathe. Adama walked in the direction of the stream. On the way, he squatted by a tree and purged. There was no hurry, and the job had to be done properly. For though he would be sleeping deeply, in a state as close to death as one could get without actually going there, anything left in his system would find a way out and soil his burrow.
