Cassandra's POV
The smell of freshly cooked bacon filled my nostrils, it forced me to wake up fully. I moaned in comfort as I rolled over. Sleeping in a bed even if it was a hospital bed, was so much better than sleeping on that ratty old couch in the living room.
I peeked an eye open and saw my son, Silas, munching away on some eggs. If he loved anything he loved his eggs. Always had.
The thought that someone other than me, was nice enough to make Silas something to eat made me feel, relaxed. I didn't sleep much while living with George, and being able to sleep without being yelled at was something I haven't felt in the past eleven years.
I closed my eyes again and let myself fall back asleep. The food smelled delicious, but I needed this. I needed this much needed sleep.
**
When I woke up again I noticed the scent of coffee. After this morning I figured the smell would have died off, however it still smelled fresh. My muscles felt like I had been hit by a truck, even my bones hurt. Yet I was still extremely comfortable. I moved the pillow, my hair a whole mess due to half my head being under the pillow and blankets.
I slowly sat up, wincing some, the pain in my ribs hitting me full force. I knew better though, if I cried he would make it hurt more.
I wiped my eyes and opened them. Seeing that I wasn't where I initially thought I was, my heart began to race. Did George knock me out and move me? It wouldn't be the first time he has done that. Only, I was comfortable and clean. If there was blood it was washed away.
I flinched feeling a hand on my shoulder. I dared not to move again, mainly out of fear of being hit once more. My poor body couldn't take another beating let alone a single hit.
I found myself relaxing after a few minutes of complete silence. Normally sitting in the quiet brought fear out of me, not this time though. I slowly turned my neck to glance at the form hand that lay on my shoulder. A tattoo caught my attention first, then the bruised knuckles.
I allowed myself the permission to see who it was that sat beside me. When I met a pair of green eyes I stopped breathing. "Levi" I mumbled his name. He had dark circles under his eyes, like he hadn't slept.
Memories of what happened and why I was here and not at home filled my head. I didn't even have time to ask about Silas before Levi dropped a stick of dynamite in my lap. "Alpha Otis is here" My bottom lip trembled, I prayed they wouldn't tell him.
I wanted to ask him so many questions, yet only one came out of my mouth. "Has he denied having a daughter yet?"
Levis cold eyes softened as he gave me a smile. "If he did, then my parents never said."
"He will" I muttered and closed my eyes. "He always does." When I opened my eyes again I noticed his cold eyes exterior was back. But upon closer inspection I saw he was linking somebody.
I always wondered what it was like to mind-link. I wasn't given that ability due to me not having a wolf of my own. However I did have very good eyesight, but horrible hearing, those weren't two combinations one would ask for. Even humans, I'm sure, had better chances at hearing than I did. My mom and dad were told when. I was a toddler that I needed hearing aids, but dad refused to get me any. So if I can't hear someone l, I read their lips to understand better.
I sat there patiently waiting for him to finish his talk. The cup of coffee in his hand, smelled delicious. It made my belly growl with hunger.
My sudden fear of my father began to kick in the longer Levi sat there talking to someone. He was good at manipulating people to do whatever he wants, and I'm sure if he and I were alone right now. He would force me to return back to the pack with him. I love my dad, but I've been under the rule of a narcissist my whole life. I didn't want to return to that now that I was free, George's death was just collateral damage.
"Cassandra?"
"Hmm" I hummed to the person that called out my name. I was busy thinking of how to get myself and my son out of here and into the human world, where dad couldn't find me. I didn't want Silas to grow up with humans, but I fear it's what I have to do now. No pack will take in a murderer.
When sparks and tingles clover my upper arm, my gaze falls down to it. I followed the hand on my arm, and up his own arm until I found Levi's breathtaking smile.
"Otis wants to see you?"
"Do I have to see him? I prefer not to." I told him softly.
"I understand that, but my mother gave me an order and I must follow through with it." Levi reached down by his chair and brought up a small bag. "My sister Bailey looks about your size, so I asked her for a few things." he placed the bag on the bed beside me.
He pointed behind him with his thumb and said, "The bathroom is there, why don't you go shower and I'll get you something to eat!" he stated and stood up. "Because you have no wolf, I have to ask...are you allergic to anything."
I shook my head. "Just cats"
He gave me a small smile and nodded. "God thing there isn't any here."
I found the edges of my lips slowly turn up. Levi was really sweet. I wasn't used to that. His smile grew as he saw the barely there grin I had on my face.
"Where is Si?" I asked him and glanced out the door that was open.
"My sister came by and offered to bring him to her place for a few hours while you spoke to your dad. She has a son, Tyler who is a little younger than Silas." I nodded my head. At least he won't be upset again when he hears dad belittle me this time. He never liked the way he spoke to or about me.
I opened the bag that Levi placed on the bed and took out the shirt. It was red with writing on the front. It was also a couple sizes bigger than me. If only he knew what I looked like without clothes. I was basically skin and bones.
"why don't you go and shower, mom brought some things so you can wash last night while you were asleep." he coked his head to the side. "Do you normally sleep for two days straight?"
I shook my head. I never got much sleep back at home. I had to watch my own back constantly when he decided to drink, because George would wake me up just so he had someone to either yell at, or hit.
I didn't want to explain why I never slept properly and just got up from the bed, slowly though as I remembered my ribs were still very sore. He placed his hand on my lower back when I was standing, then stood up. He guided me over to the bathroom and stopped just at the entrance. I opened the door and flipped the light switch.
"Can you tell your mom and sister I said thank you?" I turned around and faced him. He smiled that charming smile and nodded his head. I nodded also and shut the door then locked it.
