A few days have passed since Emma separated from her ex-husband. Now, she has almost completely recovered, and her arm can be moved without any inconvenience. Everything that has happened has been very hard for her, and the only thing she wants is to forget and leave behind her past life with Matías. At this moment, she is in her room looking at a magazine when her sister enters.
"What do you say if we go shopping?" her sister Elaine asks her.
"Shopping?" Emma replies.
"Yes."
"I don't feel up to shopping today."
"I don't care if you're in the mood or not. I want you to join me to buy the dress for tomorrow's party, and you can take advantage of it to buy your dress too. Remember that you are the hostess."
"I know, but—"
"But nothing. You’re coming with me, and that’s it." Elaine says, taking her arm and pulling her out of her room.
The two of them make their way down the stairs as Emma tries to avoid going out and shopping with her sister. Elaine continues to insist that she wants Emma to come with her.
"Elaine, I really don't want to go," Emma says as they walk toward the exit.
"Shut up and walk," Elaine replies firmly, taking her sister by the arm.
"What's going on with you two?" Cristian, their brother, asks as he arrives and sees them heading out.
"I just want to take my little sister shopping so we can get our outfits for tomorrow, but she’s reluctant to go out."
"Emma, I think it would be great if you went with Elaine and bought yourself a nice dress for tomorrow."
"I'm not in the mood to go shopping."
"I think you should get yourself a beautiful dress, as Elaine suggests. Remember, your ex will be at the party, and one of our goals is to make him regret the way he treated you."
"Okay, I can’t fight you two. Let's leave before I regret it," Emma says to her sister, and the two leave the mansion heading for the shopping mall where the best luxury brands in the country are located.
Once they arrive, they begin to tour the store. Elaine is delighted, looking at everything and buying almost everything she likes, while Emma just looks and doesn’t buy anything. Eventually, in one of the mall’s stores, she spots a beautiful blue dress that she likes.
"I think I’ve finally found something I want to buy."
"I really want to see it," her sister says.
They reach the dress, but when Emma grabs it, another woman holds onto it as well.
"Excuse me, but this dress is mine," the woman says. Emma looks to see who is trying to take the same dress she has chosen.
“What do you say?” Silvia says, looking at Emma. Emma is shocked to see Silvia, the woman who is now with her ex and who had the audacity to get involved with her spouse.
"I said this dress is mine, didn’t you hear?" Emma insists loudly.
"If I heard you, how could I not hear your horrible voice?" Silvia retorts.
"Are you making fun of me?" Silvia grips the dress tightly and pulls it, but Emma resists.
"If I’m making fun of you, what will you do?" Emma challenges.
"You’re a damn slut!" Silvia yells angrily.
"Who says so? Maybe you! The woman who slept with my husband—the slut here is you," Emma says loudly, and the onlookers start to stare.
"He left you for me. You weren’t enough for him," Silvia mocks, pulling on the dress again. Emma decides to let go, and Silvia almost falls to the floor. However, Matías' mother, who had just arrived from the bathroom, catches her.
"Emma, is she crazy?!" Matías' mother shouts angrily.
"You two, don’t you know who you’re dealing with?" Elaine says arrogantly, and Emma takes her arm, giving her a look to keep quiet.
"If you want that dress, take it. Let’s end this scene. After all, it’s not a dress for women like me but for someone like you," Emma says.
"You’re stupid!" Silvia exclaims as she lunges to slap Emma, but strong hands grab Silvia’s wrists, stopping her.
"What’s going on here?" the man says, and everyone turns to look at him in surprise. Matías and Emma’s mother are particularly shocked when they see him.
"Let me go!" Silvia demands furiously.
“Aaron, what a surprise to see you here,” Matías’ mother says nervously.
"I feel the same, Sofia. I didn’t expect to see you in a scene like this in a public place," Aaron replies.
"It’s not what you think," Sofia says nervously. Emma is stunned to see her ex-mother-in-law trembling in the presence of Aaron, who seems to have some influence over her.
"It’s too late. We need to go. Come on, Silvia," Aaron says, taking her hand, and they leave.
"Are you all right?" Aaron asks Emma, focusing on her. Emma only stares at his beautiful gray eyes and remembers how he had helped her after her accident.
"If I’m fine, thank you," she says somewhat dazed.
"I’m glad you’re okay," Aaron says, examining the arm where she had been injured.
"I didn’t think we’d see each other again," Aaron says with a smile.
"I didn’t think so either, but life is full of surprises."
"That’s right."
"Emma, who is he?" her sister Elaine asks.
"Oh, sorry, I haven’t introduced you. This is my sister Elaine, and he’s..."
"Aaron," he interjects, since he had never told her his name.
"He was the one who helped me when I injured my arm."
"It’s a pleasure to meet you," Elaine says.
"The pleasure is mine," Aaron replies, and there’s a moment of silence. Elaine then speaks to break it.
"Emma, we need to keep looking for another dress that you like."
"I’d like to invite you to get in touch sometime," Aaron tells Emma, ignoring Elaine.
"Of course," he says, signaling to a man a few meters away.
"Do you need anything, Mr. White?" the man asks as he approaches.
"Give the lady a card with my number," Aaron replies. The man hands Emma a card.
"Thank you," she says, putting the card in her bag.
"See you later," Aaron says, and he leaves, leaving Emma and her sister behind.
"That man is handsome and enigmatic," Elaine remarks.
"Yes, he is."
"Apparently, he’s someone influential. Your ex-mother-in-law was terrified to see him."
Emma looks at her sister, thoughtful about what she has just said. She had never seen Sofia feel self-conscious about anyone, only when Matías mentioned his uncle who lives abroad. Emma ponders this as they walk toward a store nearby.
As they walk, Emma suddenly stops. She opens her bag and takes out the card that Aaron’s assistant gave her.
"Aaron White," she reads, and at that moment, she can’t believe what’s happening.
"What’s wrong?" Elaine asks, noticing Emma’s surprise.
"I’m completely stunned."
"Why?"
"That handsome man is my ex-husband's uncle."
"What are you saying? But he looks quite young."
"He is. He’s only a few years older than my ex."
"I imagine he must have a beautiful spouse."
"As far as I know, he’s single."
"Really! Sister, if he weren’t your ex’s uncle, I’d tell you to go for him. Imagine, you’d be your ex’s aunt! Hahaha," Elaine says, laughing at the idea.
"The idea doesn’t sound too bad," Emma replies, and the two enter the store, continuing their search for the perfect dress for tomorrow's party.
