Chapter 8

1033 Words
Diane POV "Why have you sent me an invitation? I asked, feeling a hot  rush of anger from within me.  Did I just get tricked?. " Because you need a job," he replied. "How do you know I need a job?". " Because you just admitted to that" He replied with a smile, I got trapped by how handsome when he smiled and forgot myself for a second. Did I just get played? I couldn't keep the thought out of my head. "Well, thanks for the offer but I'm not interested" I said and stood immediately. "Why?" He asked with a slight shocked look on his face. "I will pay you more than you were earning at your previous job" He offered and I lost total interest in working for him. "No sir, keep your money to yourself I don't want". I walked out of the office with instant regret, he was just a waste of my time. I would have spent the day looking for a real job instead of responding to a job I didn't apply for. I got home and resumed searching for suitable jobs and I lost track of time until Rhea opened the door, she had knocked a couple of times before coming inside. "I'm sorry I had my ear pods on" I apologized quietly before she murders me with looks. "Why would you have them on with the highest volume, do you know how dangerous that is?" She asked, still a little annoyed. "I didn't mean to, I lost track of time" She was about to start lecturing me on the harms like she always does. "Well, I'm here for the gist about your new job" She said excitedly  after settling beside me on the couch. "Which job?" I asked,  confused. "The one that you went for ofcourse Diane!" She replied pouting. "Oh, I did not get offered the job" I replied not wanting to elaborate much on it but that would be hard because she won't leave without the whole gossip. "What do you mean?" " You were sent an invite, which means you have been given the job already. Did something happen?" "Nothing happened" I just decided not to work there" I said frowning involuntarily while remembering the weird interaction I had with Mr jeremy. I had no idea why he wanted to employ me, why was he offering to pay me higher than I was currently earning?. Is he trying to use me to get to Michael?. Did something happen?. I was lost in thought until Rhea yelled my name. "What the hell is wrong with you?" She asked, concerned. "Nothing, it's just.. " It's just what?" She asked, giving me a confused look. "It's just the job invitation is weird and I think something else is going on beneath it" I said slowly and I sound like a crazy person to her. "I don't understand what you are talking about" she said feeling lost. "Okay let me explain to you". After narrating everything to her and what I'm thinking about she came to a strange conclusion and I couldn't help bursting out in a loud laugh. " It is not funny, he might really like you," she said again with a serious expression. "Why did you come to that conclusion?" I asked. "There is no way he would like me, there are tons of girls that would be stepping on themselves to get his attention, why would he want me?." I asked while I couldn't still stop laughing. "You are just trying to deny the idea but I'm just telling the truth" she continued trying to persuade me. "Enough with the assumptions, I'm hungry". I ended the absurd conversation but still couldn't get the little tingling feeling at the pit of my stomach, what if what she said was true. ~ Jeremy couldn't believe his eyes as she walked out on him after bluntly rejecting his offer, he felt the pain deep in his heart. He wasn't expecting it and wasn't surprised, he knew getting her to his side  won't be easy. He would have to keep trying, her elegant face keep appearing in his mind. She looks as beautiful as the day they met for lunch over a short business deal but something seems different about her. "How did your plan go?" Gregg asked after sitting down. He had decided to come because he felt remorseful for the way he talked to Jeremy in the morning. "Why do you want to know?" Jeremy's face had turned gloomy since Diane turned him down. "I just want to know," Gregg shrugged. "You don't need to" Jeremy refused to share the embarrassing result with him. "You need to tell me, because your face right now isn't pleasing to look at which means you failed woefully at wooing her" Gregg hit the nail on the head and threw back his head as he laughed in a jesting way. "If you had listened when I called you it wouldn't have gone bad" Jeremy said as he decided to blame Gregg for his failure. "But I was ready to listen, and you decided not to tell me anything again. I was pissed you disturbed my sleep" Gregg replied still finding it hard to stop laughing. "You know you have no choice but to tell me, so do tell and let me know why you failed" Gregg switches to seriousness. He felt pity for his friend who is successful at everything but romantic relationships. "I asked Christopher to make some findings about her last night and I found out she has quit her job, so I sent her a job invitation with a high pay but she refused" Jeremy grumpily explained what happened. "Oh my God!" "Dude!, why would you do all that and you expect her to take you seriously?" Gregg asked with disbelief. This was way out of what he had expected. " What did she actually say?" Gregg asked for further understanding of the problem. "I can't remember" Jeremy lied smoothly, uttering what she said word for word will only elevate his pain. "Okay, it's fine. This is what you need do" Gregg suggests a solution.
