Jaxon met us at the door to put my cloak on me, giving me a passionate, but chaste kiss before he stripped naked at the door.
My eyes flared, seeing him grin at me unphased. "See you after your adventure," he ducked and kissed my blushing face, chuckling before turning and Shifted into a large black Wolf.
Jace laughed at me, "He's going to meet the visiting Alpha on the Pack boarder before they come back to the town for their official meeting. Shifting here is easier," he explained, pulling me out the door and closing it behind him.
"Why are they meeting on the boarder first?" I asked, curious as Jace took my hand again, guiding me as he spoke.
"With humans aware of Werewolves in the area, Jax is taking extra precautions." He noticed the twist in my mouth and slow in my step.
I'd brought this need for precautions.
Jace stopped in front of me, cupping my cheeks to make me look up at his shining grey eyes, his hair braided back, but strands still fell around his forehead and cheeks. "Don't blame yourself," he said quietly, pressing his forehead against mine and inhaled my scent, Zena telling me to do the same.
I did, leaning slightly press my nose against the side of his cheek, his wonderful scent calming me. He tilted my chin up, his lips pressing to mine.
I felt the pressure of a mind-link, my mind opening instantly at the feeling of Jace's warmth.
You found us. You're home now. He soothed, Jaxon's presence pressing into the link, like he was caressing the back of my hair with his palm in a loving pat.
I'll be okay, little one. Jax promised. Nothing out here but big Wolves and tiny rabbits.
Zena pushed into the mind-link, surprising me when her voice echoed. Rabbit! Is rabbit tasty? She asked quickly, her voice piqued with excitement and curiosity.
I chuckled. I'm not sure.
Jace smiled at me, pulling away from our kiss and breaking the mind-link. "We can get some from the butcher on the way home," he grinned, grabbing my hand again and pulled me behind him. "For now, no more worrying! It's adventure time!" He declared, raising his other hand and pointing his index into the air.
I giggled, dancing to stand beside him. "Lead the way, Alpha!" I grinned back and he squeezed my hand, giving me a loving but dark eyed look.
Zena giggled in my head, seeing Jace's Wolf.
After a short walk, Jace led me to a large Jeep just down the hill, helping me climb in and let me pick the music as he drove.
"I didn't think the town was big enough to need a car," I noted as we pulled out of the small driveway and into a dirt road of lined trees.
Jace chuckled, reaching across to take my hand. "What you see from the hill is just the Omega Hub, it's our main business and some of the housing." He gestured to a paved road as we passed it, gated and surrounded by a wall of stone. "That's the Packhouse, besides our den, it's the most secure place and where all the unmated Wolves live over the age of eighteen."
I rose a brow. "How come eighteen?"
He shrugged, focusing on driving while his thumb stroked my hand absently. "Eighteen is when most Werewolves Shift for the first time, so they usually want to find their mate and begin their jobs in the Pack," he explained, "living in the Packhouse there is a higher chance of doing both. Delta's and Gamma's join us on escorts to other Packs, Omega's who work in the house are often who handle all guests we have."
"Oh," I said. "I guess that makes sense," I shrugged then, smiling at Jace. "So, what else is in town?"
He chuckled, bringing my hand up to his lips and kissed my knuckles. "We're almost there." We drove a few minutes more through the picturesque tree lined canopy, turning to a solid road and a quaint town spread out before us.
Jace pointed out small cafe's, bookstores, restaurants, grocery stores and the Omega neighbour nestled between, pulling into a large carpark and shopping mall that curved around the mountain.
He smiled at my confused expression, not expecting such a modern 'human' feature.
"We may be Wolves, but we still enjoy a bit of modernism." He teased, making me blush.
Jace led me to a few different shops, piling up comfortable, and sometimes revealing, clothing into a cart he'd grabbed at some point.
Zena was snoring lightly in my head by midday, exhausted from all the excitement as we made our way to another clothing store, my confidence and excitement bubbling in laughter as Jace held up an incredibly ugly sweater, grinning.
"If you bought this for Jax, he'd wear it." I laughed, tilting my head at it and pouted.
"I don't think it's ugly enough." I noted, finding another one in the pile of Christmas and winter sweaters we'd become distracted by.
I held it up to Jace's chest, his brow raising as he looked down at it, only to burst into laughter at the sight of the reindeer nose that flashed when pressed.
"You are not making me wear this!" He laughed, pushing it away from his chest.
I giggled, ducking his arms and kept it against him, looking over it with a considering expression. "If we get matching pants-"
His eyes widened and he snatched the jumper, wrapping his arm around me to pin me against him. "Don't even finish that cruel little thought." He growled playfully, smirking at my blushing face.
I fluttered my lashes at me, pouting slightly as I dipped my voice to a small whine, knowing it enticed him. "I'm sorry, Alpha."
