Noodles

Upon hearing the bodyguard's statement, Gillian's heart skipped a beat, and her eyes widened like those of a cute hamster. Augustus had just known Gillian the day before; how could he care about her so much that her absence would lead to his current mood? Suddenly, a thought flickered through Gillian's mind. Perhaps Gillian was the only person Augustus could rely on, so he subconsciously began to get possessive of her. Gillian's brows knit slightly upon realizing a thing. Didn't the Albrecht family care for Augustus? How would Augustus be in such a position without them bothering about it? Gillian took a deep breath to suppress her chaotic thoughts. Instantly, she decided on the most important thing, which was checking on Augustus. Regardless of what might happen later, Gillian decided to ditch the cleaning job until she made sure that Augustus was fine. Gillian bit her lower lip and turned to Butler Leo solemnly. Her back straightened, and her gaze was firm. "I'll check up on the young master's health!" She declared courageously. The subtle meaning was that whether the butler wanted it or not, Gillian would go see Augustus. Upon seeing the determination and sincerity written on Gillian's face, a trace of surprise flickered past Butler Leo's face. Had it been those heiresses, they'd never truly cared about Augustus, and if they showed that they cared, 99% of the time, they were faking it. Moreover, those heiresses will deem winning Renata and Calista more important than caring for Augustus. But it was the opposite for Gillian. Butler Leo stroked his beard. He can't wait to see where this is going. Despite the thoughts pervading Butler Leo's mind, his expression was calm. He nodded unhurriedly and placed his hand behind him. "Young Miss, this old Butler would like to take a look at Mr. Augustus." He expressed and flashed Gillian a smile. Immediately, Gillian understood the implicit meaning of Butler Leo's statement. She understood that the butler was taking responsibility for bringing her to Augustus. With the butler's declaration, if Renata gets to know that Gillian went to Augustus instead of going to the hall to clean, Butler Leo will be punished because he was the one who brought Gillian to Augustus. After all, he had just announced that he wanted to take a look at Augustus. Gillian's eyes reddened, and warmth seeped into her heart. Ever since she stepped into the Albrecht mansion, except for Augustus, no one had shown care for her; rather, they kept looking down or scheming at her. Never did Gillian expect that the fierce-looking butler Leo would be the one to show his care. Her eyes turned hot, and she attempted to bow to Butler Leo as a form of appreciation, but before she could... Butler Leo hurriedly took a step forward to stop Gillian's actions. Although Gillian is looked down on by the Albrecht family, it still can't be denied that Gillian is Augustus' wife and the official madam of the mansion. It'll be wrong for an ordinary butler like Leo to accept Gillian's bow. "It's getting late, miss." Butler Leo stated immediately as if to tell her that instead of bowing to him, she should hurry up to check on Augustus before Renata got wind of it. An appreciative smile lit up on Gillian's face, and she nodded. "Thank you, Butler Leo." "Let's go." Immediately, Gillian turned to Steve, the bodyguard, anxiously and began to make her way toward the stairs. "No. Miss, wait, please." Steve quickly waved his hand and cried out, stopping Gillian in her tracks. Upon seeing Gillian's clear and beautiful eyes filled with anxiety, he couldn't help feeling guilty, so he hurriedly lowered his head to hide his expression. "Um. I told the young master that Miss went out to buy something for the young master." He hurriedly clarified. Gillian froze, but in the next minute, she snapped out of it. A thought flickered in her mind, and she stared at Steve. "The young master hasn't eaten all day, has he?" She questioned Steve shook his head. "No, miss. The chefs cooked the young master's favorite meal, but the young master wouldn't spare a glance at them." He clarified Immediately, Gillian nodded her head in understanding. Her expression turned blank, and she pointed at her things without having any intention to take a step. "Bring my things upstairs." She ordered. Upon seeing Gillian's stance, Steve's eyes flew wide open with anxiety. "Miss, you're not going to see the young master?" He thought Gillian cared about Augustus so much, but why wasn't she attempting to check up on Augustus again? Thinking about Augustus' mood made Steve grit his teeth. If Gillian really wanted to stay back, he'd have no choice but to throw her on his shoulder and force her up. Gillian shook her head, causing Steve's expression to turn gloomy. Since Augustus didn't eat the chef's food, she decided to make a homemade meal for him. She believed that he'd like it. "I'll see the young master after I prepare his meal." Gillian expressed and without waiting for Steve's reply, she turned to Butler Leo. "Butler Leo, can you lead me to the kitchen, please?" Gillian asked while staring at Butler Leo with an expression that left no traces of rejection or hesitation. It doesn't matter if Butler Leo would snitch on her to Renata or not; she'd still go over to prepare a meal for Augustus. Butler Leo sighed and nodded in reply. His adult eyes twinkled with surprise. With this little interaction, Butler Leo already noticed that Gillian seemed to be a fearsome and innocent type of lady, yet he couldn't understand why scandals about her filled the media and why she was quietly going through it all without complaint. The young madam seems to have a tale to tell. Gillian hurriedly followed butler Leo into the large kitchen. The kitchen was several meters large and sparkling clean. It was decorated with luxurious-quality brands, and all the cooking items were from top-quality brands. Currently, in the kitchen, there were two famous chefs and the Albrecht maids chatting about the intended solution for Augustus's hunger-stricken attitude. Being in charge of Augustus's meals for years, they already knew all his tastes offhand, yet no matter what they prepared, Augustus' food intake kept decreasing. Today, he didn't even bother casting a glance at the meal! As soon as