Camille’s POV
As I wait for the police to arrive, I silently watch the black SUV outside my condo, not daring to take my eyes off of it. All at once all four doors open and out step four men dressed in all black with black slicked back hair. They look like mobsters or something but their clothes aren’t high end enough. Their skin is so pale it almost glows in the dark. I feel a cold shiver run down my spine and as soon as I’m about to call 911 again, one of the men looks up and makes eye contact with me through the blinds. I gasp and let go of the blinds. I stumble backwards and clutch the edge of my kitchen counter. Am I seeing things? I swear that man’s eyes were red. Like blood red. I start to hyperventilate but immediately begin to think of what to do. The first thing I can think of is to pack a bag of my valuables and a few pairs of clothes. I rush around my condo in a matter of seconds to get everything I think I need. My gut instincts are telling me to bail out the emergency back door exit of the building. Whoever these people are I can tell they’re not friendly. I don’t know what they want or why they’re here but it doesn’t sit right with me and my instincts are yelling at me to run.
I pack my passport, important documents such as my birth certificate and confidential financial statements, and my extra cash. I quickly grab my toothbrush and a couple of my favourite clothing garments. I make sure to not leave anything valuable or important behind before I leave my condo and head down the back hallway. I approach the exit stairs quickly, almost tripping over my own feet.
I’m unfortunately still wearing the same outfit I wore to work so my torso is quite exposed and I shiver as soon as I step outside. I’m so glad I grabbed my favourite Alo Yoga Sherpa jacket to throw on, otherwise the whole neighbourhood would be able to see my hard ass n*****s right now.
I rush out of the building but hesitate in which direction to go. The parking lot wraps around the building like a U so I’m exposed no matter what way I go. I look straight ahead of me, directly behind the building and come face to face with the small and dark evergreen forest. Most people wouldn’t think running into the dark and creepy forest is the smartest thing to do at midnight, but it’s better than the alternative which would be walking right into a possible mob group in the parking lot.
I hurry in my little, black heeled boots and pull my phone out of my pocket to phone Shyla. Hopefully she can come pick me up and take me back to her place until my condo is safe again. I trench through the forest, waiting for her to pick up and on the last ring, I stop dead in my tracks. Straight ahead of me are the men in black, their eyes glowing bright red and their white teeth shining so bright in the moonlight that they almost glow too. The shock of seeing them a few feet in front of me suddenly makes me drop my phone. It falls in slow motion and smashes to the ground. As my breath catches in my throat and my whole body freezes up, I notice their smiles look abnormal. Are those fangs?
Unknown POV
Just as he said, Jonathon stays close on my tail in the SUV and we finally make it to Camille’s place. Brock and his warriors are already in wolf form, hidden in the shadows.
Brock! Kill anyone who threatens her safety!
I command him using my Alpha tone. He bows his head and bares his fangs. He takes off when he catches her scent with two of his best warriors following close behind. I command Jonathon and Avery to stay in their human forms until otherwise told. They protest but can’t disobey me when I use my Alpha tone.
As I hurry after Brock and his warriors, I quickly catch the amazing vanilla and raspberry scent. It makes my mouth water but at the same time I feel a rage-like sensation wash over me. I can smell the fear on her, and it makes me beyond angry to think about my mate being threatened like this.
We round the back of the building and immediately I can smell the foul odour of vampires near.
I’m coming for you, Camille.
I say to myself in my head. If anyone lays a hand on her they won’t live to see the sun rise. In a matter of seconds, we find Camille, standing frozen in the middle of the forest, with four vampires surrounding her on either side. Brock and his warriors don’t even hesitate and in a flash we’re on them, sinking our fangs deep into the lifeless, cold skin of those bloodsuckers.
Camille’s POV
It was like I was frozen in time. I couldn’t run. I couldn’t scream. My body refused to move and I was in a trance-like state whilst staring into their soulless red eyes. Time seemed to move in slow motion when suddenly four wolves the size of cars showed up out of nowhere and started tearing the strangers dressed in black to pieces. I finally was able to move and I stumbled backwards and fell straight onto my ass. It would’ve hurt had I not been so terrified, and I scampered backwards to hide behind some bushes. My breathing was erratic and I felt like I was on the brink of having a panic attack. My chest felt tight and my lungs burned as I gasped for air. I clutched both of my hands to my chest as I watched the gruesome scene unfold before me from behind some shrubs. It wasn’t long before there was almost nothing left of the red eyed figures and the wolves calmed down. One wolf was much larger than the other three, with dark brown fur and glowing hazel eyes. He was beautiful and I was frozen in my spot, unable to look away from him. The other three wolves were bowing their heads to the larger one, as if they were communicating that he was the boss.
