“How many Acai bowls do you think I can eat before I get sick of it?” Alexa asked as she turned to me, fourth bowl of the famous healthy Brazilian dessert in hand.
It was ten in the evening and after dinner and walking around the streets to get back to our hotel, Alexa and I decided to have some time for just the two of us equipped with our face masks and pajamas - just like the old days back at home.
“Hm…” I pursed my lips in thought before taking another bite of my dessert which was a coconut ball of some sort. “I would say we could eat fifty more and still not get sick of it.”
Alexa and I looked at each other with suspicious looks before bursting out into laughter on bed and taking another bite.
“You’re right, you’re right.” “Food is amazing.”
We both agreed that we would probably gain ten pounds during this trip and promised to just exercise when we get back. Our guilty feelings got tucked away as we cozied on the bed and put on a random Brazilian horror movie on the television.
“I can’t believe we’re on the other side of the world and you still want to watch horror.” My best friend turned to me with a judging look and I shrugged my shoulders at her.
“That’s exactly the reason why we should be watching. Brazilian horror could be a hidden gem for all we know!” I exclaimed rather exaggerated, putting my hands up to prove a point and Alexa just rolled her eyes at me.
“That would make sense if we could actually understand what they’re saying!” She told me, shaking her head unamused.
“A, just tell me you want to hang out with your boy and I’ll let you go.” I grabbed a pillow and began to fake cuddle with it, teasing Alexa that it was her and Aiden.
“Oh, shut up!” She shouted at me before hitting me with a pillow and I knew I had to retaliate.
I placed my beijinho de coco on the bedside table before grabbing another pillow and the second Alexa knew I was going to get my revenge, she raised her Acai bowl up her in order for me not to hit it.
“Hey! Not while I’m eating!” She pouted at me.
“You started it!” I told her and it didn’t take long for the two of us to end up getting pillows and began throwing it at one another.
I got up on top of the bed and armed with the very fluffy and also most likely expensive cotton pillows, started to hit Alexa with it. She stumbled on her back on my first hit and looked at me with a shocked face before grabbing her own pillow and hitting me on my legs, making me tumble backwards.
We couldn’t stop laughing and in a few minutes we were both so tired, gasping as we flopped onto the bed and feathers from the pillow scattered all over the bedroom and some were still flying above us.
“Seriously though. You and Aiden, huh?” I told her slightly out of breath after our impromptu pillow fight as we stared at the ceiling, catching some of the feathers falling down on us.
“Seriously.” Alexa replied with a soft and lighthearted chuckle.
I didn’t need to turn and look at her to know that she was grinning from ear to ear at the mention of Aiden but when I did, I was right as she was practically blushing the second we both took our face masks off.
I exhaled deeply before placing the side of my face on my palm and my elbow on the bed as I stared intently at my very blushing best friend.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get over this even on your wedding day.” I told her honestly, imagining my very best friend and my childhood crush walking down the aisle.
Alexa looked at me as if I had grown another head out of nowhere. “My wedding?! You’ve gone delusional from too many sweets. If anything, it would be the infamous Theo and Luna.” She raised her eyebrow at me.
“What? Infamous?” I asked her before turning down the volume of the horror movie still playing on the television neither of us was watching.
“I told you! Don’t you remember when we were on video call on my first day in college?” Alexa got off of bed to get her food again while I stayed in bed, trying to find what she was talking about in my memories.
“Ah! You mean when people came up to you asking about m-”
“Yup, you and Donovan - the fated couple.” She answered before I could finish my sentence and sat back in bed.
“I swear nobody would shut up about the two of you. If you were so popular in New York, I can only imagine what it was like back at home.” She turned to me with that look I knew all too well and it was her begging for me to spill.
I sighed before moving to sit next to her by the bed’s headboard knowing I didn’t have a choice. Back then, I didn’t really tell her about what it was like being with Theo in college. It must have crossed my mind especially when we both got too busy for calls sometimes.
“Well… we’ve had our ups and downs. The worst were girls constantly flirting with him trying to check if they could make him you know… un-fall in love with me.” I confessed to Alexa before getting goosebumps at just the thought of it.
I remember it all too well. It was barely even considered the first day as we were just fixing our dorms and Theo was of course helping me bring up some of my things.
Flashback
“Think fast!”
“Eep!” I squealed as I turned around and raised my hands towards me, my eyes slightly closing when my fluffy pillow fortunately landed right in my hold.
“How many times do I have to say stop playing?” I shot Theo a death glare and he gave me one of those too cute to resist grins of his.
“Not fair. No using those to get away.” I squinted my eyes at him, pretending to be angry but it didn’t last long as he walked over to me and in an instant had already embraced me from behind.
