Carter's POV
I sat in the living room restlessly next to my parents, all of us patiently waiting for Marlie to come downstairs. It wasn't like her to stay up in her room this long on a Saturday and it was making me uncomfortable. I knew my anxiety was showing, but I just couldn't help it, I couldn't stand for my sister to be mad at me. I shouldn't have told her about my mate at such a time, but she needed to know, maybe it will make her not leave to go to Alpha Damian's pack. It may sound selfish but I don't want her to go with him, he might not hurt her but she doesn't need the stress of living with all of his violence, I know that for a fact.
"Are you sure she is alright, honey?" My mother asked my father, a pleading look on her face. "It's already almost 1:00 and she didn't come down for breakfast or lunch."
"I'm going up to check on her, I can't wait any longer." I stood up and walked through the hallway towards the stairs, ignoring my father trying to tell me to wait. He may think that we should wait longer for her, but I can't just sit around having her be mad at me all day long.
I went to knock on her door and found it left open a crack, so instead, I slowly push it open, the hinges softly creaking. "Marlie?" I called out, getting no response. I walked into her room, seeing she was not in her bed, so I walked up to her closed bathroom door and knocked on it. "Marlie?" I spoke even louder, hoping she would hear me. After a minute of no reply, I opened the door, the fresh smell of the shower filled my nose, but she still wasn't there. I checked her closet and when I still didn't find her I jogged downstairs, back towards my parents.
"Did you find her?" My mother asked, standing to meet me.
"She isn't upstairs, I don't think she is in the house at all," I replied, looking at my father for help. "Do you think he came and took her?"
"His scent isn't around here at all, unless she went to meet him then there is no way he has her." He replied, taking a deep breath. "Jaime, stay in here in case she comes back, me and Carter are going to look outside." His eyes met mine, motioning for me to lead the way out the door.
We exited the house and I instantly caught her scent leading away from the front door. I followed my nose for a bit before I realized that it was leading me further into the packgrounds; further towards the other wolves. Spinning around, I slammed straight into my father's body, knocking me to the ground.
"You okay?" He offered his hand to help me get up and I accepted it graciously.
"She went towards the pack," I stated, turning my head in the direction that her scent led.
"I noticed." He paused to think. "You stay here with your mother so that I can mindlink you when I find her."
"Dad, please let me go. I can't stand her being mad at me anymore, I need to make things right." I pleaded, looking him in the eye with desperation. My father sighed and nodded his head, understanding where I was coming from. He turned to head back to the house, leaving me to be on my way.
I quickly ripped my clothes off and shifted into my wolf, Memphis, letting him take over. He instantly took off, holding his nose high following the trail. I watched through his eyes as he lead us further into the pack until we were coming up on the packhouse.
"Are you sure this is where she went?" I linked him anxiously.
"Positive, her scent leads straight towards the door too." Memphis's tone was unreadable and made me even more nervous. He let me take over and we shifted back into the human form quickly grabbing some shorts out of the stash kept outside the packhouse. Walking into the packhouse, I tried to catch her scent again but there were too many people walking around since lunch had just ended, so instead, I used my eyes and ears to try and locate my sister. I put on a smile and greeted everyone I walked past, searching whatever places that I thought my sister might go while trying to not look suspicious. I didn't want to cause any worry across the pack. After I searched the whole bottom floor and couldn't find her anywhere, I realized that meant if she was still at the packhouse, she must be on one of the ranked floors.
"Alpha," I mindlinked the Alpha, hoping he could help. "I'm sorry to bother you, but Marlie has gone missing and I think she is somewhere here in the packhouse."
"I'll be right down." He said before cutting off our link, leaving me pacing nervously.

Marlie's POV
Alpha Caleb led me back into the elevator and hit the button for the first floor while I anxiously played with my hands. I was scared Carter would be mad at me for not only leaving the house without saying anything but also going to the packhouse by myself. As the elevator doors opened I kept my head down, following Alpha Caleb out of them and towards the front of the packhouse.
"Marlie!" Carter exclaimed running up to me, pulling me in for a tight hug. "What the hell, sis?" Carter pushed me away, anger clouding his relief from finding me.
"Carter, I just needed some information. I have it now so let's just go home, please." I just pushed past him, walking towards the door. I was already stressed out and overwhelmed with the information on Damian, I really didn't need to deal with Carter yelling at me as well right now.
"I was with her the whole time, you don't have to worry, Carter." Alpha Caleb said, patting Carter's shoulder. I ignored them, continuing to walk towards the door until someone stopped me in my tracks.