Gillian stepped into the kitchen, the chefs and maids paused their conversation and stood up to greet her, and butler Leo. Gillian and Butler Leo nodded to them in return. Without pausing, Gillian walks towards the gas cooker, her gaze filled with anxiety. "Are there noodles?" Gillian suddenly inquired while going through the kitchen about the things she'd need to prepare a bowl of homemade noodles and a poached egg for Augustus. Butler Leo paused and stared at Gillian in bewilderment. All Gillian wanted to prepare for Augustus was noodles? "Noodles?" He exclaimed as if the term noodles was a foreign word in the mansion. Gillian stood up and gasped in shock. It can't be that the Albrecht family doesn't eat noodles? Immediately, Gillian smacked her forehead. What does she expect? The Albrecht family is prestigious. Of course, they won't pay attention to such meals as noodles. Gillian bit her lower lips in anxiety. Even though she acted as if she were courageous and unfazed, she's still trying to increase her pace in order not to get Butler Leo in trouble. Noodles are one of the easiest and fastest meals to be made, which is why Gillian decided on them. If not, Gillian would have looked for an alternative. Gillian took a step forward and glanced at the chefs and the maid. Although the Albrecht family doesn't eat noodles, Gillian believed that one or a few of the maids would have noodles in their belongings. "Does anyone have two packs of instant noodles? I'll pay for it?." Gillian immediately took out her phone to show her sincerity that she was ready to do a transfer as long as any of the maids spoke up. Two plump maids hurriedly stepped forward. "I've got some noodles in the kitchen. It's fine, miss. You don't have to pay for it." They spoke up. Gillian sighed in relief and flashed them a smile. At first, she was afraid that they'd ignore her because of her reputation. Gillian quickly shook her head. "No. Since I've promised, I'll..." Butler Leo waved his hands. "It's fine, young miss. The Albrecht family will pay for it at the end of the month. However, I'd like to warn you that the young master has a sensitive stomach." Butler Leo conveyed with a firm expression. Gillian knew Butler. Leo was indirectly telling her that Augustus might react badly to her noodles since he hadn't eaten something like that before. Upon hearing Butler Leo's care for Augustus, Gillian smiled reassuringly. "I'll never hurt Augustus." Gillian firmly declared Without waiting for Butler Leo's reply, Gillian turned towards the maid who had brought the noodles. She collected the noodles immediately, but not before flashing the maid an appreciative smile. The maid blushed immediately and quickly retreated. Gillian's lips curled upward. A thought flickered past her mind: the staff in the kitchen seemed to be nice. Gillian strode towards the part of the large kitchen where the apron was hung. She was about to take it when the two chefs hurriedly came forward. Gillian paused and quickly waved her hand, believing that the chef had come forward in order to help her. "It's fine. I don't need any assistance." She stated. "That... Can we check the young Miss's cooking skills?" One of them quickly spoke up with politeness. Although the chefs asked respectively, Gillian knew the chefs planned to observe if her cooking skills would or wouldn't hurt Augustus' stomach. However, her cooking skills had never been lacking to begin with. Gillian nodded with a shrug and immediately got into action. She wore an apron and quickly tied her hair in a bun before putting on a cap. Gillian washed her hands and her cooking utensils before she began. The butler, chefs, and maid at first believed that Gillian's cooking skills might only be average or below average, but within a few seconds, their expression changed and they began to nod silently. The two chefs' gazes were fixated on Gillian intently as if they dared to blink, they would miss important details. Soon, a delicious aroma pervaded the whole kitchen, causing everyone to gulp and their eyes to shine. They all gulped down saliva and stared at the pot intently. Seeing their familiar reactions, Gillian flashed them an apologetic yet firm smile. "This belongs to young master Augustus. Perhaps next time." She stated. The chefs gulped and quickly shook their heads, but one wouldn't fail to catch the trace of envy written in their eyes. The second chef stepped forward and stared at Gillian in curiosity. "Miss Gillian, did you learn to cook?" With Gillian's expert cooking skills, they didn't believe that she didn't learn Gillian shook her head and lowered the heat. A little smile appeared on her face, and she stared into the distance, recalling the beautiful memories. "Before mom had an accident, I've always watched mom cook. During my stay abroad, I had to work in a restaurant as a cook to fend for my education..." Gillian's eyes widened in a fluster, and she suddenly paused as if she had just realized that she had said something that she shouldn't. She quickly waved her hand and donned a calm smile. "I mean, never mind." Gillian hurriedly turned off the gas cooker and began to scoop the noodles onto the prepared plate. A maid gulped and stared at the meal intently. Just the smell of the noodles is enough to take one to cloud nine. The maid felt that she'd regret it if she never got to taste Miss Gillian's cooking skills in her lifetime. "Miss Gillian, can you cook this for us next..." Butler Leo's face turned cold immediately, and he glared at the brazen maid, including the chefs, who were harboring such hope. "So brazen of you. How dare you tell Miss Gillian to cook for you? Don't even think about it..." "It's fine, butler Leo." Gillian interrupted with a calm smile. She had a good thought about the staff in the kitchen. Moreover, all of them are experts at cooking; coming here occasionally will help to improve her cooking skills. After all, after designing, she likes cooking the most. Just like Augustus, her mother also had a sensitive stomach. If she wanted to upgrade her skills, she would have to meet with the chefs for occasional cooking discussions. "When I'm free, I'll." Gillian declared and immediately carried the two bowls of noodles and poached eggs that were placed on the platter out of the kitchen.
