Chapter #6 - The Silver Falls Pack

2678 Words
Hunter’s POV I meet Jonathon and Avery at the training grounds with our head trainer, Brock. “How is our future Luna doing?” Brock asks me. “I don’t know. I haven’t seen her since early this morning when we got home.” I shrug and fold my arms across my chest. “I see… sorry to pry.” He lowers his head momentarily and then barks some orders at my warriors. “No worries, Brock. Thank you for asking.” I slap a hand on his shoulder and he gives an understanding nod. I watch him jog over to the rest of the wolves as he commands they do a ten mile run and then two hundred push-ups and two hundred burpees. Wolves are naturally much stronger and faster than humans. We can withstand ten times more than the average human when it comes to weight and endurance, so our training is always really intense in comparison. “Did you manage to sleep at all?” Jonathon asks me. “Nope.” I reply, annunciating the ‘p’. “I think I got like forty-five minutes.” He chuckles. “Maybe I’ll squeeze in a nap later.” “Damn I want to nap!” Avery says in a complaining tone. “f**k Brock and his training sessions! I’m way too tired for this shit.” “Say that to his face and you’ll be ordered to do burpees until sundown.” I chuckle. “I’d like to see that.” Jonathon joins me in the laughter and Avery flips us off as he joins the warriors. “I hope the next few hours go by fast. I’m impatient for her to wake up.” I admit to Jonathon. “I get it. When I find my mate, I know I’ll be just as bad.” He says sympathetically with a slap on the shoulder. He starts to walk away and I stop him. “No napping later by the way. We need to discuss those bloodsuckers, remember?” “Yes, Alpha.” “Inform Avery and Brock of a meeting in my office after breakfast.” He nods and leaves me standing alone with my thoughts. I try to shake Cami from my mind and focus on training for the next two hours. Much to my displeasure I can’t stop thinking about her and the training session crawls by. Cami’s POV I slowly open my eyes and stretch out my body. The bed is bigger than I remember and I shoot up suddenly. It takes me a few seconds to realize I’m not at home in my condo, but in a guest room at the ‘pack house’. Everything hits me at once again and I press a couple fingers to my temple to massage away a small headache that lingers. I glance to my right at the clock beside the bed. It’s almost 10am?! I quickly hop out of bed. I wonder what time breakfast was supposed to be at…? I probably missed it! I could’ve easily slept longer too considering how tired I still am but I’m not going to waste away the day. I head straight to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. Even though there’s a brand new toothbrush in the drawer, I decide to use the one I brought from home anyways. I don’t bother going through the trouble of doing my hair and instead just toss it up into a messy bun. When I’m done in the bathroom, I walk into the closet and my jaw drops as if I’m seeing it for the first time. I was so tired I didn’t pay close enough attention last night but it is FULLY stocked. Everything still has the tags on them too. I grab a thong and bra from one of the little drawers in the closet. Afterwards, I go straight for the denim that I see hanging along the bottom bar. I pull off a pair of light wash skinny jeans. I step out of my pjs and slip into the jeans. Was Larissa stalking me too cause these surprisingly fit perfectly! Next I flip through some tops and grab a black fitted v-neck t-shirt. I’m not one for snazzy clothing garments so this is right up my ally. I slide into a pair of the slippers sitting at the bottom of the closet and ring the doorbell by the door. Within minutes, Larissa appears with a big smile on her face. “Good morning! Are you well rested?” “As well as I could be I guess.” I warmly smile back at her. “Great. Well breakfast was at seven, but I made sure to leave lots of leftovers for you! I had a feeling you wouldn’t make it down that early.” She winks. “Sorry about that… if I had known-“ “Nonsense, hun! Sleep as long as you like!” “Thanks…” “Before we go down… how are you feeling this morning overall?” She steps closer and takes both my hands in hers. “Umm… I don’t know. I know I have a lot more questions. Weirdly enough though I feel like I’m adapting well to my circumstances.” “You are indeed. You’re a tough girl!” She