Chapter 16

After a few hours, Emmett brought me home right as Edward and Bella was pulling up. I looked over st Emmett and smiled as I got out of the jeep. I walked over to Edward’s car as Emmett drove off giving Edward a quick nod.

“Hey, so I guess we both skipped school and the truck is left at the school.” I had brought up.

“I’ll have Alice bring it by.” Edward said chuckling then looked in the mirror just as a black car was coming behind him.

“What’s wrong?” Bella asked him.

“It’s complicated.” Edward said as he looked at me.

I looked to the right of me and saw who it was. It was Jacob and his dad.

“It’s Jake.” I said.

Bella looked behind her in the seat then got out of the car.

“I’ll come get y’all in the morning.” Edward said as Bella walked over to me.

“You don’t have to do that.” I told him.

“I know but I want to.” He said then sped off.

Bella and I took a deep breath then looked over at the car as Jacob and Billy pulls in.

“Come to visit your truck?” Bella asked.

“Yeah, wanted to see if you got that dent out. But where’s the truck?” Jacob asked us.

“At the school still. The battery was dead.” I had said. “I left the overhead light on, so a friend of ours brought us home. Our friend and his brother is gonna jump start it and bring it over later.”

“Oh okay.” Jacob said.

“But actually, we came to visit your flat screen. First Mariners game of the season. Plus Jacob here kept bugging me to see you guys again.” Billy said with a small chuckle.

Jacob sounding mortified as he said. “Great, Dad. Thanks.”

Jacob shoots his father an irritated look, just as the POLICE CRUISER pulls up. Charlie climbs out, holding two six-packs.

“Pale Ale.” Charlie says with a smile.

Billy holds up a brown paper bag. “Harry Clearwater's homemade fish fry.”

Charlie smiles, pleased. He clicks on the game as they all head inside

“Any luck with the Waylon case?” Billy asked Charlie.

“Found a footprint out at the crime scene today. A bare, human footprint.” Charlie answered him.

Billy seems disturbed but not surprised. Both Bella and I are horrified to what our father said.

“A person did that?” Both of us said at the same time.

“A crazy person, walking around barefoot this time of year.” Jacob says.

“I mean it could’ve been a bum all we know.” I spoke up.

Charlie looked at me then at Billy. “Spread the word out at the rez, will ya? Keep the kids out of the woods.”

“Will do.” Billy said then directed at Bella and I. “Don't want no one else getting hurt.”

Bella looks away from Billy, unnerved. I looked down, thinking that there were others like the Cullens’ here. How do we know if we can really trust the Cullens’ at all. I mean, they’re around people at the school. Edward and Emmett saved me and Bella when the van almost hit us.

Jacob saw the look on my face, he came over and patted me on the shoulder. He whispered in my ear. “Charlie got this, don’t worry.”

I nodded then went up to mine and Bella’s room to change. After I changed, I went back downstairs to the kitchen to do my homework. Bella was already in there doing hers with Jacob sitting next to her. I sat next to him and started doing mine. I was working on my Spanish homework when I was trying to figure it out but I was stomped. I saw Jacob look over at me then chuckled. I looked up at him and smiled. He helped me out some. He was actually really good at this than I was.

Once both Bella and I were done, Bella started on the dinner that Billy brought over. It was only enough for Charlie, Bella, and I. Billy and Jacob said they already eaten before they got here. While Bella was cooking the fish, Jake and I talked about the beach. When Bella and I were gonna come back out there. I told him I don’t know. I said I might this weekend to see his friend, of course Jacob being Jacob, he chuckled.

“You like Embry, dontcha?” Jake asked me.

“He’s cool. I like him as a friend. Why has he asked about me?”

“In a way, sorta. Just asked if I’ve seen you since the last time y’all were together.”

“Oh,” I said as Bella handed me my food then walked Charlie’s his plate. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Bella said as she came back and sat down to eat herself.

After dinner, Bella done the dishes then went up to her room. By then, the game was over and Billy and Jacob had left to go home for the night. As I said my goodbyes to Charlie, I went upstairs to Bella’s room to change into my night clothes. As I was getting to the top of the stairs I heard Bella talking to someone, so I went on ahead into the room. When I opened the door, Bella stop talking and she wasn’t even on the phone. I looked around the room and had a feeling someone was here. I put my hand in my hip and looked back at Bella.

“What?” She asked.

“Who were you talking to?” I asked.

“No, one.”

“Mhmm, sure. I heard you talking.” I said as I went to the dresser.

I about to take off my shirt when Bella spoke. “I wouldn’t do that here if I were you?”

“Why? You’ve seen me naked before.”

“Yeah, but.” Just as Bella said that Edward came into view from the other side of the door.

I was about to scream when Bella got up and covered my mouth and sat me on the bed.

“Shhhh, it’s just Edward.”

“I can clearly see. What are you doing here?” I asked him.

“Came to see your sister. I’ve been coming here at night to watch her sleep since the accident.” Edward said.

“Creepy much.” I told him.

He smirked his handsomely boyish smile at me. I just shook my head at him. I got up from the bed then went to the dresser to get my clothes. As I went to the door to leave, I looked at Bella and shook my head then left.

“Do you really watch me sleep?” Bella asked him as I closed the door.

That’s just plain creepy you tell me. But eh, that’s all on her. As I went to my room, I changed my clothes once more then hopped into bed to go to sleep. As I was laying there, what Charlie and Billy said about their friend, could there be others like the Cullens. Bad vampires? The ones that can kill you by one simple bite. One simple blow from them. I shivered at that thought.

Was this how I was gonna die? Death by a vampire or even a werewolf? What does my future hold out for me now since I know all about these supernatural beings. Was there other supernatural creatures out there, like the loch Ness monster, cyclops, fairies, goblins, dragons, you name it. What is this world coming to? What is there to know beyond what I found on.
