Chapter Two

1600 Words
Lexie jolted out of her slumber. A quick look at the clock on the wall told her she had certainly not gotten much sleep, as it was still just a few minutes past eight in the evening. It didn’t take a genius to know that her body was still used to the routine at home, and this was around the time Gerald usually came home and demanded his dinner. She let out a sigh, pushed herself off the bed and she proceeded to the bathroom to wash her face. Her bad habit was that, once she woke up, it was hard for her to go back to sleep, unless she took long walks, to which the huge land back at home had come in handy. The quietness of the night back at home had given her the solace she had always needed. And she had always come back as quietly and quickly as she could. It was always a wonder, that the almighty Gerald hadn’t noticed a thing. Probably because he slept like a log of wood and snored the whole house down. The pungent smell of alcohol was like a frigging perfume on him. Hah! She washed her face thoroughly, drying it with her clean face towel, before proceeding to sort through the limited clothing she had brought with her. She was going on a small shopping trip once she got her first salary. Heaven knew she needed it. She picked loose jeans and a turtleneck long sleeve, that was completely open at the back and paired it with the only ankle boot she had brought with her. Just one hour to clear her head, and she would be back. The area looked busy and safe enough. She had made sure to save enough money for exactly that reason, so she wouldn’t end up with an old dingy apartment in the middle of nowhere. This was average, and she could afford it for a while before she picked up the pieces of her life. Once she was done dressing, Lexie pulled her hair into a wig cap, covered it with a wig, and pulled on a jacket, completing the look. She looked at herself in the mirror and just smiled a little. The burgundy went well with her outfit. Without wasting any more time, she walked out of her apartment, locking the door and pocketing the key, before making her way into the busy street of Seattle. If there was one thing she had learned since living with her stepfather, it was the art of suppressing her wolf. He hated seeing it as it reminded him of just how weak he was. Hah! The cool air rushed against her warm cheeks, instantly cooling them down. She found herself smiling more. It was always a pleasure taking these long walks. It was one thing she hadn’t had, taken from her, even if it was always supervised. Twenty minutes later, she found herself in front of a club, and for the first time in her life, decided to try it out. It couldn’t hurt, could it? After all, it was her first night of freedom. And what better way to celebrate? She felt for her ID in her jacket, and the single hundred dollar bill she had placed there, before walking inside the club that was in full swing. She had never been in a club before, so she did what she saw in the movies. She headed straight for the bar. ~ Varden Montgomery sat at the bar of his friend’s club as he drank himself to a stupor. It wasn’t usual for him to get drunk, but the night called for it. The day had certainly been the worst for him and deserved as much tequila as he could stomach. He didn’t care that he had come to the bar alone. He didn’t care that he had come in his car. And he certainly didn’t care that he was probably either going to be stuck in the club for the night, or he was going to be slammed with a DUI when he set out for his home with the amount of alcohol in his system. But the night certainly called for it. Just two hours ago, he had walked into the scene that would forever change his life. It wasn’t the first time such a thing was happening to him, but it was certainly the first time it was happening to him in such a manner. Just two hours ago, he had walked in on his girlfriend of seven months, Eve, not only cheating on him but involved in an orgy with both genders. A scene that had almost sent Varden’s lunch, rushing out of his stomach through his mouth as he saw his so-called girlfriend screaming in pleasure as she was being pinned down by a woman, who was kissing her, while two men took turns thrusting into her. Even as he thought about it now, he could feel his chest tighten painfully. What the f**k did she want that he hadn’t given her? What? He had practically gotten her everything she had asked for, even doing more. He had rented a penthouse in the heart of Seattle just for her. The penthouse he had stood in, watching her getting the f**k of her life. The images that clouded his vision as he thought about this, almost made him scream. He poured himself another glass, downing it in one go. And then another. And another. His brothers had warned him. They had warned him to the extent he had been forced to hide the relationship, lying to them whenever they asked. But Varden was determined to forget the pain. Tonight, he was going to drink. And then, he was going to find someone willing to share his bed for the night. Which was why, for the first time in a long while, he had chosen to let his curly hair free, and put on his glasses. Something that the public didn’t know him for. The curly hair that cascaded around his face in bouncy curls was the only thing that set him apart from his brothers, but years and years of mischief had made him slick his hair down, just so they could be the trio they were, with only their eye color to set them apart. He looked down at his clothes in a drunken haze and laughed at himself. Here he was, staring at some polo shirt, a hoodie, and a face cap, all paired with jeans. And then, a Nike Air. Hah! This was far from the Varden anyone knew and recognized. “Hello, handsome.” A woman materialized from nowhere, sliding her overly manicured fingers that would give Cardi a rub for her money, over his shirt. Uriel, his wolf, sneered at the woman, showing his displeasure at her and turning away from the sight, leaving Varden to himself. Varden couldn’t blame his wolf. He had also been against Eve, but had been forced to like her. And since the incident earlier, he had remained really quiet. Varden looked from the long fingers on his chest to the woman in front of him and cringed. Even if he was drunk and just wanted to get laid, it was not with this overblown Barbie doll, who looked like she was struggling with her extreme plastic proportions. Varden smiled awkwardly and released the bottle in his hand so he could swat her hand away from his body. “No, thank you.” He said irritably and turned away from her, hoping she would take a hint and just leave. The fact that he came to a club didn’t mean he had to have that. He could have just made a call, and he would be having a whole lot to choose from. But tonight was supposed to be different. So far, nobody had recognized him yet. A slight jab to his back, and then to his side, annoyed the s**t out of him, and thinking it was the woman with the long nails, he turned to face her, smoke coming out of his ears as he prepared to bite her head off, but was quickly s**t up as he saw what had jabbed him. Well, who. A woman, beautiful like a freaking fairytale princess, straightened herself as she appeared to have been pushed by someone. For the very first time since he had stepped into that apartment earlier, Varden felt his wolf show some excitement. “Oh, I’m very sorry. I was…” her voice trailed off as she looked up at him and their gazes met. “..hit by someone.” She completed slowly, pointing her fingers behind her and not breaking away from their locked gazes. From his peripheral view, he saw who it was that had hit her, disappearing with her wobbly proportions into the crowd. Yikes. Varden blinked and cleared his throat, suddenly feeling nervous. “It’s okay. You can have a sit.” He said, pointing to the seat next to him which was empty. The woman gave him a heavenly smile and nodded turning to the seat and situating herself on it. Fuck! Where had she come from? If he hadn’t seen Miss almighty plastic leave, he would have argued that his drunkenness had made him turn her into this beautiful woman now sitting next to him. Her dress was simple like she didn’t come clubbing, but she still looked breathtakingly beautiful. Too beautiful that it didn’t take him time to realize.. He wanted her. Uriel wanted her too..
