Gabrielle “Oh hey.” I came to an abrupt halt at the bottom on the stairs. Sarah’s head shot up, she was bent over stuffing her feet into her boots with harsh jerky movements. Her eyes were red rimmed and glassy even in the shadowy gloom of the hallway. “Hi.” She went back to lacing her boot. “You ok? I heard my drunken fool of a brother just now…” She trailed off. Numbly I shook my head. Unable to speak. “He asked me to leave.” I finally managed and my words got her attention. Her head snapped up. “As in leave his room or…..?” I shook my head. “Leave the club house. He had withdrawn his protection.” I gave what I hoped was a care free shrug. “He’s a class A dickwad. You can come home with me. I’m leaving as well. The quicker I get out of this town the better….” She trailed off and
