Chapter 11

He dialed the number again and a feminine voice again said: “The number you are trying to reach is currently unavailable.” It was a nice voice but he hoped to hear another, much nicer voice. The could call the facility but he would have to explain what he was calling for. He could call Jonathan but he would have to do even more explaining. The guy could be the omega but he took his responsibilities very seriously. The privacy and safety of women in the facility were his first responsibility. And Adam felt he had no right to show a special interest in Viola. He didn’t even know her for real, they only spoke for a few minutes. Yet he wanted to tell her he was visiting and he wanted to visit. Hannah, his assistant called. “Your delivery just came. Where should the delivery man leave it?” “Thank you. Leave them at the reception, I will pick them up leaving.” “Yes, sir,” she said. She never asked questions. She could be his mother and he felt her steady and warm support after Maria died. They never spoke about it but he noticed these little things she did then to make his life a little more bearable. These things were those that Jonathan asked yesterday. Mostly educational stuff for children. He imagined himself barging into the facility with all the packs and children running away from him screaming and whining that these are not toys. He smiled at these thoughts and forced himself to go back to work. He wasn’t effective that day, he still thought about William’s words. Granny was a mother figure for him. She raised him, loved him, and made him the man he was. And now her life was at stake. That hurt and Adam wanted to help. He could understand grandfather. It was a hard choice for him. Mates were precious, even though they were the last string joining werewolves with their past, the pull was too strong to resist. He knew it very well and he didn’t want grandfather to suffer like he suffered when she was gone. He didn’t think he would get another chance. Not when he failed miserably and not with the pack choosing to cease the old ways. The goddess wouldn’t forgive and forget this. Grandfather probably thought the same, only wasn’t that ruthless to say it out loud, so he chose a mate and was ready to force Adam to take over the pack. He really should just accept fate and marry Alina. Yet it didn’t feel right and his f*****g wolf agreed with him. What was more than uncommon, the wolf tried to connect with and reason with him. “You have time, you don’t have to decide now,” he kept whispering in Adam’s head. “Just try to see other options.” Did the wolf think this Viola could be an option? Adam didn’t think she was even a werewolf. A she-wolf wouldn’t end up running away in panic. Yet he felt the urge to take care of her. It was all so messed up. Adam would like to talk to someone about it. But there wasn’t anyone that would listen. He never had a close connection with his grandfather and he felt that Chris wasn’t the right person. When Adam thought about it, it seemed that all the bonds he made weren’t that strong and real. Maybe he could reach out to Marius, but he was too ashamed after he shunned him just like that. The longer he thought about it, the dumber he seemed to himself. “I’m done for today. The reports for tomorrow are on my desk, please take them to the conference room,” he said to Hannah. “You should also be finishing, have a nice evening.” “You too, sir,” she said and smiled. Adam packed the packages into his car and drove to the facility. He quit trying to call Viola, but he called Jonathan, so he was there to meet Adam when he arrived. “You really came. This was unexpected,” Jonathan said instead of a greeting and Adam thought that maybe he should speak with him. But first, he should determine if there is anything to talk about. “Maybe you should talk with me.” The mutt wolf hissed. He was acting stranger than normal these days. “You promised you’d shut up if I came here. I am here, so get lost.” Adam replied. “Am I bothering you?” Jonathan hissed. Yep, he wasn’t a regular omega. “I’m sorry, Jonathan, I’m happy to see you.” “Were you by any chance talking to your wolf?” “How could you tell?” Adam asked. “It isn’t common knowledge nowadays, but some omegas are very sensitive to the mood. You know, a survival strategy, you have to know who is willing to hit you.” Jonathan smiled sadly and Adam remembered. He was originally from Maria’s pack and his mother was killed by their alpha-to-be when he got mad about some unimportant thing. “So, you’ve got the stuff. Come on, we need to take it to the common room. By the way, we will need more.” Adam looked at him doubtfully, he thought he brought a lot. “We managed to hire a lady that will organize the time for our children. She needs some time to estimate the needs. Could she contact you when she does?” “You are a sly asshole.” “Thank you. That means you agree?” Jonathan laughed and Adam nodded his head. Adam wanted to ask about Viola but he didn’t get a chance. “I’d like to talk with you more but you know, I’ve got lots of work,” Jonathan said after they put the packages in the common room. “Do something, you have to visit and meet the girl.” The wolf howled. Adam remembered something he thought about today and a brilliant idea came to his mind. “I was thinking maybe I could help you more. Don’t you think the women here could use some self-defense lessons? I could come with Marius and teach them.” “This is brilliant. Just let me know when we could start and I'll tell the girls. Maybe you could bring a woman trainer with you?” “I will tomorrow,” Adam smiled and went to his car.
