Chapter 8: Letting Go

I signed off on my mother's mating with Prince Fitz, she decided to do it although I told her she didn't have to, however, she knew an alliance with them would be best for us. I am also waiting for Lamira to meet with me, I will have her mate Malric, he had already agreed and I wanted her to hear it from me first. Eva was right, I was holding Lamira back, doing this will give her the push she needs to move on with someone I trust and will take care of her. I will provide them with the property as a wedding gift and the title of duke and duchess in the court, it will benefit her and Zack, giving him more claim to my throne. I smelled her by the door and I smiled, I turned around to see her beautiful face and blushed, I asked her to come and sit while she smiled and said, "Zack has a tournament today."

We talked about Zack, she loved him as much as I did, my heart skipped a beat and I cleared my throat, I showed her the decree and she asked, "What's this?" She read it and said, "I can't do this. Emile, please don't make me," I asked, "Is there something wrong with, Malric?" She smiled and said, "No, it's just that I don't need anyone, I can take care of myself," I said, "I know you can take care of yourself, I want you to be with someone who will be a good mate to you." I saw a loose tear and asked, "What is it?" She swallowed and said, "I love someone else," I was excited and asked, "Who is it?" She smiled and said, "He loves someone else, so it doesn't matter," she took the pen, signed the degree, and got up to leave. I took the degree and mind-linked Malric, "It's a go, she signed, you can mate her but check on her," I felt uneasy thinking about her mating someone else but I loved Eva.

I was heading over to have lunch with Eva and Zack before the tournament, and Malric linked me and said, "She wants it done privately today, will you do it?" I said, "After the tournament, "She linked me and asked, "Can you do it now before I catch cold feet?" So, I turned around, getting the contract and the knife, my heart filled with dread, wondering if I was doing the right thing. I went to the marriage hall and had an Elder join me, so this would be legit, I saw her walk in with Malric behind her, she was crying and I linked her, "Are you sure about this?" She said, "Yes, it's the best thing for me and any future my son will have," I nodded for them to get into places, the ritual began as they cut their hands and mixed their blood saying their vows, she held a brave face and then after that, we gave them their titles and property, I will introduce them in court at a later date.

I congratulated them and signed the contracts before giving them to the Elder to file, I told them, "You have time to complete the mating process before the tournament." Malric bowed and smiled, he held her hand and I saw her tense up before smiling and turning to leave. I felt a little more relieved but I wasn't sure if I had done the right thing, I was letting her go finally and focusing on Eva, Eva should be my priority and it was time I made her my Queen. I headed back to lunch and saw her waiting still but Zack had eaten and left, I kissed her lips apologizing and giving her the good news of Lamira's mating. Eva hugged me glad that I took her advice, I took her into the bed chambers because we had time to spend together before the tournament. We lay in bed after our hot session and my mind wondered about Lamira, was she letting Malric touch her? I closed my eyes getting those thoughts out of my head, that's her mate now and I need to move on.

I felt a sense of dread knowing this was truly it for us, I needed to do as he said, move on, and make a future for my son, he was my priority. Eva slapped me and showed me where I stood in Emile's life, I was just his son's mother, my heart hurt deeply for ten years and I felt like I was drowning. I was married now and there was nothing I could do but put my heart in a solid jar unable to be hurt again. Malric took me to his chambers in the Palace, I guess we will be staying here for a while since we have titles, I was deep in thought when I felt the bed dip, it was my husband. I tried not to look at him, he was naked and held my hand, I had the covers pulled to my neck because I needed to get this over with but I couldn't bear anyone besides Emile on top of me. Emile smiled and offered his congratulations again, Eva looked at me coldly and I smiled turning away, she held Emile's hand and rested her head on his shoulder. I knew that look, she was letting me know that she had won, my stomach was in knots because I shouldn't still care, I was mated to Malric who proved he was a good guy when he was assigned to protect me. He was also a friend who talked to me when I needed it and understood the position that I was in. I didn't think he would agree to this but he was loyal to Emile and would do anything he asked. The tournament began and the crowd was hyped up, Emile and his brothers cheered on Zack, he was doing great and I was so proud of him, I knew my father would have been proud.

I succeeded in getting Emile to mate Lamira off to Malric, he was loyal so he would do what Emile asked, I had the feeling she still loved him. I didn't want her to pull him back in so I had to get rid of her the best way I knew how, I looked at the ring on my finger he had specially made and I smiled in excitement, he was ready to let go and move on from her. I couldn't wait to announce our engagement late tonight at dinner. I went to the tournament and congratulated my stepson when he won, we were all happy, I saw her hug Zack and she looked like she was crying, I saw her mark and I felt good she was not going to be a problem for us. Later, I walked down to diner with Emile, he kissed my lips before we entered the dining hall and everyone was seated. We congratulated Zack again and I saw Queen Evangeline with her mate, Prince Fitz, in attendance.

The dining hall was filled with laughter and conversations around us, Levi talked about the trip he had returned from, and Mendai was conversing with his teenage son, Prince Dai. Jared was talking with Malric as they were close friends, I saw Lamira barely touching her food, and I linked her, "I see you're not hungry, what could be bothering you so?" She said, "Nothing, Lady Eva, I am just not in the mood for talks." I said, "Congrats on your mating, and I hope you enjoy the mated life," she said, "Just leave me alone, you won," I said, "I will since we are here to announce our engagement." She looked at me shocked and paused moving the fork around in disbelief, I saw her tears pooled in her eyes. I was about to rub it in when Emile said, "I have an announcement to make, I want you all to know, that I am finally making Eva my Queen."

The hall broke out in cheers and whistles, I smiled as he held my hand, and Emile pulled me into a kiss. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Lamira holding her head down before getting up and running out. I didn't care once she knew there was no reconciliation for her and Emile. Malric excused himself to check on Lamira, I saw Emile staring in the direction where she ran, his eyes clouded over, he was mind-linking someone before I pulled his hand. He looked at me and smiled saying, "It's business, love," before he kissed my lips again. However, the mood changed, he got quiet and I saw the worry on his face, he was worried about Lamira. I hated that she still had a hold on him and promised to get her out of his heart for good.
