I could feel his body stiffening for a second before he raised his head to look at me. He looked confused as he slowly detached himself from me and stepped down from the bed.
“Why?” He asked as he started to get dressed. I simply watched him , missing him already. I knew that after tonight, I won't be able to hold him close anymore. “I thought we were doing good.”
“We are doing good… in bed, Christian.” I reminded him and he stopped what he was doing to look at me.
“And that's what matters.” He said as he started to walk towards me. He was shirtless and I resisted the urge to touch him again. “I take good care of you and you satisfy me sweetheart. What more do you want?”
Love… my heart immediately answered but my lips remained sealed.
“Marriage is not always about s*x, Christian. You don't like me . If you want you could get any woman in your bed to satisfy you.” I said even though it hurt to think of him touching someone else, that's not me.
He walked even closer to me. His warm fingers forced me to look at him directly.
“It's not convenient to search for new hole, sweetheart. Our arrangement is perfect.” He spoke as his lips touched mine like always. He placed his hand on my waist as he pulled me closer.
My eyes began to sting at his words. I was nothing but a hole for him and here I thought that I meant something to him.
Reluctantly, I pushed him away because I knew that if we continue anymore I don't think I could make him stop.
“Stella is back , Christian. This is your chance to marry her.” I reminded him. My voice was surprisingly firm even though my heart was breaking into various little pieces. I don't think that I could ever be able to mend those pieces again.
Even though it hurts, but I wasn't that oblivious to think that I could ever hold a candle against Stella. She will always be number one in Christian's heart whereas I was nowhere near his heart.
He pulled away from me completely and I immediately missed his warmth.
“You are serious about this.” He stated and I nodded. He watched me for a second and I watched him run his fingers through his messy hair. “Okay. I'll get it ready in a week.” He stated and without even waiting for my reply , he walked out of the room leaving me alone on his bed while I could still feel the traces of his warm touch.
My body slumped against the edge of the bed as soon as he left. My heart felt as if it had broken into several more small pieces but this was going to happen sooner or later, I knew it from the beginning. It's better if I break apart from him now than later.
He had always loved Stella, my older step-sister. She was the one who has always ruled his heart and I was just a substitute.
Stella and Christian were supposed to get marry together but Stella ditched him on the aisle as she just got a modelling offer that morning. It was her dream to venture a model and she would not have missed it for anything, not even for her childhood sweetheart, Christian.
She chose her career over her wedding to the love of her life.
And Christian's father had begged me to marry Christian to save their family face because the media was already waiting to click the pictures of a mysterious bride. No one knew who the bride was until the wedding.
As a last option and necessity of the situation, I was the one who replaced Stella.
I still remember the look on Christian's face as he read the vows that were meant for my sister. I still remember him holding me by my waist in front of the paparazzi, his touch on my waist was borderline painful.
He was deeply in love with Stella and I was nowhere in his priority list.
During the first few weeks of our marriage, we would barely talk to each other . But it changed when we both got drunk one night and somehow ended up in the bed. Ever since then we have had this relationship with each other.
Christian was a gentleman, I will give him that. Never once had he ever raised his voice at me, never once he had forced himself on me. Always treated me with respect in front of others. All these gestures were enough for me to fall head over heels for him.
But he just saw me as one of the holes he would find to take out his frustration.
In these two years, he has never treated me as someone would treat his wife. I have no idea about what he does all day, what problems he is facing. I know nothing about him. Absolutely nothing. I was just a warm body for him. But he failed to notice that this warm body had feelings too.
I quickly got under the shower, washing away his traces over my body as tears began to fall from my eyes.
It's over.
It's finally over.
……..
“Eat something.” Ava said as she brought a peace of avocado toast in front of my mouth. I turned my head as I tried to concentrate on my work.
“I told you. I am not hungry.” I grumbled as I pushed her away. She got the message and moved away, although pouting.
“You haven't eaten anything since more! “ She whined, as she chewed her food. “At this rate you will fall sick.”
“I am just feeling nauseous.” I told her, not looking away from my screen.
“You said the same last week too.” Ava remined, her perfectly shaped brows pulled in a frown as she stared at me.
True. I have not felt well for a few days now, specifically since I and Christian parted our ways. I moved out of his penthouse after telling him about me wanting a divorce. I am living in a rented apartment. I thought, no, I hoped that I would hear something from Christian but there was nothing. A complete silence from his side.
Maybe I am feeling Christian redrawal symptoms? I was missing him like crazy. I missed his morning puffy face. I missed his touch. I missed the little talks we had in between. I just miss him.
. I laughed at the thought as I focused once again on my work . I was the one who suggested divorce, I should not think about my husband so much.
Something flashed in Ava's eyes as she abruptly stopped eating and stared at me with wide eyes.
“Come with me!” She Said as she slammed her tiffin on the table and grabbed my wrist, pulling up to stand in front of her. She took her handbag
“Where?” She Said nothing as she began to walk, pulling me with her. “Ava! What are you doing?” She didn't answer me at all, she just continued to walk until we were standing in front of the ladies washroom. “What?” She then pulled something from her handbag and handed it over to me. When I saw what it was my eyes widened. It was a pregnancy test.
“Go check it.” She instructed me and I rolled My eyes.
“I am on birth control. There is no way I am pregnant.” I said , almost laughing. “It's probably a stomach bug or something.”
“We never know. Birth control can't always be reliable, you know.” She said as she pushed me towards the washroom. I wanted to argue but she stopped me once again. “Just go. For my sake.”
I rolled my eyes as I took the test. As I waited for the results my heart began to beat faster.
What if I was really pregnant? What will I do then?
I slowly turned the test and my heart stopped beating altogether as two bright lines stared back at me.
I was pregnant.
