Jakob’s pov
While we were on our way home I kept a close eye on Alexander and Evander. Anna and Aspen seemed to be ok with them so I wasn’t in full Beta mode but still had my guard up. The boys slept the whole ride back and when we got home and I woke them up they both said, “Oh my goddess is this where you live?” Hardin and I laughed and Hardin said, “yes welcome to green moon.”
I mind-linked Thomas and told him to get 2 rooms ready for some guests and to make sure there were a few pairs of men's pants, shorts, socks, shoes, and shirts in each room. Uncle Clay and Aunt Amanda were outside walking when we pulled up. They walked over to the car and everyone got out including Alexander and Evander. Uncle Clay asked who the young men were and Hardin explained. Aunt Amanda started to cry when she heard what happened to their pack and gave both boys a hug and said,
"come on boys let’s get you some clean clothes and food in your bellies." I said Aunt Amanda I've already linked Thomas and had him get 2 rooms ready with things they will need. She smiled and said, “you are a great Beta, you are always on top of things Jakob” I smiled proudly at her and said thank you, Aunt Amanda.
Thomas was coming down the stairs as we walked in and said, “rooms are ready Jakob.” I told him thank you and asked him to show us which rooms were the boys. They were right across the hall from each other and were on Thomas’s floor in 2 of the spare rooms in the packhouse.
I asked Thomas to have an omega bring up soap, shampoo, rags, towels, deodorant, toothpaste, and 2 toothbrushes. The boys looked at me and Evander said, “thank you so much Beta for doing this for us. We really appreciate it.” I nodded and said it was no problem. I told them someone would be up to bring them the things they need to shower and stuff and once they were showered and dressed to meet me at the bottom of the stairs. They said, “yes Beta” at the same time and I laughed and went upstairs to Hardin’s office.
He had linked me while I was with the boys and said he was calling elder Todd to check out the boys story just to make sure they weren't on the run for any crimes. He hung up the phone and said, "well as of right now we have no reason not to trust them. No crimes for either name and there was a pack that was slaughtered a year ago in Maine but the elders thought there were no survivors." I told him the boys were set up with everything they needed and would be meeting me at the bottom of the stairs once they showered and got dressed.
I asked Hardin what we were going to do with the boys and he said, “I'm not sure yet Jakob” I made a suggestion to Hardin and said why don’t they stay here until we figure something out for them? He hummed for a second like he was thinking and said, “it’s not a bad idea Jak. why don’t you tell them since you thought of it.” I nodded and said ok. I went downstairs and waited for the boys to come down.
Evander’s pov
Taking a hot shower never felt so good. It's been almost a year since Alex and I had one. I stayed in until the water got cold, once I got out I brushed my teeth and moaned at how much better my mouth felt. I found the clothes and shoes the Beta had sent up for me and got dressed. I went into the hall and stood by Alex’s door and waited for him to come out. I linked my brother and said come on Alex I'm starving and I'm sure the Beta is waiting for us. He linked me back and said “I'll be out in a minute.” a few minutes later Alex walked out of the room and we headed downstairs to meet the Beta.
We followed him into the kitchen and sat down at the island. The Alpha’s mom was in the kitchen making us something to eat. When she was finished she sat our plates down in front of us and said, "if you want more just let me know, and I will be happy to make more for you." We said yes ma’am. She walked out of the kitchen and Alex and I looked at our plates.
She made us both 2 big meaty sandwiches with lettuce and tomato. Alex doesn't eat them so he pulled them off his sandwiches. We also had a bunch of celery, carrots, broccoli, and avocado slices. I don't eat avocados so I gave mine to Alex and took his tomatoes. We ate everything the Alpha’s mom made us and we were both full. This pack seemed to be so loving and welcoming and I am thankful we crossed paths with the Alpha today because I don’t know how much longer Alex and I would have lasted without eating a good meal and getting actual rest. Once we finished our food and put our dishes in the sink we found the Beta sitting in the living room area. He asked us to have a seat and said he wanted to tell us something.
Alex linked me and said, “do you think he is going to tell us to leave?” I told him I didn’t know and I hoped not because we have nowhere else to go right now. The Beta said, “boys, the Alpha and I talked and we both think it is best if the two of you stay here for now until we can find a pack for y’all.” Alex and I looked at each other and then back at the Beta and said really? He smiled and said, “yes really. Alpha Hardin and I wouldn’t be able to live with ourselves if anything happened to the two of you if we sent you on your way. So the two of you are temporary green moon members for now.” Alex stood and shook the Beta’s hand and then I shook his hand and said from the bottom of our hearts thank you so much.
