The sound of snarling pulled me out of the darkness, fear pitching my heart and I was suddenly on my knees, scanning the open lounge room with a blurred vision.
Shadows of Wolves moved to my left, violent snarling and snapping forcing me right and scrambling to the nearest door. I yanked it open, finding it to be a pantry of some kind. I slammed the door closed, holding the handle and a sob broke out of me as the fighting raged beyond it.
After a few moments, the house went silent, the sound of heavy breathing and aggravated snarling filling the air for a moment before footsteps ran to the door I held closed.
Someone tried to turn the handle, making me scream in fear and fall back.
The handle stopped, silence deafening me for a moment before a voice called my name.
"Melody, baby?" Jace's voice whined, muffled by the door.
"It's us, little one," Jaxon added, his voice soft and reassuring. "Come out, baby. Please?" The beg tore my heart and I turned the handle.
I peeked out to see Jaxon and Jace standing a foot away, giving me space, their faces etched with worry. Jaxon only wore a pair of sweatpants, but Jace had a sleeveless hoodie and trackpants on, there was a bit of blood on both of them that made me whine.
"It's okay," Jaxon said, opening his arms and lowering to my eye level in a crouch. "Come here, baby." He commanded softly.
I gave a sob of relief, trying to run to them.
I yelped, my ankle buckling and Jaxon lunged, catching me before I could hit the floor and cradled me. Jace was beside him, his hands searching over my body, finding the injury on my leg.
I whimpered in pain as he touched it, snarling. Jaxon stood and carried me to the kitchen, setting me on the marble centre island.
"Sit back, baby." He instructed gently, helping me move back to lay my leg straight.
Jace tore the fabric of the pants, exposing the extent of the punctures and claw marks that ran from my knee to ankle, my blood pouring.
I hissed with pain as Jace probed the area gently, both my mates wincing at the noise as they moved around.
Jace grabbed a black bag from under the sink, Jaxon going through a doorway beside the fridge, out of sight.
"I'm just in the laundry," he called, comforting me, as panic rose needing to see him. I heard water running as Jace laid the bag next to me, unzipping it and Jaxon returned, a damp cloth in his hand.
His brows tilted in apology as he stepped to one side of my leg, Jace on the other.
"We have to clean and mend it," he explained softly. "Some of it needs stitches."
I nodded, bracing my hands beside me on the counter and tried to lift my leg slightly as Jaxon started to wipe the wounds with an incredibly gentle touch.
I bit back my noises of pain as best I could, only squeaking or flinching when he touched a badly torn cut or punctured.
"We're sorry," Jace whispered, his voice torn with pain as he squeezed a clear liquid into my wounds. "We should have protected you better." His jaw clenched as I whimpered in pain.
I shook my head. "You did. Twice."
Jaxon cupped my cheek, giving me a tight smile. "You were still harmed."
I grabbed his wrist, holding his hand against me and nuzzled it, inhaling his scent. "Are you harmed?" I asked looking between them, concern twisting my face.
Jace smirked, tugged on the collar of his tshirt, showing me a small cut across his collarbone, already healed. "Barely scratched us, baby."
Relief flooded me and I couldn't stop the tears, turning my face into Jaxon's hand. "I'm sorry." They both hushed me, telling me it wasn't my fault.
My Heat was alluring to unmated males, being so close to the full moon, some of the younger ones had lost control.
They tended to me, soothing me and mind-linked - a mental communication with other Werewolves - some of the Pack member, needing them to remove the ones unconcious around the house.
By the time Jace was setting up to start stitching, a gentle knock sounded at the door.
Jaxon rubbed my back reassuringly, looking down at me with a gentle expression. "I've called a few mated males and our female doctors, is that okay?"
I faltered for a moment, unsure why he was asking, but the look in his eyes told me he was trying to make sure I was okay.
I nodded, reaching for his hand when I saw Jace preparing a numbing needle.
I paled slightly, looking up at Jaxon, hesitating.
"Will you hold my hand?" My voice came out small, Jaxon's expression twisting as he grabbed my hand, interlacing our fingers and sat on the counter, wrapping his other arm around my waist to pull me against him.
"Don't like needles, huh?" Jace asked, a teasing smirk on his lips that soothed me.
I shook my head. "Stitches," I muttered. Jace gave me a gentle smile in reassurance.
He pulled out another small vial. "I can give you a sedative?" I shook my head, tucking in closer to Jaxon.
"No, I'll be okay if you do it." I said, my voice sincere. Jace gave me a loving smile, nodding and scooted closer, leaning over my leg and braced it with his hand, his warm and tingling touch overriding the sting of the needle.
Jaxon squeezed me gently, calling in the Wolves at the door.
The room filled with the Pack members, Thane, the mated Beta with two other mated males, Delta's, and four Omega women.
Two Pack doctors and the Shaman She-Wolf named Elara stepped to me, crowding me with sweet smiles and caring eyes as they greeted me.
