10 Alice worked for another hour or so, but her mind wasn’t on it. She gave up and shut off her laptop and walked alone to the mess hall. She ate an early dinner of teriyaki vegetables and rice. Dessert was cheesecake. She ate that too. She didn’t see anyone she knew. Just as well. She needed to look through more files. None of the day felt like a particular success.
