The missing heir

DUNCAN I headed out on the mission to check out my pack. We were only a small team, just myself, Harris and two of our best warriors. The plan was simple. We would cross the border at the north-east of the pack, the cliff there was uneven and hard to patrol. The lighthouse in the north could see any boats trying to land along the whole of the cliff face, and no one would be fool enough to try to enter the pack across the dangerous jagged cliff. Well, no one except us, Harris and I used to sneak out of the pack here all the time, knowing where it was safe. At least we hoped we did. I led the way and we managed to breach the border, without breaking our necks, and made it to the orchard. The Hamilton farm was only about a mile from our position, I thought we were home free. Until I heard whispering coming from our left, fu.ck they were close, walking right between me and my warriors. Harris was hiding behind an apple tree, across from me. I mind-linked my men to move back, quietly, and motioned for Harris to stay put. The warriors were discussing a she-wolf, "I tell you, got my hand right up her skirt, nearly dropped the plates she was carrying, grabbed her perfect as.s. goddess, who needs a mate when you have girls as pretty as Elsie Hamilton, all those curves, fu.ck, I promise you, one day I will have a taste of that peach." Nero growled in my head, "that warrior needs to die." I have to agree, I hate it when men talk about a woman like that. They stop and sniff the air. "Do you smell that? Someone is here, send a mind-link. Harris and I jump out of our hiding places and take the two down, the sound of snapping necks fills the air. We dropped to the ground and listened. All was silent for a minute, then the sound of paws pounding into the ground, thundering towards us. Harris looked at me, "Duncan, you need to get to the Hamilton farm, we will lead them away to the border, stay hidden, they will follow us." I don't like it, but I know how fast my brother is, and he is right, we are so close, I need to see it through, so I roll in the dirt, to mask my scent and crouch behind a large apple tree. Just as the pack wolves come into sight, Harris jumps up, yelling, "THEY ARE COMING, QUICKE GRAB THEIR MONEY AND LETS GO." I watched as my men ran towards the border, all the wolves in pursuit. They passed me by, and I made a run for it, sticking to the edge of the orchard till they were all out of sight. "Good luck little brother, stay safe." I heard him panting through our link, "I will come back to the border tomorrow night to get you out. Meet me at the head of the river, where we used to cross as pups, and don't get caught." I ran as hard as I could, making it to the barn of the Hamilton farm. There were no lights on in the house, but the place looked cared for, very run down, but cared for. I saw a patrol coming up the lane, so I ducked into the barn, and hid in the loft. There was a gap in the wall that gave me a good view of the house. I saw the patrol walk past the barn, and sighed with relief. I sat down on a bale of hay and rested for a moment, trying to make a plan. I didn't even know if the Hamilton's still worked on the farm, but that guard was talking about Elsie, so they were still in the pack. The sound of a horse and cart made me rush back to the gap in the wall. The cart stopped at the house, and I heard voices, but they were too far away. Lamps were lit in the house, no electricity still then. Da was going to get electricity to all the pack's houses. He had been talking about it that night, the night they died. I watched as a man uncoupled the pony from it's cart and led it to the stables across from the house, settled the horse and entered the small shed next to it. After a few minutes, he came out and carried something to the cart, loading it back up for the morning he supposed, so engrossed with the man, he didn't see the second person walking towards the barn, until he heard a female voice swear in pain, and the smash of glass hitting the cobble. Then the barn door opened and a muttered, "stupid cows", then there was silence. Nero stood up in my head, whining, "What is it Nero?" he started leaping around, "Mate is here." I froze at his words, and crept closer to the stairs, and then the smell hit me; freshly baked apple and cinnamon pie. I inhale deeply, and adjust my trousers. Hmmm she smells so good, she is wearing a huge coat, it covers her to almost her ankles. I sneaked down the stairs. About half way down, the cows pushed into the barn, sending her falling onto the stairs. Just below my feet, she swore and pushed herself up. Nero pushed forward and grabbed her, covering her mouth with his hand. Quick as lightning, her head flies back, hitting me right between the eyes, and she tries to run. I grabbed her wrist and pulled her back and she crashed into my chest with a thump. The next thing I know is her knee connecting with my balls, and I go down, hard. I saw her leg pull back ready to kick me, "Elsie, stop please." She squinted down at me, not recognizing me at first, then gasped, "Duncan Danvers?" I gave her my best grin, "Hello Elsie Hamilton, my little mate." Her eyes went wide, "w..wwhat?" She dropped to her knees, and then I saw the blood that had run down her face. Sh.it she can't scent me because of all the blood. I held my hands up to her. "You are my mate Elsie Hamilton, you just can't smell me because of your nose." I smiled at her. I can't see her as well as I would like, it's so dark. But it doesn't stop me pulling her to me and crashing my lips into hers. She gasps, her mouth opening slightly, allowing me to push my tongue in to taste her, fu.ck she tastes like apple pie too. We both moaned at the contact, her hands were on my chest, and then she shoves me, right on my as.s, again! "what the FU.CK do you think you are doing? You can't just come back after being missing for eight years, and just kiss the first girl you see. Are you insane?" Fu.ck she is cute when she is angry. I watched as she lit a few lamps, and I could get a better look at my mate. Wow, she is beautiful, even with the blood on her face and her silky blond hair a mess around her face. Pulling a rag from her pocket, she blew her nose, clearing the blood, then she looked at me and inhaled. Her eyes darkened and I saw her wolf peeking through, "mate," she sighed. She shook her head to clear it, then stared at me again, sadness in her eyes, "You shouldn't be here Duncan, your uncle will kill you." I cupped her cheeks, "I'm sorry it took so long, but we are ready now, we are coming to take back our pack." She leaned into my touch, I closed my eyes as the sparks raced up my arms. Her hands touched my arms, "I have to settle down and feed the animals, then you need to see da, dinner will be ready soon." I nodded and helped her with her chores, and then we walked to the house. I linked our fingers, and pulled her to a stop, turning her towards me. "I am so happy the goddess chose you for me, Elsie, I am just sorry that we had to meet when everything is so up in the air." She smiled at me softly, reaching up she caressed my cheek, I leaned into her caress, placing a kiss on her wrist. "My Da always says that anything worth having is worth working for, so we will have to work hard. Come on, dinner will be ready, we don't have much, but I can make it stretch." We walked through the door, into a little passageway. She motioned for me to stay where I was and walked into the kitchen, "there ya are, lass, thought ya had ran off." I heard a chair being pulled out, "Da we have a guest, and I need you to keep calm, okay?" she leaned out and motioned for me to follow. I entered the kitchen, and looked into the face of one of the kindest men I have ever met. His eyes widened so much I thought he was having a seizure. "Alpha Duncan?" I smiled at my father's friend, "Hello Mr Hamilton, it's good to see you again."
