Chapter 10: As They Come They Go (2)

“Save it… Enjoy your apartment, it’s all yours now…” Mason said as he picked up a small suitcase and began throwing in his clothes in there. It wasn’t a lot since most of his things were in the other apartment already, just staying there waiting for him.
“Mason, there’s no need to be so dramatic! I didn’t say anything…” Lucas followed after the other man still trying to make him change his mind. But nothing seemed to be working and the more he spoke the more annoyed the other person seemed to become.
Mason picked up his phone and dialed a number then after a single ring he said: “Hello? Yes, a taxi for St. SHI number 4… thank you…” He then continued packing things, among which some of Leo’s dog toys. Mason was in a hurry as the other tried to grab his hand again but he shook him off. “Stop touching me already!” He yelled at his friend one more time with a serious glare in his eyes…
“You’re really leaving?!” Lucas now actually panicked when he heard the phone call. “I’m sorry alright, I didn’t know you’d react like this when I said it and-” He was interrupted once more.
“Of course I am… I shouldn’t have even come here in the first place…” Mason muttered to himself in an angered tone as he finished, he knelt down and called out “Leo, come here…” then put the collar on the Pomeranian. After which he stood up and leash in hand walked out of the apartment with Leo. He clicked the elevator button and waited for about thirty seconds before it arrived on his floor.
At this point Lucas had already run out of things to say or do to make the man say so he stopped following him and just watched him leave via the elevator…
“f**k… he really left…” Lucas remarked whole closing the door behind him. He touched the top of his head with the palm of his hand feeling like a head ache would soon start bothering him as he turned to his friend who had a less than pleasant expression on his face. “What?!”
“What do you mean ‘what’? You basically kicked him out… you i***t…” Nathan remarked as he crossed his hands. “He’s taking this really badly and you had to say some s**t like that to him?!”
“No, I didn’t… he overreacted…” Lucas said as he walked back into the living room and sat down on the sofa. “It’s not like I wanted him to go… I just spoke my mind is all…”
“You really don’t get it L… He’s… he’s always helped you out and you’re acting like all of it means nothing… He didn’t lash out at you for nothing either… You’re the one in the wrong and you should have apologized…” Nathan said as he gave the man a stern look but it didn’t seem to be of much use.
“What was I supposed to do just now?! Why didn’t you intervene if you thought I should have backed down?!” Lucas asked as he raised his voice once again.
“I tried…” Nathan said as he sighed loudly. “It doesn’t matter anymore… I’ll go check up on him tonight… Hopefully he’ll feel better…”
‘Did I really… do something so bad?’ Lucas wondered to himself as he stared at the ground for a bit. His words weren’t such with malicious intent but rather coming from a place of ignorance. He really didn’t know what the man was going though since he’s never experienced such a thing before.
There was a knock at the door and Nathan turned around to see who it was. “Hm? You’re here already, man?” He said as he opened the door quickly.
The person standing on the other side of the door was Drew, who he’d called the day before. “You told me you needed me, and I’m here… but… I saw Mason leaving just now in a taxi… he didn’t pick up my calls either…”
“Well… somebody just kicked him out of his own apartment… so it’s not surprising…” Nathan said as he turned to glance over at Lucas who still didn’t seem to understand where he’d gone wrong.
Lucas rushed off in his room and closed the door, then quickly locked it afterwards…
“Huh? Why did Lucas just…” Drew asked as he pointed to the man’s door.
“I don’t know where to start even…” Nathan said in a tired voice. The entire ordeal seemed to silly to him at that moment…

“Alright… I think I get it… So Mason’s over at his other apartment, you know where that is?” Drew asked the calm and strategic manner that was so typical of him.
“Yeah, I’ve been there before, it’s only ‘bout a half an hour away from here… but if we walk up to him I doubt he’d want to talk with us... He’s not really being himself these days…” Nathan explained as he looked down at the coffee table.
“Let’s go check up on him tonight. He might have cooled off by then.” Drew said with a smile on his face. His voice was rather reassuring, as if he had already figured out how to handle the situation.
“Good thinking but what do we do about Lucas?” Nathan asked as he looked at the door of the bedroom. It was awfully quiet from inside which meant the man wasn’t planning on going out any time soon.
“I don’t know… He’s usually not so difficult but… He can’t admit he’s wrong either, that’s one of his bad traits.” Drew said as he leaned back into his chair and started thinking.
“Ah… same goes for all of us I guess… we can all be too thick headed at the worst of times…” Nathan admitted as he looked down again. “Well… Mason had a way to deal with him when he got like that… Though I don’t think we’d be able to pull it off like him…”
