“What is it?”
Syd sat back on the bed and drew his foot up on his bended knee. “I think I stepped on something.”
“You’re bleeding! What the f**k?” Rudi bent down to see if he could find what Syd had stepped on.
“Hey, be careful.” Syd groaned. “Oh, man, it’s pretty deep. Get me a wet rag, please.”
At the sight of the long rusty nail on the floor covered with Syd’s blood, Rudi’s heart dropped into his stomach. “How did this get in here?” he said, under his breath. He quickly rose to his feet, went to fetch a wet rag and some tissue, and returned to Syd. “Here, press it on there hard.” Then he bent do pick up the nail with the tissue, careful not to touch it. “Syd, you stepped on this.”
