Chapter Six: Her New Neighbor

862 Words
Myra’s POV I sighed as soon as I entered my car. If I had thought that work would make me feel better and take my mind off things, I had been wrong since half of my co workers had somehow known about the engagement. I made it a point to not they in my next relationship I was going to do my best to keep it extremely private. At the very best, a private fall apart was better than a public one. The loud chirp of my cell ringing distracted me from my thoughts as I grimaced at my sister’s name displayed on the screen. I was tired of everyone calling to confirm I wasn’t dead or somewhere killing myself. “I’m fine Ella. Now don’t say anything till I call you back. I’m on my way home.” I say hurriedly hanging up before she could anything. Although I didn’t say this to anyone, a part of me was glad this was over. Daniel had grown distant and touchy in the past year and I was only there because of how I felt about him and the familiarity. What really hurt was him not having the balls to say anything to me all these while. I also felt pity for the girl he was with, or had she known about me? I had a date with Helene tonight but I wasn’t even sure I wanted to go. As much as I understood that she was trying to my mind off things, I wanted to be alone. I parked my car in the parking space that was allocated for the top floor and get down my eyes fastened on the two new luxury cars that I hadn’t seen earlier today or before in this parking lot. I loved cars and I had only managed to settle for my current car because I wanted my own business and I needed to maximize my income. My gaze was fastened to the car and out of curiosity, I stalled the moment I saw one of the car doors open I wanted to see who was inside a car that was nothing less than fifty million dollars. My mouth drops open the moment I see the man that stepped out of the car and fury clouded my thoughts. “How dare you try to track me!? You already know I was scammed.” I attack fiercely while clutching my bag to my chest and I looked around guardedly. With the slight darkness of the parking lot, he looks devilishly handsome and somehow, his coat makes him look regal and a bit taller than I remembered. His eyes flash with a glint as he chuckles while moving closer to me. The very action fills me with panic as I move backwards immediately my heart beating erratically in my chest. “Calm down wild cat. I’m certainly not here for you.” He says, his voice sparking a reaction I hadn’t expected in my body. The memory of that night and his hands trailing my body floods my senses as I watch him walk past my car and me. just I look away from him and at the car as a man gets down from the other side of the car and follows behind him. I don’t let down my guard until I see that the both of them have left the parking lot. Somehow the thought that he wasn’t here for me made me slightly disappointed. The apartment butler was dozing off when I passed by him something I was used to after staying here for more than seven months. One would imagine that with how expensive the apartment is there would be some level of strictness in their dealings, yet other than the security, everything was so basic. The moment I come out of the elevator on my floor, I hear two baritone voices making me scrunch up my eyebrows in irritation. I had a next door neighbor who had moved in fully yesterday. He didn’t do anything terrible but just the simple fact that I knew there was already someone next door made me dissatisfied. A lot of people would avoid the top floor but I picked it for that sole reason. Now, we had just one empty apartment and it would be like any other floor. Two men turn the moment I drop my bags to search for my card and my whole body turns rigid the moment I see the second guy. Or rather, man. I felt all my dreams and nightmares rushing at me at the same moment. He had been right. He wasn’t here for me by any means. This sexy as hell stranger that had my body go hot from just his stares and voice actually lived here and more importantly, he was my next door neighbor! I don’t think anything that I had gone through since I knew Daniel could make up for how I felt at the moment. “You should be less paranoid wild cat.” He says in a sing song as he made his way towards me. His long legs closing the distance in seconds.