flashes me a big friendly smile. I don’t know what it is about her but I feel so comfortable and safe. I hope I can go home soon though. Not because I necessarily want to leave this place yet, but because I need to talk to Shyla, and my mom, and check up on my condo. I can’t just drop off the face of the earth and disappear into a fantasy tv show. “Well then, shall we?” She motions to the door. “Mhmm…” I nod. I’m nervous as we make our way down the stairs to the main floor. I didn’t get to see the main floor very well yesterday and I’m flabbergasted as we step off the bottom stair and enter the common areas of the pack house. Right at the bottom of the double staircase is a giant dining table, seated for at least thirty people. I’ve never seen anything like it before! To the left of that is an enormous kitchen, like something out of a movie. It’s has two gigantic islands in the middle, probably both eight feet long. There are three stoves on the back wall and to the right of the stoves are three humongous fridges. I could easily fit two of me in one of them. Across from the fridges is a wall of lower cabinets and above it are large windows that overlook the backyard. There are two big sinks along that wall with multiple dishwashers as well. My shock is clearing showing on my face because Larissa starts laughing at me, and I consciously close my jaw. “I know… it’s a large kitchen. But when you have a pack of over 1,500 wolves and about twenty people living in the pack house, it’s very needed.” “Over 1,500?!” I blurt. “Yes. Our territory is about 40,000 acres. It used to be bigger until Hunter sold some of the property. We’re called the Silver Falls Pack.” “Wow…” is all I manage to say. I look to the right of the dining room and see the largest living room I’ve ever laid eyes on. It has four separate seating areas, laid out like a grid. There’s a giant fireplace in the centre on the back wall and a wood storage space beside it. The sofa’s are all black and nicely decorated with some white and brown cushions. There a few brown leather chaise lounge’s and industrial coffee tables with side tables to match. Above us hangs another grand chandelier. I’m blown away and lost in my thoughts when a hear a few men’s voices coming from the stairwell. I glance at Larissa and all she does is smile and head to the kitchen. I’m not sure whether to follow her or not but my thought process is cut off when I turn to the stairs and make eye contact with Hunter. My breath catches in my throat as I stare at the gorgeous man before me. He has to be at least six feet four inches. His wavy blonde hair and blue eyes are out of this world. My eyes shyly travel down his body. He’s muscular and toned. I can tell from even overtop of his clothes. He’s wearing a white v-neck t-shirt with a flannel overtop. He has black jeans and a belt on with timberland boots too. For a man he’s extremely stylish. He’s exactly my type actually. I suddenly feel like I’m staring too long as I shake my head slightly. “Good morning.” He smiles shyly at me from a few feet away. “Morning.” I flash a small smile back. Things are extremely awkward and silent when Larissa finally emerges from the kitchen with two other women behind her. “Here, hun. Breakfast.” She places a cups of tea and orange juice on the dining table and the women behind her put down two giant trays of breakfast foods. There’s eggs, bacon, toast, sausages, French toast and many, many toppings. “Now that’s what I’m talking about!” One of the men behind Hunter saunters over to the table but Larissa slaps his hand away just before he can snatch a piece of bacon. “Not you!” She shouts. “This is for Cami!” “Oh. I’m sorry, Lu- I mean, Cami.” He quickly apologizes. “It’s alright.” I shrug it off. “Well then, I have to attend to some meetings about the banquet tonight. I will see you later, Cami. If you have any questions or need me, just let one of the staff members know.” She smiles and then just like that, leaves me. Now it’s just me, Hunter, Jonathon and the other guy that I haven’t been introduced to yet. “Oh, I’m sorry.” Hunter shakes his head bashfully. “This is Avery. He’s my Gamma.” He motions to the bacon snatcher. Avery has shaggy brunette hair and light blue eyes. His features are sharp and chiselled, much like all the men around here. Is this some sort of modelling agency because I swear they’re all super