“Getting away from what? I would never in a million years wish to be away from…” I felt him lower his head onto my neck and goosebumps traveled all over my body the second his warm lips touched my skin.
“My beautiful…” I moaned softly and my eyes closed as I tilted my head backwards, closer to him and his kisses went lower.
“Girlfriend.” My eyes shot open when Theo suddenly turned me around to face him and our eyes locked onto one another.
I could never get used to those gray eyes of his. They were always so enchanting, entrancing me as if bringing me to a whole other dimension. I could feel his hands on my waist gently caressing and somewhat luring me closer to him.
“I want to kiss you.” He whispered before licking his lips and his eyes glancing at mine.
“Do it.” I told him in a split second.
A pleased smirk formed on Theo’s lips as one of his hands moved up to get a hold of my face and he began to lean closer to me, our eyes closing to feel each other’s lips aga-
“Hello?” A loud knock on the door and a shout from the other side caused the two of us to pull away from each other, our cheeks slightly blushing from the surprise.
And then we looked at each other and slightly snickered, making sure not to create too much noise as both of us wanted to pretend nobody was in the room.
“Hello? Is Theo Donovan there?” The woman’s voice spoke up again and I tilted my head in confusion, wondering why she was asking for my boyfriend when this was clearly the girl’s dorm.
I looked at Theo suspiciously as if to ask if he knew who it was and he just shrugged his shoulders very uninterested.
“I know someone’s in there! I can see the shadow from underneath the door!”
Both Theo and I immediately looked down and realized our mistake was standing right beside the window where the sun was shining, causing our shadows to be seen. That was when we both concluded that we had nowhere else to go.
“Why me? It’s your dorm.” Theo said in a low voice as he looked at me with confused eyes.
“You go. She asked for you.” I whispered to him while pointing my head at the door.
Theo was not the type to follow other’s orders. Almost all of his life growing up he would say no even to the teachers back in high school, but somehow he never said that to me. Not even once.
He let out an unamused sigh before walking over to the door. He cleared his throat before finally opening it.
The door opened and three girls almost fell right into my room as they seemed to be snooping with their ears on the door. I had to stop myself from laughing out loud. I instead scanned mine and Theo’s intruders, and immediately guessed who it was.
Stacy, Tracy, and well, you guessed it, Macy. I wasn’t even sure if those were their real names but it’s what everyone called them around here. Stacy is the daughter of two famous celebrities so everyone likes to suck up to her.
Why am I not surprised that the popular girls in the freshmen year were already trying to hit on my boyfriend? Her other two friends or more like her posse stood beside her like her poodle dogs. The three of them almost dressed up the same if not for the obvious attempt to make the most popular one stand out more.
When you think you were done with hierarchies once you graduated high school, think again.
“So? Are you going to talk or just stare?” Theo said in a tone I have only ever heard him use to other people and when he was clearly not in the mood.
“Oh!” The lady in the middle aka Stacy, let out the fakest laugh trying to be cute as she intentionally brushed her hand against Theo’s chest in which he immediately moved away from and gave her a glare.
“Um… we were just wondering if a manly and sexy man like you could help us with our faucet problem.” Stacy spoke in the most ridiculous Californian accent as she played with the tip of her hair and I almost felt embarrassed for her.
For a second I remembered Emily and how she desperately wanted Aiden even going as far as forcing him to pretend they were in a relationship and then trying to harm me when she didn’t get what she wanted. I shuddered at the thought of it, but I did genuinely hope she was getting the help and care she needed.
“No,” was literally all Theo said before slamming the door on their faces and turning back towards me.
“Wha-” My mouth hung open as I watched him walk back to me completely unbothered.
“Theo…” I said slowly in which he turned to me with a confused look, obviously that he had no idea the gravity of what he just did because it seems that to him it didn’t matter at all.
“What?” He looked at me confused and I couldn’t help but chuckle at how innocently adorable he looked.
“You should help them.” I told him with a small smile and he raised an eyebrow at me.
“Valentine… They were clearly trying to flirt with me.” Theo told me before walking closer. “And besides-” He took my hand and intertwined it with his, immediately sending tingles down my spine. “I would rather be with my girl.” He said before biting his lip and looking at me with a hidden agenda.
As tempting as my boyfriend was, I couldn’t have him just slamming doors on other girls because it would make him rude and that was exactly the reputation of his I’ve been trying hard to demolish.
I heartbreakingly pulled my hand away from him and he pouted at me. “Really, babe?”
“Come on. I need a faucet too. You can just go back if it really isn’t broken.” I reassured him with a smile and after one quick kiss on the cheek, he opened the door again and grudgingly followed the once again excited ladies.