I was about to run off in the opposite direction when two humans showed up at the scene. I’d never seen them before but they were both really attractive. They walked right up to the four wolves without hesitating and started talking to them.
“You need to change back, so she can see you in your human form.”
“Here, I grabbed your clothes.”
The two humans talk directly to the largest wolf. Human form? What are they talking about? It’s as if I stepped onto the set of a fantasy/fiction movie. My next thought is that I need to call Shyla asap but my phone shattered to the ground a few yards away, and if I move from this spot they’ll see me and kill me. The reality of my situation finally hits me and I begin to feel faint. I do my best to focus on the men and wolves in front of me, but my vision starts to blur. The last thing I see is the largest wolf suddenly changing form, into a beautiful, familiar man… and then everything goes black.
Unknown POV
Camille passed out in front of us but I caught her just before she was able to hit the ground. I didn’t have a chance to put my clothes on yet so having her pressed up against my naked body does not bode well for me. She smells mouth watering and it takes everything inside me to control myself. I quickly pass her to Avery and he gently places her in the backseat of my Tahoe. I slip into my clothes and we immediately take off towards the territory.
Avery tried to make us turn back to clean up the vampire body parts scattered around the forest but I reminded him that as soon as the sun comes up they’ll turn to ash and there won’t be evidence of anything.
We drive for about an hour until Camille suddenly comes to. She’s immediately frantic and I panic, assuming the worst and that she won’t like me or want to stay with me.
Camille’s POV
When I slowly open my eyes, I realize I’m in the backseat of an unfamiliar SUV. I’m laying across the backseat fully clothed thank god. Panic sets in and I hold my breath out of fear that they’ll realize I’m awake. Did those mobsters kidnap me?! No, wait… They were all killed by those giant wolves if I remember correctly… But there were also some humans too…
I try to make sense of what just happened when I remember I saw the large wolf transform into a human right before I passed out. I must’ve been seeing things because wolves don’t turn into humans and vice versa. I look down at my hands and learn they’re not tied up. That’s kind of dumb to kidnap someone and not restrain them. If I wanted to I could just open the door and jump out. But we’re moving at highway speeds so that would be suicide, especially considering the clothes I’m wearing. I quietly look around to brainstorm my other escape options. I feel like there’s literally nothing I can do until the vehicle stops. I have no idea how long I’ve been in the car for or how much longer it’ll be. I don’t know where we’re going and now I don’t have a phone to call for help since it smashed to pieces in the ground earlier. I try to slowly sit up but the driver hears me and whips his head around.
“Please don’t hurt me!” I scream the first thing that pops into my head and shuffle to the seat farthest away from him.
“I’m not going to hurt you, I promise.” He says in the calmest voice.
Wait! I know him! He’s the guy that bought me my smoothie the other day! Oh my god… And he was at the bar where I work… Has he been stalking me?! How come I never put two and two together until now?! When I take a closer look at him, my heart stops. Did he…? No way! Was he the wolf that transformed into a human?! Omg I’ve been kidnapped by some sort of werewolf!
“What do you want with me?” I hesitantly ask.
“Nothing. I promise you’re safe.” He looks at the passenger and gives a small nod.
“We’re taking you to a safe place. Somewhere where those men won’t be able to find you again.” Says the passenger.
He has long black wavy hair that reaches his neck and chiselled features. Much like the driver, who is still one of the most attractive men I’ve ever seen, despite his shady persona.
“The men from before? You mean the mobsters?” I ask.
I hear a chuckle escape both their mouths but I don’t see what’s so funny.
“They weren’t mobsters, but we’ll discuss that later.” Says the passenger.
“Where are you taking me?”
“Like I said, a safe place. We’ll explain everything once we get there. You’re in no harm, we promise.” Reassures the passenger.
For some reason I feel like I can trust them but I still have more questions.
“How far away are we from the safe place?”
“About another 2 hours. We’ve been driving for about an hour already.” Says the driver.
