Something was bothering Alec. He’d marched out of Mira’s room earlier in the day, making it obvious that he was upset. But not prepared to say anything, in his repressed, Alec-like way.
Lew pondered it all day, along with all the other things he was worried about. He had stayed with Mira until Tally came back mid-afternoon, spruced, suited, and booted for his evening performance at The Bugle. Mira had mostly slept. Once or twice she’d turned her head sleepily and smiled at him and once she’d murmured “Tally?” in her sleep and Lew’d replied, “He’ll be back soon. Just went to change,” before her eyes had drifted closed again.
