Emma returned to her family's mansion and decided not to dwell on what happened today between her and Matías. After all, it's not worth suffering for someone who has never valued her and has always despised her.
Feeling a little more motivated by her party tomorrow, she took the dress she bought out of its cover and laid it on her bed to admire it, imagining the surprised faces of all those who despised and humiliated her while she was part of the White family.
The next day, Emma woke up early. She decided to visit a spa she particularly enjoys, as the day would be somewhat hectic with party preparations. The last thing she wanted was to feel stressed. It had been a long time since she had allowed herself some time to relax and pamper herself. These past two years, she had invested her life and time in someone who never gave her a second thought. Now it was time to start dedicating all the necessary time to herself. She planned to have a good and relaxing time, so she packed her dress, shoes, and accessories for the party into her car, aiming to arrive ready for the event.
Emma got into her car and headed towards the spa.
She spent the entire day there, enjoying the tranquility she needed to clear her mind. Although she had carefully planned everything for her presentation tonight, she knew that any setback could come her way, and she wanted to remain composed. Having a good day could make a difference in her mood. As a masseuse worked on her back, she felt all the tension slowly easing out of her body.
The day passed, and the time to return home for the party approached. At the spa, a stylist had fixed her hair, and a makeup artist had perfected her look, ensuring she would be ready for tonight.
"Ready, we're done," the makeup artist says as she finishes applying the last product to Emma's face.
Emma looks in the mirror and smiles at the final result.
"I love it. You did a great job," she says, admiring herself in the mirror. Her red lips stand out, giving her an imposing look. The makeup and hairstyle are perfect. Emma smiles and then moves to where her things are to finish preparing for the party.
With the help of an employee, she puts on her red dress, which makes her look fabulous and sexy. The dress features a V-cut neckline in both the front and back, revealing her back and a hint of her breasts.
Feeling satisfied, she gathers her belongings with the help of an employee, puts them in the trunk of her car, and, after paying and tipping, heads back to her family's mansion.
Emma arrives and parks her car in one of the exclusive family parking spots. The guest parking is located in a separate area, and her family only allows select VIP guests to park in this area.
She walks around, observing the guests as they move toward the house. At one point, she pauses to watch the crowd and wonders if she will have enough courage to face the man she has loved for so long.
"He's either deciding whether to go in or just enjoying the surroundings," a man’s voice says. Emma turns to see the handsome man beside her, someone she never expected to see here.
"You!" she exclaims, surprised to see him.
"I'm glad you remember me, especially looking as beautiful as you do now," Aaron says, visibly attracted to her.
"Of course I remember you. I could never forget the person who helped me," she replies with a smile.
"Are you going in, or are you just enjoying the fresh air before heading inside?"
"I'm going in, but I'd like to stay out here a bit longer and breathe some fresh air. After all, inside will be a sweltering atmosphere full of pride and pretentious people."
"Don't you like this kind of party?"
"It's not that I don't like them. It's just that the people there only talk about money and property. They compete to see who is richer and more powerful."
"I understand. How about I keep you company for a moment before I join the zoo?" Aaron says with a smile, making her catch her breath.
"Of course, why not," she replies, though she can't help but feel a pang of regret that he is her ex-husband’s uncle.
The two of them walk through the garden, admiring the beautiful lights installed around the area.
“Do you have any connection to Matías White?” Aaron asks suddenly, and Emma looks at him, surprised.
“Why do you ask?”
“I’ve seen you around him several times and I’m curious about your relationship with him and his family.” Emma feels cornered and debates whether to reveal her connection to the White family.
“I was once close to them, but we no longer have any relationship. The only thing that remains is that we used to be close,” she says, avoiding the fact that she was married to Matías.
“I understand. Let’s go inside,” Aaron says, extending his hand. Emma hesitates for a moment but decides to follow her instincts and takes his hand as they head into the party together.
They walk toward the entrance, and in the distance, Emma spots Matías at the party, accompanied by his mother and Silvia, who is wearing a blue dress.
Emma and Aaron walk arm in arm through the room, drawing the attention of everyone present.
“I wonder why they’re staring at us so much,” she says, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.
“Maybe it’s because you’re so beautiful, and you make everything else here seem to pale in comparison.”
“You flatter me, but I think you’re exaggerating.”
“I don’t think so,” he says, looking her straight in the eyes. They get lost in each other’s gaze, momentarily forgetting that they are surrounded by people who are watching them.
“What are you two doing together?” they hear someone say. They both turn to see who has spoken.
“Sofia, it’s good to see you,” Aaron says, ignoring her question.
“Aaron, what are you doing with this woman?” Sofia, Matías’s mother, asks with contempt, glancing at Emma. Matías stands next to her, holding Silvia’s arm.
“Who I’m with is none of your concern,” Aaron replies sharply. His tone makes Sofia hesitate; despite his youth, Aaron has never been intimidated or controlled by anyone, even though Sofia and her spouse practically raised him.
“I don’t understand why you’re speaking to me like that when I’m practically like your mother.”
“You’re not my mother. You’re just my sister-in-law, the one who sent me to several boarding schools and tried to control my life to take over everything that’s mine. But I was smarter than you gave me credit for.”
“Aaron, this isn’t the place for such discussions,” Sofia says, glancing around.
“Then stop acting like you can dictate what I can or cannot do.”
“This is for your own good. This woman is a social climber and a poor devil,” Sofia says, and Emma’s face flushes with anger.
“What did you say?” Emma demands, offended.
“You know very well that you’re an opportunist, so don’t try to play the innocent.”
At that moment, Cristian, Emma’s brother, arrives.
“Mrs. White, I must ask you to control yourself, or I’ll have to ask you to leave the party,” Cristian says, having overheard part of the conversation.
“What are you saying? Perhaps this woman has enchanted him,” Sofia complains.
“Mom, please calm down,” Matías says, somewhat embarrassed by the situation. “Mr. Taylor, please excuse my mother.”
“I hope they behave and stop offending my brother,” Emma says, taking Cristian’s hand.
“Cristian, I’m not feeling well and would like to go somewhere else.”
“Of course,” Cristian replies, and they leave the room together.
Aaron watches as Emma and Cristian exit.
