III
The next few days go by fast, we don't have another incident with Mr. Morgan, and for that I'm grateful. It's now Friday after school, and I have plans for a girls night with Jenny and Rebecca. Dean decided to go over and hang out with the guys anyway.
"Have fun, babe." He says, kissing me as I exit the car. We are over at Rebecca's house since no one would be home. "But not too much fun." He winks. I laugh while walking away. When I get in the house, I get a text message and pull out my phone to see a letter from Dean.
Dean: I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you walk away ;)
I laugh at his cheesiness and look up to see two perfect pairs of questioning eyebrows in my direction. Jenny and Becca are standing right in front of me. "Okay rules, no phones, and no boyfriends, tonight is just for us!" Becca demands taking my phone from my hand and shutting it off. I frown but don’t stop her. She’s right, it hasn’t just been us three in a long time.
"So, what should we start with? Movie? Gossip? Pillow fight?" I joke on the last one and watch Jenny burst into laughter.
"Yeah...let's prove...all those cliches...right," Jenny says between laughs.
"Why not?" I ask with a shrug and a smile.
"Well, I say we start with gossip and food," Becca suggests while taking out her phone.
"Hey! I thought we said no phones." Bee gives me a dumb look and points to the phone.
"It's for pizza.” I decide to let this one slip. Food is obviously the one exception to the no phone rule.
When the pizza arrives, we tip the girl and run into the living room where we've put every blanket and pillow in the house all spread out over the floor. We dig into the food. I look up at Jenny who is upside down on the couch. Her blonde hair is hanging off, and she eats her pizza like its the last meal.
Becca is on the floor with blankets and pillows under her to keep comfortable. She is picking at the pepperoni on her slice, she's always been iffy on pepperoni. Finally, she decides she doesn't care and takes a bite.
I lay on my stomach across from Becca, and I chew silently, waiting. "So..." Jenny trails off questionably.
"Whatever it is spill," I say waiting impatiently for her to speak.
"Jake and I..." Jenny starts, and I already know what's coming.
"Jenny lost her V-card." Becca sings and throws a piece of pepperoni back in the box.
"Oh my god, Jenny!" I yell. Apart of me always knew they would lose it to each other eventually but I must admit I didn’t think she would beat me. Her parents are Christians, along with beauty pageants and nail polish abstinence had been drilled in her head since birth.
"Yeah! I can't believe it either but...yeah." She decides with a smile plastered on her face. I don't think she could wipe it off if she tried.
"How was he?" Bee asks wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.
"Well, it sucked...at first but after a while, we kinda got the hang of it, and it was amazing." I listen to her explanation of it. For a second I wonder if that’s how Dean and I’s first time will be.
I shake my head, he and I are waiting."What about you? Are you still a virgin?" I ask Rebecca.
"Oh god no.” She tells me. “Lost that months ago." Rebecca waves off.
"I can't believe you two didn't tell me," I admit but not in a serious tone. I'm not really mad because their personal lives are none of my business. If Dean and I had done it, I’m not sure if I would tell them right away.
"Yeah, but I wanted us all to be together so I could tell you both at the same time. It's probably the same for Jenny." Jenny nods in agreement. At Least she has a point. It’s not like I have been around much.
Bee then kicks me playfully, and I know she's asking me the same.
I put my hands up In mock surrender, "Still Virgin Mary." I tell them, and they gasp. "What?" I ask.
"Nothing." Jenny shrugs. Her interest in her pizza is now gone. "Just thought you would be the first out of all of us."
"Yeah, you two have been together the longest," Rebecca adds.
I shrug, "It's not that we haven't almost, or anything it's just that I'm not ready." I tell them looking down at my pizza.
"Well, you're probably more ready than any of us were but a little...scared maybe?" Jenny questions cautiously.
I sigh," Yeah, I am. I don't know why I love being with Dean. I guess I'm just afraid of the during and after." I admit to them only to realize that this is the first time I'm admitting this to myself as well as to them. "I know I'm being stupid," I add, but Bee grabs my hand.
"No, you're not stupid. You'll know when your ready and that's that." She assures me.
"I kinda have to be by graduation, I may have promised him we would that night.”
"Well that's like ten months away, you have plenty of time, and by then you'll be surer," Jenny tells me. It feels good talking to them about this.
"Until then remember to shave everything." I burst into a fit of laughter at Rebecca. She truly has no filter, but I wouldn't have her any other way. We spend the rest of the night this way, talking and laughing about everything and anything. It makes me happy to be spending this time with them. I definitely need to do this more often.
"You know we should do this monthly," I suggest, now lying upside down on the couch with Jenny in the middle. Bee is doing the same on the left side of Jenny. Our previous conversation out of our minds. Well, out of their minds.
"Yes! Oh my god, that's so perfect!" Rebecca exclaims.
"Oh, we can rotate who’s house each month," Jenny suggests earning a nod of agreement from Bee and me.
"I hope the boys are having fun," I say.
"Me too." Becca and Jenny say in unison.
We fall asleep like that. I think it was around three a.m. Hanging from a couch with blankets and snacks all over the place.
----------------------------------------------
Knocking at the door wakes me up. I sit up quickly and freak out for half a second before realizing where I am. My neck is stiff and sore causing me to have a hard time getting down. Finally, I brace myself and roll off the couch with a loud thump.
"Jenny, Bee, get up someone's at the door." I try but Jenny only stirs, and Rebecca mumbles curse words at me.
Moving over to Jenny I grab her face and start tapping her cheek with my hand. One tap is a little harder than the last.
"Ughhhhh." She groans opening one eye.
"What time is it?" I hear Becca grumble from the other end of the couch. She tries to lift her head immediately being weighed down by it painfully.
"I don't know, someone's at the door though," I tell her, but she doesn't move.
"Guys cover your ears." She didn't have to tell us twice. Even in our tired state, we know what that means. Covering our ears Rebecca screams, "It's open!" After that, she finally manages to roll off the couch with a few more choice words.
Jenny just hangs there, she doesn't attempt to get up because she knows it'll hurt. The door creaks open, and we hear footsteps down the hallway leading into the living room. Bee and I are sprawled on the floor, and Jenny lies painfully hanging from the couch.
The place was a disaster, but we had fun. Soon two more pairs of footsteps head down the hallway, and I look up in confusion.
"Babe uh...what happened last night?"