He showed us around the packhouse and said we were going to be staying on the Gamma’s floor for now and if we were still here when the townhomes were finished we could have one of the 2 bedrooms. The Beta said, “my name is Jakob so you may call me Beta Jakob or Beta. oh and we will have one of our guards take the 2 of you shopping later to get some things you need.” I broke down and cried. The beta asked me what was wrong and Alex told him about how we haven’t come across any decent packs since we left Maine and the kindness we were being shown by this pack was a blessing.
Beta Jakob said, “boys, let me tell you one thing about green moon and some of it's neighboring packs, we show kindness to those who deserve it and the two of you have been through so much in the past year and are in need of a break so we are here to give you the break you need.” We both said thank you again and we went back to our rooms to rest.
Hardin’s pov
Jakob came back to my office and said, “Hardin we need to talk bro.” I said what’s wrong? He said, “nothing is wrong man but I need to give my opinion on something serious.” I said ok then let me hear what you need to say, Jakob. He said, “those two boys are in need of a pack. They have no one left in their family man, why don’t we just let them stay here? I mean we are the first decent pack they have come across in almost a year. They have thanked me so many times I'm ready to scream but they show they have respect and gratitude and they seem like they are good kids. We could use some new guards and add them to our warrior training and they can take the self-defense class until they are ready to just be warriors.” I thought about it and he was right. Maybe these boys crossed our path for a reason only the moon goddess knew. Maybe she sent them to us.
I said you know what Jakob, I agree bro. They will stay here and become green moons newest warriors and guards. I thought about something and then said Jakob I'm going to make these boys guards of Aspen and Annalynn. He looked at me and smiled and said, “you read my mind man.” I told him to hold off on telling anyone until dinner and we would announce it then. He nodded and left my office.
I went back to our room and saw Aspen sitting on the couch reading a book, I walked up to her and kissed her on the top of the head, and smiled at her. She had come a long way from when we first met. She seemed so much happier and more comfortable being here at green moon even with everything going on with Daphanie and Mikael. That reminded me I needed to go check in with Zeke and Nikkoli and see what was going on with those two. I told Aspen I’d be back in a little while and she looked up from her book and said, “ok baby. I’ll be right here.”
when I walked down the steps I could hear a faint cry coming from Thomas's floor and I knew it was probably Alexander or Evander. I walked down the hall and realized it was coming from the room Alexander was in. I knocked and the crying stopped. He opened the door and bowed. I asked if he was ok and he said, “yes Alpha Hardin I am fine just sitting here thinking.” I told him I heard him crying and asked what was wrong. He said, “I'm sorry Alpha Hardin, I didn't mean to disturb you or anyone else, I just had an emotional breakdown and couldn’t hold it back any longer. I am usually not this emotional, Evander is the emotional twin.” I laughed and said it’s ok Alexander, everyone has moments where they need to break down and get everything out.
I said why don’t you take a walk with me and see a little of the packland? Maybe you can clear your head and breathe. He said, “that sounds good Alpha” we headed out the door and towards the guard post at the gate. Zeke and Nikkoli were standing there talking when I cleared my throat. They both bowed and said, "Alpha." I said relax guys I was just coming to check in on things and see if there was anything I needed to know.
Zeke said, "the only unusual thing that we have noticed was a few nights ago a young girl was walking in the woods to the south, and not long after she went in Mikael took off into the woods too. At first, we thought maybe he was just going for a run but not long after he went in the young girl came running out of the woods crying and Mikael wasn’t too far behind we could tell he was mad about something." I told them thank you and then introduced them to Alexander and said he is going to be staying here for a little while with his twin brother Evander. They said hello and said, "sir we will put their names in the system so no one gives them a hard time." I nodded.
Zeke asked Alexander for their last name and he said, "our last name is Tiffin." Zeke and Nikkoli looked at me and I started laughing. I said he said T.I.F.F.I.N, not Tifton. Alexander looked at me confused and I said our last names are very similar. Mine is Tifton. He said, “oh wow that is weird how we have last names that are similar like that”. I said bye to Zeke and Nikkoli and I showed Alexander around the packland. He said “Alpha Hardin it is beautiful here and I love how you went for a country-style on the buildings and shops. I also love how you incorporated wood and stone into the packhouse." I told him thank you and said I didn’t do it my family did when this pack was built. He asked how long my family had been in this area and I told him as far back as the records show if not longer. We walked for a while and i got to know a little about him and Evander.