"You're that girl from school." The Alpha's son stated, putting his hand in front of me to stop me. "What are you doing here?"
"She's my sister." Carter simply replied, standing by my side, ready to take me away if he felt I was threatened.
"Future Alpha," I half curtsied. "Pleasure to see you again." I bit my lip, hoping that I wouldn't be in trouble for not telling him who I was before.
"How come I didn't know you were in my pack?" He asked, stepping closer and tilting his head to one side.
"She has been a part of the pack since she was born, just prefers to keep away from the pack since, well, she didn't get the werewolf gene."
"I see." That was all he said before turning to walk away. Something about the way he left made me feel like he was mad at me for some reason.
"I am sorry for bumping into your friend," I spoke up, seeing him pause, but not turning around to look at me. "I really didn't mean to."
"It's fine." He mumbled before entering another room. I looked up at Carter and he just nodded his head once before leading me out, understanding that I just needed some time to decompress before talking. I was very thankful for the Alpha and his help in teaching me things about my mate, as well as I think he is one of the reasons Carter isn't pushing me to talk right now.
We make our way back to the house and I walk inside, instantly being grabbed into a hug by my mother. As I pulled away from her, I looked at my father who had a stern look on his face and I knew he was upset with me.
"Where were you?" His voice was laced with anger, a slight hint of concern flashing across his features.
"I was with Alpha Caleb," I replied, trying to sound confident and not show any weakness. If there is anything I know about werewolves, it's that they love to prey on fear and weakness.
"What were you doing with him?" He asked, barely giving me a chance to get my words out of my mouth.
"He was giving me more information," I paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. "On Damian."
"Why were you looking for information about him?" My dad asked, a growl reverberating from his chest loudly.
"I wanted to know more information about him because he is my mate and you can't change that. You may think he is a bad person, but maybe that doesn't mean anything to me. If I choose to be with him there is nothing you can do to change that." I shouted, anger enveloping me quickly. "If you continue to try to control me then you can consider yourself out of my life!" I pushed between my mother and father, storming up to my room. That's the second time in the last 24 hours that I have stormed out on my family, what is going on with me? Is having Damian as my mate really messing me up this bad to make me act out like this?

The next day traveled by in a blur; Damian didn't call me again but I still believed that he was going to pick me up so I packed a bag and spent most of the day in my room, avoiding my parents. Carter came to check on me every few hours and bring me my meals, but he knew I needed space and made sure to not overstay his welcome, which I was glad for. I had no idea how to tell him or my parents about Damian taking me to his pack, so I hadn't said anything about it at all. Hopefully, when the time comes they won't be too upset with Damian, last thing I need is for him to prove them right by hurting my family.
I woke up after what felt like a week-long weekend and start getting ready for school. A quick shower and change of clothes is all I needed to do before I headed downstairs to get breakfast. I was worried that I would get bombarded with questions, but instead, everyone ate in a comfortable silence that I was very grateful for. After I finished eating, I carried mine and Carter's plates and put them in the dishwasher, heading upstairs to finish getting ready. All I needed to do was brush my teeth and hair so I was done quickly and found myself back downstairs within five minutes. I started to walk towards the front door but froze in my tracks as I saw my dad standing at the front door, a familiar figure hovering over him.
"Damian?" I gasped, hurrying up to stand next to my father, hoping he hadn't said or done anything rash. "What are you doing here?"
"I told you I would be picking you up today to take you home." He replied, reaching out to grab my hand.
"What about school?" I asked, taking a step back out of his reach, looking at my dad who had nothing but fear covering his face. I never saw my dad scared before, so that alone caused me to slightly shake with worry.
"I will arrange for you to finish the year online," Damian grumbled, getting impatient with me. "Let's go."
"Let me just go get my bag." I hurried back upstairs and grabbed the bag I had packed, taking a deep breath before descending the flight of steps again. This really is happening.
"Marlie.." Carter came up to me and looked into my eyes, seeming concerned.
"It's okay Carter, I will be okay." I hugged Carter tightly. "I promise. I'll call you when I get the chance." I headed towards Damian who quickly pulled me into his arms and started pulling me towards his car without even glancing back towards my family. He led me towards the back door and opened it for me, letting me climb in before he walked around to the other side and got in across from me, pulling me close to him.
"Take us home, Ian." He said and the driver started the car, pulling out of the driveway, signaling the start of my new life.