About twenty minutes had passed since he left my dorm and I managed to fix my bed. I then began to worry that he was taking a little too long fixing one faucet. The thing is, it wasn’t that I didn’t trust him. It was that I did trust him to be on his best behavior that the girls might be taking advantage of him.
I hurriedly got out of my room and walked over to where the ladies bathroom was and when I opened the door, I thought I was going to have a heart attack at the first sight of it.
Theo was kneeling down underneath the sink, his face seemed to have gotten dirty as there were some black marks on the side of his cheek, but what really got me surprised was that he was completely shirtless. The other one was the fact that Stacy was just in her underwear… a very hot pink one.
“Uh…” I stood by the door, trying my best to not look as surprised even though my heart was literally beating a hundred per minute or more.
“Oh, hey babe.” Theo casually glanced at me, saying a quick greeting as he made use of the wrench in his hand to wave before going back to what he was doing.
“This is the last one. I just have to tighten it then we’re golden.” He said as he used the back of his hand to wipe his cheek causing the black mark on his face to spread out even more. I don’t think he knew his face was dirty nor that there was a half naked lady behind him.
What the heck is actually going on?
I turned my focus to Stacy and she looked at me with an annoyed expression and arms crossed on her chest.
“Can’t you see we’re busy?” She said displeased as she pulled something from behind her and I realized it was Theo’s black shirt, flaunting it like it was some prize.
“Uh… I don’t think-” I was about to respond when Theo clapped his hands together and stood up from underneath the sink.
“Alright! I think I’ve done it now.” He said happily before testing out the faucet and a pleased smile formed on his lips when water came out. “I knew those online plumbing games would come in handy.” He said proudly before turning to me, eyes lighting up the second he saw me.
“Are you proud?” He asked in an upbeat tone but I was so confused that all I could do was glance back between my shirtless boyfriend and a half naked Stacy.
“Valentine?” He looked at me with furrowed brows, probably confused as to why I was just staring at him blankly until he turned around and realized what it was that got me so speechless.
“What the f**k?” He said outright shocked as well before stepping backwards further away from Stacy and closer to me.
“Why the hell are you naked and why do you have my shirt that got wet?!” The tone on Theo’s voice was confused and completely irritated at the same time.
“Wh- what do you mean? We were- we were having fun before she came in!” Stacy blurted out obvious lies as she tried to flirt with Theo using her body.
I wasn’t going to lie. Stacy is an attractive lady. She is after all the daughter of two celebrities. She might have had some things done to her face, but I’m sure her natural beauty was already good. Her pointy nose and pouty lips mixed with her glacier blue eyes and perfectly soft platinum blonde hair. She could have anyone she wanted, but I will never understand why these girls chose to make a fool out of themselves by flirting with someone who was clearly already taken.
“Listen here, lady.” Theo spoke up, the words coming out of his mouth like venom and even I slightly got goosebumps at the tone he used.
“I don’t know what game you’re playing at, but I don’t want to be a part of any of it. I have a girlfriend and even if I didn’t-” He paused, letting out an exasperated sigh. “I still wouldn’t date you.”
If Theo was holding a mic, right now would be the perfect time to drop it, but because he didn’t, I think it was just Stacy’s pride that dropped to the floor and got smashed into very tiny pieces. The once confident expression on her face immediately changed to embarrassment as her face began to turn red.
“Let’s get out of here.” Theo turned to me and took a hold of my hand, but stopped to turn back.
He looked her straight in the eye, voice stern and unwavering.
“Keep the shirt. I don’t want any of your germs.”
Present
“Oh my god, get out! Theo said all of that?” Alexa’s eyes widened in shock and I nodded my head as I chugged a glass of water after telling her the story.
“Tell me more! Tell me more!” She eagerly asked, shaking my arm in excitement and I pulled myself away as I started to get dizzy.
“Why? It’s just the same popular, blonde, and wealthy girls that’s trying to steal my boyfriend.” I told Alexa and she raised her eyebrow at me and I realized it was exactly that reason that she wanted to know more.
“Fair enough.” I said before we both laughed and got cozy on the bed.
We placed pillows all around us and put a blanket on top creating a fort and checked the time - a quarter to midnight. I guess we had some time for a few more stories and then we needed to sleep because tomorrow was another big day also known as, we’re going shopping.
“Alright!” I put my hands together and Alexa looked at me wide eyed in sheer excitement.
“This one’s about the girl that tried to pretend she was me to make out with Theo…” I started off the story and even I still couldn’t believe it happened.
“Holy crap, and I thought New York girls were wild. Talk about conniving witches.” Alexa said with a gasp.
“Trust me, you haven’t even heard half of it.” I chuckled remembering how crazy it was in just my first year with Theo.
“Oh I’m ready to hear all of it.”
