Chapter 1 Caden Gage Jax
POV: Caden
Hi, my name is Caden Gage Jax. I'm 25 years old. I'm the Alpha of the Blood Rose Pack. I'm not a werewolf. I'm something more, a Lycan. Lycans are the superior species when it comes to the werewolf world. Any ability a werewolf has is twice as strong for a Lycan. We are bigger and more beast-like. A Lycan stands on his hind legs whereas a werewolf stands on all four legs and is shaped more like a wolf when they shift. There are many things in common that a werewolf pack has compared to a Lycan pack. A Lycan pack has more ranks for example. A werewolf pack has your typical Alpha, Luna, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Eta, and Omega ranks. They also have warriors and a pack council. Then they all answer to the werewolf council.
In a Lycan pack, we have twelve ranks. We have the typical, Alpha, Luna, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Eta, and Omega. Our ranks change after you get to Delta. After Delta is Zeta. In the Lycan pack warriors have their own rank which we call Zeta. If anyone ever wanted to climb the ranks and get as high as possible, then Zeta, Eta, and Theta are the ranks to do this with. After Zeta is Eta which is just like in a werewolf pack. They are pack doctors. This goes for all kinds of doctors like therapists and dentists. Thetas are trackers and hunters. They can sniff anything out. Some are born as a Theta while others learn and train to be. For those who learn, their strong suit is normally the hunter part.
The eighth rank is the most interesting and not many of them exist. This is a Kappa. They are council members. The Blood Rose Pack is the last and only Lycan pack left. Because of this, we don't have much of a council. We rely on Kappas. They are excellent in advice. A Kappa is placed in werewolf packs in secret. A lycan can mask its scent as a werewolf. Some are on the werewolf council. This is how we keep tabs on the werewolves and merge into the community. Part of a Lycan's purpose is protecting our cousin species. We respect them as they respect us. However, we don't trust easily, not even a werewolf. Our next rank is Sigma. They are trainers and teachers. They keep up with the pack's history. Rank number ten would be Upsilon. These are the providers of the pack. They own businesses. They are all required to put a certain percentage into a fund for the pack. Then finally the last rank of a pack is Omega.
There are around 150 Lycans left in the world. We were nearly wiped out due to a war against the vampires. Do you want to see a Lycan get pissed the hell off? Mention Vampires and watch what happens. We have been slowly rebuilding our species back to what it once was. Most Lycans try to have at least three or four kids if they can. It's not often you hear about a Lycan being an only child. We all have siblings. I have two myself. I have a brother, Samuel. He likes to be called Sam for short. I have a little sister, Lindsey. I'm the oldest sibling in my family. My mom is Tess and My dad is Leland but you can call him Jax. He hates his first name. He can't go by his middle name because that's his beast's name. The only name left was his last name.
I look like my dad with his black raven hair and dark chocolate eyes. I stand a few inches taller than my old man too at six foot seven inches. My sister looks more like my mom with red hair and green eyes. Sam is a mixture of both my parents. Both of my siblings have a mate. Sam is an Eta while his mate, Kimberly is a Sigma. We just call her Kim. Lindsey is a Zeta with a born Theta mate, Bently.
I don't have a mate yet. Lycan's don't do the whole chosen mate thing. Rarely, they do anyway. Sure, we date around before we find our mates but we all know our relationships won't last. For werewolves, there is some hope for them for a chosen mate. Lycans don't take chosen mates because we can only procreate with our fated mates. I'm in a pack filled with Lycans. My mate is either not of age yet, dead, or not a lycan. Either way, my mate is somewhere out there waiting for me, be it in this life or the next.
"Hey, Alpha" My Beta, Nathan Vance walks into my office knocking on the door frame. "Yes?" I say annoyed. He knows I hate it when he comes in and then knocks. He can be so backward. "I'm here to remind you about the meeting you have tomorrow. I completely forgot about it so we should leave in the next hour." Nathan says. "What meeting are you talking about?" I ask. What meeting? I don't recall having any meeting scheduled for tomorrow. "Luna Zayla from the Regal Moonstone Pack called to confirm the meeting for tomorrow. She's been waiting a long time for this." He reminds me. "Why didn't you put it in the books like I told you to?" I say annoyed. I hate last-minute things.
Luna Zayla reached out months ago to meet. I have no idea what for but she seemed extremely desperate to meet me. I get to her pack and she goes into labor before I can even see her. I was so pissed off. I know there was nothing she could do about that. I do not fault her for that. Her pup took precedence at the time. Now we have a rescheduled meeting and I've completely forgotten about it. I've heard many rumors about this Luna Zayla. Her mate was murdered, leaving her alone with the pack and an unborn pup to raise. I've heard she is not a normal werewolf. She's a Lavender wolf. With that piece of information, I wonder if this has to do with the journal. Fredrick Luniare's Hidden Journal. A lavender wolf came to me seeking the castle for the journal. I lead him to it with one condition. Bring it to me if he can no longer keep the journal safe.
In the journal holds the location of a stone. I am forbidden from ever speaking of what this stone is to anyone. Only the alpha of the pack knows. My father knew but it was wiped from his memory by an elder. We also have Elders like a werewolf pack. "I can't reschedule can I?" I say to Nathan knowing full well he's already told the Luna we will be there. He smiles knowing I already know what he's done. "Yes, but she has waited a very long time. She's a very busy Luna with a pup and a pack to deal with at the same time." Nathan says like he feels bad for her. "That isn't my problem. Go get packed and inform Ryan we are leaving in thirty minutes and not a minute more. Set out a pack code grey and brown." I order. Ryan Tipton is my Gamma. I will be taking him with me on my trip. Nathan will run the pack in my absence. A code grey is when The Alpha and/or Luna has left the pack. A code brown is a safety code. the pack is in medium danger. I do this when I leave. It promotes the pack to be cautious.
Nathan leaves to carry out my order. He can be annoying at times but he's a good Beta and friend. I mind link my family to let them know I am leaving for the next few days. Grab a bag in my bedroom and throw some clothes and things that I will need inside. Let's go see what this Luna wants. Then maybe I can get her name out of my head. I've been curious about her since she first reached out. Her name has haunted my dreams. I'm quite curious about her. Why does her name haunt me?
