Angelica's POV
Life hasn't been easy since I left the pack and came to stay here in the human world. The Alpha sent a couple to watch over me who practically gave me a hard time every day. It kind of defeated the purpose of him making me leave the pack in the first place. If I was going to suffer, I'd rather suffer in my own home rather than feel like I'm walking on eggshells all the time, watching my back.
It's been 15 years since my banishment from the pack. The Alpha sure was perfect with his timing, it was my birthday and I had just seen a rogue drag both my parents away. How beautifully convenient is that? Since I was banished, I have been taken under the wing of my aunt and uncle who lived a few houses away from us, at first I thought they were nice... But as the years progressed, they inevitably became meaner. Ironically they also had a child a couple of years after they took me in. They treated her like a princess while I got scraps of that affection.
The thought occurred to me later in life that the Alpha may have asked these people to make sure I never step foot in that pack again.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when Harper's yelling busted my eardrums. I was waiting for the eggs to finish cooking. Yes, I guess this is one of my duties to them. I was their maid, I always have to drop everything to accommodate their needs. Even if I was in the middle of work, or school.
"You're still not done cooking? I'm gonna be late for school!" she grumbled.
"I'm almost done with the eggs. The rest of the food is on the table." I murmured.
I looked down at my little bowl of rice with a little salt sprinkled on top of it. I guess this is breakfast. Thank Goddess at least I get to eat something today. Once the eggs finished cooking, I placed them on their plates. I grabbed my little bowl and hurriedly finished my breakfast.
"What do you think you're doing?" Chloe, the aunt, asked.
"Just finishing breakfast..." I quietly said.
"What makes you think that you're actually allowed to do that?" she snickered.
"She thinks she can get away with anything just because it's her birthday." Harper rolled her eyes.
At least she remembered.
"What's there to celebrate? Your family died on the same day as your birthday." she spat.
"Well, you got her a crappy education so it's probably from that." Harper insisted. "That would be your fault since you only gave her that much."
"Should I just take yours away and give it to her?" she asked through gritted teeth.
"No, I'm sorry..." Harper muttered.
As soon as I finished my breakfast, I quietly washed my bowl and utensils.
"Thank you for the birthday wishes..." I said.
My tone apparently was a bit too sarcastic and the next thing I knew a bowl of rice landed at the back of my head. I hissed at the impact and rubbed the back of my head.
"Watch your tone with me, you brat!" she yelled.
I quietly muttered an apology and grabbed my bags and headed for the door. As soon as I opened the door, a strong rain suddenly came down. I slowly looked at the umbrellas on the side, and Henry, the uncle, suddenly boomed.
"I dare you to take an umbrella. I will strangle you until you turn blue, brat." he said.
I sighed heavily and grabbed my hoodie from my room. I slipped it above my head and pulled the hood over. When will a day be ever good? Like, just one day. It would be great. I sighed to myself as I look at the rain falling on the ground. It seems that everywhere I go, I can't seem to have the best of luck, as if I was born only to have these kinds of circumstances in my life. I took a deep breath and made my way to school, hopefully, later I would be able to go to the café to work. Lucky for me, Nikki is a friend of Chloe's.
The day ended pretty quickly. I was invisible to everybody including at work, I was kind of hoping to see Nate again. He and his brother made me feel so seen. I bought a small cake from the café and stuck a candle on the cake. I headed towards the pier and sat down. There weren't that many people since the sun has already set at this point. I placed the cake beside me and looked out into the vast water. The cool breeze hit my face, and I closed my eyes. There was still a slight drizzle, but I couldn't be bothered to shield my cake from the drizzle. I pulled out a lighter from my pocket and tried to light the candle and closed my eyes.
Please, Goddess, whether you exist or not. Whether it is you listening to my wishes or not, or if there is some divine being out there who is actually listening to me... Let there be someone out there for me who will see me. Like actually see me. I can't do this on my own anymore and I think I'm already way past my breaking point.
I took a deep breath and blew out my candle. All of a sudden the rain came pouring down hard. I slowly opened my eyes and pressed my lips in a thin line, I let my tears fall using the rain as camouflage to the tears.
A few minutes into my little breakdown, I suddenly felt the rain somewhat stop.
"What are you doing out here..." a deep voice asked.
That deep voice seemed familiar. I looked up and saw a black umbrella over my head. I turned my head and looked at the person standing behind me.
"Nate...?" I trailed off.