attractive! “Gamma?” I suddenly ask. “My mom told you about the Alpha, right?” Hunter asks me. “Yes… you’re the Alpha, right?” I ask slowly. “Yes, right. Well an Alpha has a Beta and a Gamma. They work as my right-hand men. My Beta, Jonathon, who you met yesterday…” Jonathon gives me a small wave and I return the gesture. “…he’s my second in command. He takes care of things like scheduling meetings, trainings and outings.” I nod in understanding. “Avery is my Gamma. He’s third in command and he handles most of the matters regarding the omegas.” “And what’s an omega…?” I ask. “Most of my pack members are omegas. They’re my non-status wolves, or lower-level if you want to call them. But they’re treated with equal amounts of respect as anyone else.” I nod again. I still have so many questions but I don’t know how to go about asking them. The main question in my mind is why did I end up here? I was in danger obviously but why? Who were those people from last night that attacked me? “Are you hungry?” Hunter suddenly asks me. “Oh. Yeah…” I snap back to reality and make my way to the table to sit down. Jonathon and Avery exchange awkward glances at Hunter and then Hunter nods. Then the two of them leave me and Hunter alone in the big empty dining room. “Do you mind if I join you? I already ate, but I could keep you company…” he suggests. “Yeah, I don’t mind.” He pulls up a chair beside me and sits down. I awkwardly start to eat and he lounges beside me twiddling his thumbs. “How was your sleep?” He asks me. I swallow a mouth full of French toast. “It was short. But good. That bed is so comfy!” I giggle. “How was yours?” I take another mouthful of French toast. “Uh… I didn’t sleep.” “What?!” I almost choke on my French toast. “Why not?” “Umm… I had a lot on my mind, I guess.” He shrugs. I ponder his answer and then ask another question. “Did it have to do with those guys from last night?” “Partly, yeah.” He nods but hesitates to go into detail. I don’t want to pry too much but if it involves me I want to know everything. “I’ve been meaning to ask…” I start and place my fork back on the table. “Who were they? I mean… why did they attack me and break into my home?” He hesitates and scratches his head. “You’re aware of what we are, right?” “Yeah, your mom told me you’re all werewolves. Took me a bit to get used to that but my eyes didn’t deceive me…” I look him up and down and he nods and smiles. “Yeah… well there are other supernatural creatures out there too…” he explains slowly. “Like…?” “Vampires. Warlocks. Witches. And more.” “So like, I’m living in The Vampire Diaries right now?” My question makes him chuckle. “More like The Werewolf Diaries… But yes. All the creatures you’ve ever been told that were simply fantasies, the stories you’ve heard, it’s all real.” He says confidently. “Everything?” “Mainly… Yeah. Those guys who attacked you last night were a coven of vampires.” “WHAT?!” I choke on my orange juice and spill some of it down the front of my shirt. That’s just great! He hands me a few napkins while trying to contain his laughter and I wipe myself off. “Sorry… I just wasn’t expecting that.” I say honestly. “It’s okay. I’m sorry this is all so sudden and overwhelming for you.” “Yeah… it is.” I nod with a set smile. “Ask me anything. I want you to feel comfortable and safe.” “People keep telling me to ask all the questions I want but I don’t even know what to ask. I’m just confused I guess… why did they want me if they’re vampires? Were they just there to drink my blood and kill me?” “No… not really.” He hesitates. “They wanted your blood but not to drink it.” “Then why?” “You have special blood. They want your blood to make their coven stronger, and to stop the werewolf packs from getting stronger.” “I don’t understand. Why would my blood make them stronger?” “Because you’re not just any human, Cami.” When he says my name it inspires a rush of butterflies in my stomach. It sounds so nice when he says it. I try to shake that thought from my mind and focus on our conversation again. “What do you mean I’m not human? Wait! I’m not a vampire too, am I?” “No! You’d know if you were a vampire.” He chuckles. “Wouldn’t I know if I wasn’t a human though?” “Not necessarily. Some supernatural creatures are very similar to humans, like werewolves for example.” “So what? Am I a werewolf then?” I ask, laughing at my own question. “Yes.”
