Chapter 11: Joycelyn

957 Words
After Annika won her request of calling Emmanuel and Frost by her nicknames Mr. Bald Man and Mr. Meany, I won my request for no dessert or sweet treats for a week. She settled down for a moment. I took that time to run throw what I’ve done so far. Nothing. Unless you count f*****g. I rubbed my temples. I’m utterly disappointed in myself. The old me would probably kick my ass. I needed to call Trevor. How does he know these people is a question I need answered. Thinking about it now, I’m sure Trevor is the one who helped him find me. But I was careful. I used cash from the wallets I had stolen, stuck near low-security places. Keeping my head down, moving as soon as we were up. Like I said, the old me would have kicked my ass. Speaking of making calls, I needed to call Rosetta and let her know what happened. She must be worried about us. I just hope that she called Jayla to cover my presents at the company and keep a lid on things. Slowly the car began to fill with Annika asking Emmanuel questions and Frost typing furiously away on his phone. As for me. The questions in my head were burning. Who are these people? Where are they taking us? And why did I so willingly get into this car with this man? The only thing I know about him was, Frost isn’t his name, and my daughter is taking a quick liking to him and his brother. I also figured that he’s an angry texter. Who could he be texting so much and out of anger? A dramatic long gasp has me breaking out of my thoughts. I look over to see Annika with her mouth in an ‘o’ shape and her gasp still going. “Annika!” she started jumping up and down in the car seat. She tugged my arm, bringing me closer to her—damn mini she-hulk. When I am close to her, she grabs my face in her tiny hands, resting her head against mine. With a serious expression, she says, “it’s a princess castle,” Her eyes grew as she said it’s a castle. “What?” I was baffled. She then turns my face, our cheeks touching each other. “It’s a PRINCESS CASTLE!” she shouts out. I see a mansion ahead of us. She then gets overly excited and starts screaming. “Would you calm down!” I shout at her, and my eyes widen from her excitement. My gaze settles back to the mansion in front of us. It’s magnificently beautiful. It’s not a castle mansion, but a modern style mansion. Its cream coating of the paint shined elegantly in the sun, giving off an elegant vibe. The front of the mansion has two massive staircases leading up to the entrance. At the foot of the stairs is a pool, with an overflow waterfall. A few outdoor pool chairs lined one side of the pool, and an outdoor table set with a bar lined the other side. The car came to a stop, Annika did not give Frost a chance to open the door. She began pushing at his side, urging him to get out. Once he was out and helped her out, she ran in the middle of the lawn and screamed as loud as her lungs would allow her. “ITS A PRINCESS CASTLE!” Her hands were raised above her head. Frost held his hand out for me to take, to help me out of the car. For an asshole, he’s got chivalry to him. An asshole I f****d. Wow. “Annika, would you please calm down and act like you have manners,” I asked her, standing next to a laughing Emmanuel and a dimple face Frost. I meant he is smiling. Annika fake fainted, laying sprawled eagle on the lawn. I facepalm myself. Marching to an overdramatic child, I helped her to her feet. “Can I go swimming please, please, please,” she jumped for joy. I did not get a chance to answer her. She clung to my arm, pushing her feet against my thighs. “Annika!” I whined, but she didn’t stop. She laughed as her legs now wrapped around my waist. “I am not a monkey bar. Get off,” “While it’s fun watching you two. Please,” Frost voiced, catching our attention, his hand was held out in the direction of the mansion. Annika skipped the whole way to the staircase. Skipping and singing ‘it’s a princess mansion, lalala.’ If I thought the outside was beautiful, the inside just slaughtered it, even with my company doing great, reaching six figures and counting. I choose to live a simple life—a simple two-story house with a big enough backyard for Annika to play in. He led us to the kitchen, and it’s to die for. I would have appreciated the view of it, but five people stood around in the kitchen—three of which I recognized from the monitor. Emmanuel stood next to a man, who he looks a lot like. It’s fair to say that’s their father. All four boys look like him. I look at Frost to see he only got the jawline and eyes from his father. The woman next to Frost’s father has a disgusted look on her face. Jump b***h if you feeling froggy.