His voice is smooth and deep. I can’t help but think about how sexy he is overall but I wish I didn’t think that. He’s a stranger and has been appearing out of nowhere everywhere for the past couple days. As much as I feel like I can trust him, I probably shouldn’t just in case.
“2 more hours?! What about my job or my condo? My best friend is going to be worried about me!”
“We’ll take care of everything for you. Please try to trust us. All your questions will be answered soon.” Explains the passenger. “My name is Jonathon by the way.”
“Jonathon…” I repeat quietly.
“And his name is Hunter.” He motions to the driver.
Hunter flashes me a quick small smile. Jonathon has been doing most of the talking. It’s as if Hunter doesn’t want to talk to me in fear of saying something wrong. Despite my circumstances I’m able to relax a little bit. I stare out the window and daydream for the remainder of the 2 hours. Neither Hunter nor Jonathon says a single word for the rest of the drive.
The drive goes by fast because before I know it, we’re pulling up to a giant black gate. I swear it’s at least 30 feet tall. On either side is a tall brick pillar and then more black fencing as far as I can see to both my left and right.
Hunter rolls down his window and a camera suddenly pops out of the brick pillar. It scans his face in a matter of seconds and then the gate opens. As the gate creates an opening, we slowly drive through it. We continue down a straight, long driveway. On either side of the paved road is a row of perfectly placed birch trees. This scenario reminds me of when you watch a movie with a rich person and their mansion rests at the end of a long, elaborate driveway.
As I pear through the trees I can see multiple houses in the distance. They’re beautiful and I start to think they truly are telling the truth. Maybe I can trust them. Besides, if they were dangerous or wanted to hurt me they would’ve done it by now. I highly doubt dangerous men like them would bring me to such a beautiful place like this.
We continue down the road as it starts to wind a bit and go over small hills. More and more buildings appear the farther we drive. More beautiful homes of all sizes and some small boutique-like shops along the way. I’m admiring the view, forgetting all about my unusual circumstance when suddenly all the homes and buildings I’ve seen so far fade away in comparison to the mansion we pull up to. The paved driveway comes to a fork and we take a right, driving right past a large 10-car garage. This is the kind of stuff you only see on TV.
My jaw drops subconsciously and we pull through a carport area in front of the house. The house or monstrosity I should say that stands before us is out of this world. It looks closer in comparison to a hotel than it does a house. It’s easily 6 stories tall and the French style front door has to be at least 10 feet high. The front door is located under a large carport that loops back around to the main driveway. The car stops just in front of it and Hunter and Jonathon immediately get out. I turn around and watch another Tahoe pull up behind us and stop as well, letting 4 other attractive men get out. What is this place?!
I stay where I am as I try to eavesdrop on Hunter’s conversation with Jonathon and another man from the other SUV.
“Yes, Alpha.”
Is all I could hear before I see a beautiful blonde woman exit the mansion’s doors. Did that man just call Hunter ‘Alpha’?
The woman hugs Hunter and they begin talking as well. She glances at me through the tinted windows and softly smiles. She nods at Hunter’s words and then with that, all the men go inside the building, leaving me left alone in the car by myself and the blonde woman approaching the vehicle. She looks to be about the same age as my mom. I back away from the door a bit as she opens it to greet me.
“Camille, right?” She asks.
Her voice is smooth like honey. I instantly feel relieved that I’m with another women and no longer surrounded by strange men.
“Yeah… Except I go by Cami…”
“Hi Cami.” She flashes me a big friendly smile. “Can I help you out?”
“Umm I can manage.” I say as I wait for her to back up and then slowly climb out of the Tahoe.
I crank my neck up to admire more of the building in front of me. It has black rock and raw cedar wood features along the facade. There are industrial sconces on either side of door and gigantic floor to ceiling windows along the second floor. Maybe that’s the main floor?
“I’m sure you’re very confused and probably scared for your safety, but I can assure you that you’ve never been safer. My name is Larissa.” The woman explains softly.
“Why am I here?” I ask.
“You were in danger. I’m sure you suspected that all on your own.”
I think back on the strange men clad in black that attacked me. Hunter and his ‘friends’ tore them to pieces in front of my eyes. I nod as I recall.
“But why was a I saved by you guys? Why does my safety matter to you? I don’t know any of you…”
“I can only imagine your confusion. I promise I’ll explain everything, Cami.” She says holding out her hand to me.
I hesitantly take it and follow her inside.