The Doctors watched over what Jace was doing, him growling at them when one tried to take over the stitching.
Elara handed me a small tub of cream, smiling. "This will help with your Heat, sweetie." She said softly to me, showing me to apply some to my wrists and near my belly button. "It should dull the smell as well, but I'll have some other things prepared for you to ensure your safety."
I frowned. "My smell makes....unmated go.."I faltered.
She smiled. "It's quite strong, I must admit. But, we have ways to help and it's not often these things occur." She gestured to some of the unconcious men.
She wore a colourful, warm looking shawl across her body, covering the thick velvet dress adorned with crystals and stones, runes stitched into the leather headband across her curly chestnut hair, similar to mine.
She was maybe a few years older than me, giving me a kind smile when I sighed in relief, my heat pains and scent dulling.
"Thank you," I whispered, trying my best to smile at her. She stroked my hair, seeming to notice something as she did.
"You are not Pack born?" She asked, her voice peaked with curiousity, watching me with dark green eyes.
I ducked my eyes, shaking my head.
Jaxon's eyes pinned me, seeing my nervousness. "Elara," he clipped, causing the Sharman to pull her hands away from me clasped in front of her, backing up a step and looked at him.
He glared at her, a mind-link clouding both their eyes.
He nodded once, turning back to focus on Jace finishing with my stitches and he took over bandaging me.
I noticed the another woman who wasn't introduced, speaking to the Beta and the Delta's who took out an unconcious body each.
I heard one greet her, calling her Lyra.
Elara drew my attention, asking an odd question. "A pastor is obsessed with you?"
I blinked at her. "Um..." I faltered, unsure how to answer. "I guess?"
I heard Jace chuckle at me, my eyes flicking to him to see him hide it as he talked to Jaxon.
Lyra hovered between them, seeming to be watching them check my bandages and speak with the Doctors.
Elara touched my arm, making me flinch and look at her in surprise.
Her eyes were glazed, not in the way of a mind-link, an odd sheen in her eyes.
I tilted my head, curious.
Her mouth twitched in a smirk. "I see visions, sweet one." She said, she voice echoing in an otherworldly way, making me shiver but something about it was incredibly soothing.
I relaxed, watching her. "What kind of visions?" I asked in a whisper, hoping I wouldn't disturb her.
She smiled, her eyes regaining their shine as she focused on me. "Past, present and futures of those I touch."
My eyes fell to her hand on my arm. "You saw a vision of me?"
She squeezed my arm gently. "Only enough to know about the human pastor chasing you because of some foolish fear." She smiled at me when I met her eyes, awed. "You will fit in well, little human-born." She teased, making me blush but I smiled, feeling comfort in her friendly demeanor and attempts to befriend me.
One of the Doctors, Akira checked the rest of me over with Jace and Jaxon watching, the other Doctor, Mabel, leaving to assist the unconcious Pack members, now moved out of the house, somewhere else. They told me my Heat seemed abnormally strong, the scent spreading much further than it should but as long is it didn't get stronger and the balm helped, I'd be okay.
Lyra stayed close to my mates, making me feel a swell of emotions, seeing her reach up and touch Jaxon's bicep.
He moved away, seeming to have not noticed her touch, only my hurt expression.
"Baby?" He questioned, cupping my cheek and stroking my hair behind my ear. "Are you in pain?"
I was going to shake my head, but besides my body, my ankle and leg did hurt.
I tried to move it and hissed.
Jace smirked, huffing a small laugh. "That's a yes." He turned his back to Lyra, her hand falling away from where she was touching him on his waist, almost like she was trying to see around him.
I could smell it was different, something about her scent and the way she moved around them, trying to flirt and gain their notice.
Akira handed me some pills, telling me they were painkillers.
Jaxon got me a glass of water to take them with.
"House is secured." Thane called from the front door, Elara beside him smiling.
"Have a good sleep Alphas," they bowed their heads at Jaxon and Jace, both returning it and the Delta's followed, closing the door behind them.
"We need to get you comfortable, Melody," Jaxon said, his voice soft.
Jace added, "You need sleep, baby girl." He smirked, pressing his nose against mine and cooed, "we'll cuddle all night." He promised in a loving tone.
I giggled, excited by the thought, nuzzling him before I realised I was doing it.
He cupped my cheeks, chuckling and pecked my lips with a gentle kiss. "Come on, little one."
Lyra's eyes narrowed, her gaze fixed on me with a mixture of curiosity and.....I think jealousy?
Jaxon and Jace didn't even acknowledge her presence, their attention on me as Jace pulled me into his arms, cradling me across his chest.
Jaxon turned to the doctors. "You're all dismissed, thank you for helping." His gaze faltered on Lyra as the others moved to leave and Jace turned with me, heading up the stairs.
I heard Jaxon growl. "Get out," his tone low and deadly.
Lyra giggled and something inside of me twisted with fury, wanting to snarl and bare my teeth in possession.
Jace stopped on the stairs, holding me close, sensing my rage.