He growled, tugging me against him harder and his lips met mine, a dominating kiss that make me whimper against him.
He pulled back smiling. "Now, find a sweater you like, Sweetheart." He instructed, letting me go.
I obeyed, enjoying know his eyes were pinned on me, watching as I moved around and chose.
I giggled after a few minutes of searching as I held up matching sweaters, excitement sparkling in my eyes. "Oh, Jace, look! These would be perfect for us!" They weren't hideous, dark red sweaters with black runes and whirls across the arms and chests.
Something about them made me adore them.
Jace chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You want us to match, huh?"
I nodded, already imagining the three of us wearing them. "Yes! It'll be adorable!" I hesitated then, looking up at him. "We don't have to though,"
Jace smiled, taking the sweaters from me. "Oh no," he said with a small chuckle. "My mate wants, my mate gets." He added them to the pile he already made in a cart, turning his head slightly across the large store as if hearing something.
"I need to go talk to some of the Omegas about a project. Is that okay?" He looked down at me for a moment, his expression soft and waiting. I smiled, knowing that he wouldn't leave if I said no....or just pretended I didn't hear it.
I smiled and nodded, giving him a quick kiss. "I want to find ugly ones." I beamed at him, he laughed, kissing me again.
"As long as Jax's is uglier than mine."
"I promise to pick the worst for him." I smiled, he stroked my cheek lovingly as he chuckled and walked off with the cart, the sweaters draped over his arm.
I found the sweaters I deemed ugliest alive, smiling at them mostly excited to see the look of hatred Jaxon would have when I asked him to wear it.
I giggled to myself as I followed Jace's scent through the store and found him chatting with a small group of Omegas - three women and two lean men who looked like brothers- I noticed Lyra amongst them, but she wasn't engaged in the conversation, more ease dropping.
Or trying to get close to Jace.
Zena opened her eyes, snarling in my mind. I don't like her. She hissed with venom.
A small snarl of agreeance rippled my throat as I made my way across the floor, stopping it by using Jace's scent to calm me.
Lyra's eyes narrowed as she noticed my approach, her gaze flicking to me with disdain. Jace, sensing my presence, turned and smiled, his eyes warming.
"Hey, baby. Come meet everyone," he said, his arm wrapping possessively around my waist. "This is Pheobe, Trinity and Kim, they run the few shops I pointed out today," I nodded, smiling at them. Phoebe owned the cafe, Trinity was a bookstore owner and Kim owned the grocery store.
"Ladies, this is Melody," Jace smiled, an edge of pride in his voice that made me blush.
The women bowed their heads to me, smiling.
Jace gestured to the two men behind them. "This is Cale and Flynn, they run the farm just outside of town."
I perked at that. "What kind of farm?"
Cale, taller and his skin darker than Flynn's, smiled, scratching the back of his head. "Dairy and meat farm, mostly." He grinned, a twinge of a southern accent that reminded me of home.
"I grew up on a dairy farm." I smiled. "I did the vet work for a bit on my family's."
Cale and Flynn beamed at me. "You're a vet?" They asked as one, making me blink but giggle.
I shrugged. "Sorta, I didn't finish my degree."
Flynn shook his head. "As long as you know more than him," he gestured to Jace with a smirk, Jace flipped him the bird with a smile. "You'll do just fine, little Luna."
I smiled, feeling a sense of belonging. "I'm not sure why I keep being called Luna, but I do know the difference between long pig and swine." I beamed.
Jace choked on laughter, squeezing me to him as the other laughed.
Phoebe gave me a sweet smile. "As the mate of Alpha's, your title is Luna amongst the Pack." She explained simply, patting my hand.
"Oh," I thought for a moment then shrugged. "I'm fine with Melody, but if it's tradition." Jace kissed my hair, chuckling.
"They won't give you a choice, trust me." He grumbled. The Omega's smiled at him
He fell into a conversation with them about a carnival coming up for the Red Moon Parade, holding me against him as I listened, intrigued by the event.
Like a human carnival of games, stalls and entertainment, only it was fitted with Lycan traditions and a grand feast to be held with the Pack under the moon.
Cale and Flynn had needed a vet to come in from out of town to check the cattle and help with general vaccinations, the She-Wolves required his permission for floats, town decoration and an idea of the events to be held through the day.
I was excited listening, but Lyra's gaze made me uncomfortable.
Jace seemed to sense it, his eyes flashing with annoyance.
"Lyra, I didn't know you were involved in this project," he said, his tone cool.
Lyra shrugged, her smile saccharine. "I'm happy to help, Jace. After all, I'm always eager to assist our Alpha pair. You know that," she bit down on her bottom lip, a ripple of anger going through me at the attempt at seduction towards Jace.
Jace's grip on me tightened, his possessiveness clear. My anger continued to grow.
Zena rose, a haze taking over my eyes as I felt myself losing control.
